Is 1941 gone?

Yeah, I found this out a few weeks ago at an event at my store to celebrate the new season stuff. I have to say I’m pretty disappointed, as 1941 was one of the only reasons I came back to Coach. However, it really did get frustrating to be told “these 1941 bags won’t go on sale or ever be sent to outlet” towards the beginning of the collection, and then spend full price, only to have the prices slashed in half weeks/months later. This happened regularly enough, that at this point, I refuse to spend full price at Coach, even if they kept the 1941 line around forever. Also, I’m not a huge fan the the Coach New York stuff is costing the same as some of the 1941 stuff did. In my opinion, it’s a step down in quality, and definitely not worth the same price tag

I was going to purchase something from the 1941 line, but with this newfound information along with SAs telling me that they weren't going to go on sale either... Yeah. No way.

You may have some luck at an outlet! Lots of people seem to be finding rogues there, with super nice discounts. I don’t mind buying Coach, but I’m DEFINITELY done spending full price on anything.

I didn't mind paying full price for 1941 items because it was difficult to tell what would sell out and what wouldn't and there were some pieces I simply had to have. 1941 pieces felt special. I'm such a fan of their glove-tanned leather, the linings, and the detail. I'm not willing to pay full price for normal Coach though. I know there will be a discount too soon and too many pieces are made, so it selling out isn't as much a concern.

It's like they used the 1941 line to elevate their brand and increase prices on the NY line. I don't feel they are worth the price. I was at outlet last night and saw a nice bag for outlet but at $495 and 60% off, I felt it was still over priced. When I go out shopping (not as often any more), I rarely find bags of quality. I used to find some nice bags that made their way to Marshalls or TJ Maxx but when I go there now, I see mass produced items of very low quality. I still browse that section if I'm in the store but to find anything I want to buy is rare now.
It is interesting to see how the shopping scene has changed all across the board. Years ago I was a hard core thrift store shopper because I live in an area with lots of thrifts within a radius ranging from small privately owned to huge Salvation Army types. Back then I could score vintage Gucci, YSL, Hermes; mad designer clothing and accessories for pennies. Now all that can be found is mostly junk with the very rare fab find. I used to chase Kate Spade, J Crew, and Talbots costume jewelry because it was so well made. Now it’s hardly worth buying. Things have changed so much. Coach is making me sad with these changes. 1941 seemed to be a sort of game changer and the Rogue a bag of significance, but if those bags are being sent to outlet, what does that say?

Update on the 1941 thing - I was at the coach store tonight (imagine that lol!!!), and my DH asked the SAs in the store about what’s going on with 1941 again. They said that right now, the main focus is on the NY line, to introduce some new bags there, but they actually said some new 1941 products would be released in the next month or so (as in a few new designs). I’ll be interested to see how they look/feel when they come out!!

There is a "runway" section on the Coach website. I wonder if they will build up that collection?
I think the embellished coated canvas items are ghastly; I feel the same way about the LV patches collection.

I’m far from anti-Coach but my love affair is definitely over. I’m keeping what I have but don’t see myself buying any more. I don’t like the direction the company is going. I like classic high quality pieces and that doesn’t seem to be their creative direction.

My issue with Coach is that they do a concept to death. Hologram was unique and amazing—the first time. We’ve had four incarnations already. Four Snoopy releases. Four Disney? More? Endless Rogues, endless dinkys. Endless tea rose. Vintage Coach had its core line in core colors. Most brands do. Coach needs to figure out the correct mix of classic, seasonal and runway if that’s the market segment they want. I’m less concerned about bags going to the outlet until they make an outlet version of full line limited collection.

1941 quality is amazing but the brand needs to commit to something already. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as if they are.

I think the 1941 line brought a lot of people back to Coach - it did for me. I wasn't in to the saffiano leather they had for a while. Wonder what they are going to do but if they don't provide some quality items, we'll be looking elsewhere. I have enough Rogue, Dinky and Edie bags. After a while, you want something with a little different shape/concept. Gonna be shopping my closet.

Couldn't agree more. I've not only been shopping my closet but selling, only keeping those I will use frequently & love. While I may pick up a couple more Rogues if they show up in the winter sale, they have to be slashed (quality is lacking in the last batches, IMO). No more full price (or even close) for me.

What's different with the quality with the new rogues?

JMO but the "suede" exterior pockets seem thinner. I ordered & returned a few Rogues this past summer that had issues with the seams by the zippers pulling to the extent that you could see the tan linen underneath. Also the leathers seemed dryer. When I pull out my older 1941 bags that haven't had anything done to them, the difference in the thickness, structure & suppleness is apparent. Again, JMHO.

I feel completely different about the Rogues now that they are becoming a dime a dozen, going off to the outlets at a really low price, and that Coach has decided they don't matter any more. I guess for me, I find all of it annoying because for so long I wanted a Rogue and you couldn't even get them on any kind of sale whatsoever (except a few exceptions here and there). I finally give up on waiting, pay full price for the purple dark fairytale one because I really wanted it--and then right after that several Rogues went on sale at the SAS, and now they have several at the outlets, including the one I paid full price for. I have two of them, and I am not looking or buying anymore of them. I still like them but do not see them the same way as I did before.

I realize it was mainly bad timing on my part, but at the same time I didn't have any indication they would finally start marking down Rogues. So now I will be much more careful about what I buy and take the risk and wait if I really want a bag.

Bags being sent to the outlets is never a bad thing.
You get a 1941 for far less money.
