Was wondering if any external authenticator is certified by Hermes and went thru an official training in their HQ.
Had a bad experience in the past. Bought from an allegedly reputable store and had the purse even "authenticated" by an allegedly reputable person as well, by sending in the link of the article. Luckily for me, the actual stores are not far away. So I brought it in confidently to purchase the missing lock & key. But to my surprise (and embarrassment) the long-time SA's words were: "This is not our leather. This is not our purse," upon inspection and touching the leather! My heart sank. I could fight for it to be real or accept it. I know SAs are not to determine authenticity but if they are the last set of eyes to inspect it before it reaches the craftsperson and she already rejected it, then I of course opted to return it and get my money back. I figured if I am paying top dollar for a purse, there better be no doubt about its authenticity at all! From then on, I decided to only get items from the actual store. And I am just talking about myself and what I experienced.
Hope though that this gets resolved in the OP's favor. Please update us if Paris reverses its claim. Hope you get back your beautiful purse. Wish you all the best.

Oh, so anyone can be an authenticator then. Thanks for the info.

Anyone can CALL themselves an authenticator. You will note that in this forum we recommend very few. The authenticator the OP used is considered the gold standard and would be unofficially recommended by many Hermès employees. The bag pictured also appears authentic in every way.
I would have to find an old repair form to see what the legal language used is, but I dearly hope the OP is getting somewhere with Hermès HQ.

Hermès does not certify authenticators....it would legitimize the resale market.

OP....any updates?

Thanks for following up QF. No major update yet except one phone call with the After sales personnel today.

She revealed that before she wrote me the email “advising” the bag was not manufactured by Hermès, the bag had already gone through two rounds of examination at Paris HQ. She said it was Hermès’ standard procedure to have a purse in doubt be examined by another artisan.

I tried to make sure that the bag was properly assessed by an artisan, not just anyone from the after sales team. She verbally confirmed that was the case.

After receiving the photos and certificate, and a chat with the store manager, she will organize another round of assessment by Paris HQ. I re-stated the bag’s relative rarity, its proper model name, and emphasized that I would like it to be examined by a senior artisan.

She agreed to help out and I’m back to waiting.

I must admit my heart sank when she said the bag was already examined by more than one person at HQ...

I sincerely hope everything will turn out well for OP.
This is scary news for me and others who prefer to buy preloved H bags for discontinued leathers or any other reasons. All my H bags bought are authenticated preloved bags and still in good condition so I never send any to H spa.

Now this news makes me so worry to send any to H spa in the future. The thoughts of H mistakenly destroying authenticated bags is just too scary!

LOVE & all the best to OP...
Yes, I think this thread has made everyone too frightened to ever send a bag in to H for spa.

I'm so sorry. I'm still following along here and wanted to show support even though I don't have any advice to add.
I hope that a senior artisan sees it and says it's authentic. This has been a nightmare.

From a liability standpoint, I want to to imagine that Hermes tries it’s best to avoid false negatives in its authentication processs. I spoke with my SA about the likelihood of misauthentication (is that even a word) and she asserted that the company is very thorough to avoid being sued for destroying an otherwise authentic bag. OP - so sorry that you are going through this nightmare

Totally agree. If I bought anything preowned/preloved, I won’t take a chance sending it to the spa especially when my only proof of authenticity is the reseller ‘s word and authenticator certificate. Honestly i’d rather Pay the reseller a fee/premium to incur the risk of sending said bag to the spa. This is too stressful even for a reader/observer

This thread is such a fascinating read to me and my heart goes out to the OP. From the photo, your bag is such a beauty. I hope you get her back and the issue get resolved in your favor.
