Bababebi is the gold standard and I trust that she knows more than the artisans at H. Who knows how senior these artisans are? The person that made the bag may already have left the company so having the artisan stamp and year would not help. Who remembers every piece that you've made over the years?

I do believe Bababebi is gold standard as does the largest auction house Christie’s.

Thank you for posting this to remind us how awesome bababebi is! I have turned to her repeatedly to help with vintage bag authentication but this thread is really nerve wracking. I started to panic today. But honestly I do think she knows more than the Hermes artisans. I met some artisans once. I do not want to say how and where but they did not even recognize a Trim as an Hermes bag!

Are you saying that if I arrive at CDG and some random customs person sees my Birkin, they can decide that it is fake and just take it? I'm sorry, but that seems ludicrous to me.
I don't think they will if you are carrying it or it is in your luggage. But if you are bringing it in the box with tags and declaring it, they could.

You are not alone. But right now it’s all a blur/smokes and mirrors - reason #98 why I, for the sake of sanity will rather play the Hermes game, get my bag, sleep well at night and save the universe tales that touch the heart.

I am going to say this and clarify upfront that by no means is this being directed at the OP (I deeply empathize with her) and I don’t know the details of her purchase.

However the reason some of these post seem surreal and a blur is because we have seen authenticators screw up royally, cos truth is they are humans and some are just outright out to scam other. We have also seen people send fake bags to the spa so that they can scam unsuspecting resellers out of a free Birkin on claims that paris said it’s fake, I want my money back. We have also seen sellers collude with authenticators to pass off fakes as real then flipping to make innocent/unsuspecting buyer look like a scam. It’s a mad world out there and anything is possible. If it will cost you your peace of mind, then it’s too darn expensive. More expensive than building a spending profile at H.

+100000 I couldn’t have put it better myself if I tried. This is exactly why I am a huge advocate for Hermes lovers NOT to buy from re-sellers. Because in addition to costing you peace of mind, coming across a fake will also cost you some $10k+ in hard earned cash. Why people still do it, I would never understand. Even though I can understand that the H game is extremely fraustrating (i get it ... it took me 2+ years to get my first bag), carrying a H that is bought from a re-seller will always keep that niggling doubt in my mind that it was produced in a sweat shop in Shenzhen as opposed to a glamorous Hermes factory in Paris. That will be so even if I had a printed certificate from every PF member, stating it is original in their eyes.

Now, I do understand that OPs Kelly is a very rare piece that one simply can not buy in store, but unfortunately as we all know and understand, even vintage and rare handbags can now be found amongst AAA grade copies in the back alleys of Shenzhen. Very much hope Paris is wrong here, but if the 2nd round of authentications in Paris HQ produces the same result, I would think any doubt can be safely eliminated. Fingers crossed for you OP.

first of all, i'm not here to question the authenticity of this hermes bag, the hermes could made a mistake which had happened as others posted their experiences.

second, just want to say the super fakes are so good even 10 years ago, there was a limited edition bag in my hand was copied so well it would passed authentication by just photos or even a slightly careless check in person; and recently i have had some newly made super fakes (in hand inspection) were absolutely like the original ones, the only indications they were fakes were from the accessories they came with and one small detail i could tell they were super fakes. these super fakes were under $1,000 value bags they copied.

so i truly believe for the value of hermes birkin, yeah, they could make fakes so good even in person an expert couldn't tell, i would just buy it from the store pay the full price even if i had to wait for 2 years on the waiting list or buy it for half price from individual and never send it to the store for spa or whatever.

I think Hermes needs to explain to OP why they claim the bag is fake, to a certain degree that won't give clues to fakers, but they need to say "why", without the "should be" parts, IYKWIM.
I personally trust 100% the authenticator being used by OP, she's flawless, but I have seen other authenticators for H products (not just bags, also scarves) made mistakes.
OP, please fight for your bag, at least for a full and fair explanation from H. Good luck!

i understood why the hermes wouldn't explain how they found out the bag is not authentic, none wants to teach fake bag makers how to make their fake bags better.

What if one buys directly from the store and 15 years later take it back only to be called fake just because of poorly trained employees. I've seen in person those so called triple A counterfeits from China and they do not 100% match the original. They may use good import leather from Italy and their stitches may mirror the originals but the hardware is hard to copy, especially the gold color and I've seen some of them wear off after a few use. A counterfeiter could dismantle a real one and overlay them on new leather to copy the size but there is always something that can tell you from a fake. That probably comes with years of use and I second a few members here that bababebi is one of the best authenticators on Hermes.

Care to share which sellers out there have colluded with authenticators to pass off fakes? I have not see any reputable recommended authenticators that have done that.
