My best friend was an Assistant Manager at LV for 5 years (she just left the company about 1 1/2 years ago to take another management position with a different company) and she said the pay was awful compared to other companies. I know Valley O mentioned Nordstrom and I have heard that they do in fact pay their managers well. My friend however was making in the range of around $35,000 to $40,000 a year while living in a very expensive city. Plus she said many of the customers that you deal with are difficult, demanding and some look down on you because you are a SA and they are shopping at LV. She mentioned that the facade fades pretty quickly and it becomes just another retail job.

I remember having a talk with an SA in training (probational period of a couple of months?) and she said she got paid around AUD18.00/hour but she was working casual. She had just finished uni and decided to pop her resume into the LV store on Collins Street and there she was! She didn't end up staying as she went back to uni. I do know for sure they prefer people who can speak an additional language.

My bro's friend who worked at LV in Sydney said she use to get 30% off purchases (I'm assuming only bags) but she had to wait about 3 months to get them. But you must have worked there for a minimum time and there is a limit to how much you can purchase!

I think it's a good job and to be surrounded by the things you like, what more could you ask for?:tender:

I would definitely believe that!!! I had a *brief* stint in retail (right at the end of high school) and I couldn't believe the way that some customers spoke!!

My mistake- I guess LV doesn't pay well! My earlier comments related to *most* upscale stores, but I don't know what LV pays specifically. Also in general I think SAs at department stores make more than most boutique SAs. MY SA owns more bags than she can count but then again she's a manager so her income is probably not comparable to a reguar SA's.

Jenny Wong is pretty slack at replying to your emails. I applied about 4 weeks ago for the LV store at DFS in Auckland, and I didn't get a reply from her. A week later I emailed her to ask if she could confirm she received my CV and still got no reply. Finally just last week I got a call from the DFS store saying that they had my CV and wanted to know if I spoke another language (I purposely left this out because the job ad said "ideally bilingual" and I don't speak another language). If I did speak another language then I know the job would have been mine, it's just that the DFS store is full of mainly asian tourists.

Ahh, thanks for this info! I applied via Seek first and it came back to me saying not delivered. dont know why. so then I sent my application directly to Jenny Wong and no response. I have been thinking of sending an email asking if they received it. What do you think?

Im pretty sure they prefer people who can speak an asian language, although I did put I can speak basic Italian. Its just annoying waiting, atleast if they can let you know that you have no interview and not what they are looking for, then I can stop thinking about it and move on!!!! :push:

My friend works at LV for over a year now as a SA and Specialist in SLG. The pay is very small for how much she works (IMO). She has a year budget on how many items she can purchase. There is not that much benefits as I would think there will be. LV has billions but does very little for theirs employees.

Its tough to make a living doing retail. I know I couldn't do it. I imagine many of SA's have spouses who contribute to the family income.

I believe the only way to make a decent amount of money when working for LV (or any other upscale brand) is to work in the company's corporate office in marketing, advertising, finances, accounting, etc..

Seems hard to believe, but I suppose it would

My friends sister used to work at LV in South Coast. My friend said she made 70K per year with no commision. They were allowed to buy returns etc at 10 to 15 % discount. But, that was like 7 years ago.

I worked in corporate for a major retailer, and I had visiblity to the salaries of all our levels. And actually you can make a lot of money being on the floor (sales). Our luxury departments had a higher base + commission structure than other departments because of the competition. The reason why is because being a Luxury SA means you have clientele, and most of the time when a Luxury SA moves to a different company, their clientele goes with them. We were constantly battling the other high end boutiques to not steal our SA's.

I do not have knowledge about Louis Vuitton, but this is how it was at the retailer I worked for.

Many times people were offered department management positions but they did not take it because they could make more money being on the floor and controlling how much comission they make.
