Scarves How to Wear a 90cm Carre/Silk Twill Casually?

Congratulations on this wonderful thread MYH! This is how I wear my carres 70 in cowboy knot style: I fold it in triangle and make a knot in one of the ends, once I wrap it around my neck I slide the other end across the knot and wear it sideways with the tips hanging one to the back and one to the front, it's easier when wearing a jacket. I like wearing a necklace on top of the scarf.

I love this idea of making the knot on the 'cowboy' less prominent birkinmary; it helps minimize the potential for having to fiddle with the knot tails. I'm all about minimizing the fiddling, LOL!

Gosh so much to catch up on! I finally have some time to play with my scarves his mining. The first order of business was to try arabesques *** knot. I was having trouble with the final step of tying the pointed scarf end around the gathered end so I decided to cheat and just make a knot in the pointed scarf end first then slide the gathered end through the knot and tighten it all up. I think this little trick will help those of us that aren't so dexterous. I think it works and now I will have to keep this beautiful knot in mind. And trying it twice with the same scarf did result in two very different looks just like arabesque said it would. Thanks arabesques!

Omg sorry for the huge pics. So embarrassing. I still haven't figured out how to make them smaller.

Your knot looks amazing, MYH but sadly I don't get how to tie it. I tried to follow Arabesque's instructions and resulted in a jellyfish-looking mess :shame:

BTW, this morning I wore my scarf in the Ascott Cowl knot, it was fantastic and didn't move although I was wearing a jacket.

Then I was so so inspired by BirkinMarys sideways cowboy knot with a necklace OVER her scarf. Its like a light bulb went off in my head! Why was I always wearing my necklace under my scarves??? Over looks much more casual and relaxed. A I just threw this necklace on vibe and I'm so cool I didn't even have to think about it! I don't have a beaded one like BirkinMarys with as much presence so my farandole will have to suffice. I love it!!! And a small tip for this one. After you fold in a triangle you need to fold down the long edge like 4 times in 2-3 inch strips otherwise your triangle will be too large. That's how I simulated BM's 70 with my 90 eLenK.
I'm also trying a new technique for smaller pics. Hope it works.

Ok I'm reposting my *** knot (why does it end up being all asterisks??) in a smaller size so you guys can focus on the scarf and not have to stare at a big pic of my chest.

BirkinMary - which part is not working with Arabesque's knot? I found the last step VERY difficult. The part where you need to wrap one end around all those folds. Is that also the part you are having trouble with?

I'm so glad to hear you wore the ascot cowl today! It also stays for me too. I think someone else says it falls apart on them but I don't seem to have that problem. I'm glad to hear you don't either. :smile1:

BM - as you can see from my previous pic, I LOVED this look you showed. Your scarf looks so casual chic this way. I also think the bold colors and modern design also help immensely. I think my willpower to not buy a Minuit is fading fast.

Yes MYH, join the club! it's such a fun scarf and goes with everything!
My problem with Arabesque's knot is that I can manage the whole thing around my neck, I'd love to know how you solved it.
The Ascot Crowl is going to be a staple knot this winter for sure since I just discovered that it works great over a cowl neck sweater too, thank you so much for sharing it! :smooch:

OK, I think the easiest way to achieve the final step is to first tie a loose knot in the end that is not gathered. Then slip the gathered end through the knot. Then go back and tighten the knot so that gathered parts do not slip out. Does that make sense?

You're welcome for the ascot cowl but I think Chestnutty was the original inventor!

LOVE this! Absolutely love it. Running to get my Farandole now! (Is yours an 80? I'm trying to figure out if this will work as well with a 120, or if it will be too much...)

Mine is a 80 with a farandole bracelet hooked onto it. So it's kind of like a 100cm? I'm rounding here. ;). I think it will totally work catsinthebag.

I am so glad you posted this tip MYH! I've managed the Chou Chou and the Canty Cowl pretty well, and love them, but that *** is verrrrry intimidating! I might try again soon now that there may be a better way for my fumbling hands to manage it.

Whoooohooo MYH, that lightbulb hit me as well! I didn't manage to snap a pic, darn it, but I wore a Farandole 160 with a PMCS in the long drape (no folding, just loop the scarf around with one end and use the end to tie a small knot to keep the scarf on) and was quite pleased with myself! Thanks birkinmary!

Hip Hip Hooray to BirkinMary! Next time Textilegirl - you must snap a pic! It's your duty as a scarfie.

These look fantastic, MYH. I think dip dyes look particularly beautiful with this knot. There's something about the softer fabrics that make it just sing.

I can also offer or reinforce this tip: tie a hairband around the folds after pleating that one side. It just makes it easier to handle with tying the knot and getting the look the way you want.

This knot defies the idea of "expert". Some days I can do it; others, it just looks awful. I just give a go and see. :p That's part of its "watery" charm for me.
