How to become a VIP of Chanel and what are the VIP's privileges?

Funny how this thread is being discussed today, as I was just talking about this very topic with my friend who returned from Florida.

She was in Florida, shopping with a friend from New York. Even though the VIP customer was from New York, the Florida SA's all knew her by name. The New Yorker bought 2 purses and got 10% off each one.

Isn't it ironic that the ones who spend the most are most likely the ones who don't need the discount?

You know, I'm not that impressed by the 10% discount.

I found out that the SA's that work in the department store (where Chanel is located) get a 25% discount on Chanel purses, and they don't even work for Chanel...

I was actually just wondering this the other day. I think I've heard that for LV you have to spend at least 5 digits (xx,xxx). I wonder if it's the same for Chanel since I would qualify for that. If I don't somehow be a Chanel VIP I'll be kinda irked!!!

It's all a matter of mentality. They will continue to shop at a certain place when they feel special. The discount is just mental really, since like you said, people that spend that much don't need the discount by any mean. It just keeps them coming back for more since they feel like they're saving a bit of money and get special treatment.

I've heard though that they do have regulations on what they can buy with the discount. My SA from Chanel Ala Moana said that they have all these rules and they can't use their discount to buy the latest things that come out.

I'd love to be Chanel VIP one day, but I know unless I married a billionaire I'll never get to that status since I'm not a trust fund baby. It seems fun, but it's not a huge deal to me. :push:

I hear LV's VIP gives free little gifts at their VIP parties. Since I don't spend enough at LV to qualify (not a huge fan of their bags, except for the Mahina) I wouldn't know. That's what I've picked up from the LV subforum though.

this maybe a little off topic but my dad is a vip at Prada HK and he gets 10% off his purchases at the boutiques. he frequents and shops at HK once every two months so that is how he became a vip i guess? my dad purchases luggage/bags/shoes/RTW. i'm not a fan of Prada and i don't think i'll ever have the capacity to spend so much at Chanel unless by miracle my future DH is very wealthy or i become a billionaire myself. LOL!

vip or not, i sure am treated like one whenever i make a trip down to the boutique, simply b/c everyone has seen me around and knows me! *hides her face* lol! though that 10% seems very tempting... makes me wanna buy even more, it's a marketing strategy isn't it? we're all smart enough not to fall for that??

^LOL. I know. Recently, I've been going to the Chanel boutique so many times they all know me already. They also know not to bug me too much since they know I have one particular SA that I'm loyal to. Sometimes I wonder if they talk about me when I leave, like doesn't that girl have a life? LOL. The 10% discount does sound nice, but if you have to spend $150k USD to get it, that's just ridiculous.

in HK you need to spen 250K each year to maintain vip status and there is a ratio on the things you buy ...you can't just buy bags ... you need to buy clothes, shoes, watches etc to proof that you truely 'love' chanel then you get 10% off but only for 1 year then buy another 250k to maintain it

although the 10% off is very tempting...but the most important thing i wanna be an CHANEL VIP in hk is to preview the collection of the season at the begining...becoz as a normal customer in hk...u never be lucky enough to see the nice bags in store...they are sold out at VIP preview or on hold for VIPs...and even when i ask to be on waitinglist... the SAs always said to me...no more waitinglist...its full of people on already...so pissed...

Don't know if it's useful, but I find that every bag at HK chanel that gets snapped up superquick can usually be found in Macau Wynns chanel. I buy most of my bags from there because well, it's always easy to justify buying chanel when you're in a casino, and also, because I walk in there all the time (sometimes twice a day hahah omg:P) when I'm spending time in macau so yes, the stalker-recognizedbyallSAs syndrome =p

and yes, the waiting list is always terrible in HK side, but the macau SAs always seem to be fine with letting walk-in customers jump the queue, probably because HK would have an actual long-term VIP base while I would assume most people buying from macau are transient tourists etc. I've also been offered discounts on shoes/clothes etc even though I don't have any VIP status or whatever, and they always reserve/get whatever item I want so honestly, rather than 'fight' in HK side for 'hot' bags, I just do it stress free with tiptop service in macau. just call them up and see if they have whatever bag you want.. hope that helps!
