How much does it cost for hair nowadays?

Free! I bought the CreaClip during the phase where people couldn‘t get haircuts (there are multiple ways to use it before you judge any videos you watch - the upside down technique is NOT the way to go IMO 😅) and my husband bought a Wahl clipper set. We looked decent during that wild time as a result and we still look decent now 🙂 We actually prefer doing each other‘s hair now after these few years and I don‘t think we‘ll be going back to the salon anytime soon. He does a blunt bob on me with the CreaClip and I use a combo of the clippers for the back and sides plus the CreaClip on the top for him.

I think the only people that *may* be able to tell we cut each others‘ hair are professional stylists, and maybe not even then. Our neighbour who is a salon owner thinks we do a pretty good job.

Before that phase, it was about $80 CAD for a basic trim last I checked.
Cool! I'm going to check out CreaClip.

I bought a Wahl clipper set and have been cutting DH's hair for years. He hates going to a barber shop. At first my haircuts were pretty bad, so bad his family noticed and made remarks. One day he ran into his former barber on the street and his barber offered to fix his hair.  But I think I've improved a bit, thanks to Youtube videos. The fact that he's grown older and his hair has thinned has helped too.

Now my elderly mom, even though she's suffering dementia, freaks out over my haircuts and styling, so she's the only one in the family still getting the full salon treatment.

Men's haircuts here are about $40 plus tip.

I changed hairdresser in February as my previous hairdresser had a stroke and retired.
Luckily I have no grey hairs, so highlights and blow dry and tip came to just under £300.
It was a great experience and I feel decades younger(literally )- my hair has been transformed , I’m sticking with the same hairdresser in the same salon(branded salon)

highlights are more expensive than doing roots but they last longer....my roots could be done every three weeks.....highlights you can go three months or longer?

Highlights are great if you are lightheaded and willing to deal with hair damage.
I must say that in the hands of a competent stylist, it looks fantastic.
I don’t know about decades younger:giggle: but definitely better looking.

I used to get highlights at the salon but when I would do my roots the color would wash over them and basically eliminate them

I don’t have a single grey hair, and everyone guesses my age at at least 25 years younger than my true age (56 in April).
My hair is also in the best condition it’s been in for years..

I've been getting just color for quite a while and having DH trim the bottom of my hair. I decided it was time for a real haircut and having her fix the layers on my curly hair. I expected it to cost maybe $80. It was $95 - $114 with tip. She did take her time cutting and spent far more time with the curling iron than I wanted or expected. I guess this is in line with what other hairdressers would charge for a Deva cut but had I done color the same day, the bill would have been around $300.

I'm thinking possibly next time I want a haircut I'll ask her if she can skip the curling iron (or just do minor touchup with it) and whether she would charge less. Don't know if that will annoy her. I commented when she was curling it that I hadn't expected her to spend that much time on it. She laughed and said she couldn't just touch it up.

I guess since I've been going to her for a few years and basically like her, maybe it's best just pay what she wants.

$350 including tip, for shampoo, blowout, and press using Olaplex and K18 products. My hair averages 24 inches, but it's short 20 here and longer 26 there. I don't know why there's so much breakage.

I stopped going to the salon once my stylist began servicing 5-6 clients at the same time. It was a miserable experience. Before, it would only be me in the chair from start to finish. Being brushed, then sat aside for the next client to be brushed... then shampooed, and sat under the hot dryer for a ridiculously long time while waiting for her to shampoo 2 others that came after me... it draws out the time! It typically takes 3-4 hours for a gentle brush and calming press. When she juggled her clients I was in the salon for 7 hours.

Now I do my hair at home. I've considered getting a relaxer but I love having curly hair. It's difficult to brush on the go sometimes so my styles are a bit more natural.

What is press? what products are you using at home? I'm confused - you like your curly hair but you were having it pressed and blown out?
Just curious as I have NC hair and it tends to be dry. a couple of weeks ago I used a Deva deep conditioner but it didn't seem to do anything.

Press is another word for straightening. It's slang, I suppose. What is NC hair?

Yes, straightening once in a while is just another hairstyle. Recently, I've been using various styles of princess braids. Never heard of Deva. I keep mini versions of "its a 10 plus" in my purses to mist when my hair is dry- maybe twice a week during an outing. BTW if you carry leather purses I recommend keeping a separate plastic pouch for it! Sometimes the nozzles leak.

NC is naturally curly
I do have It's a Ten - hasn't seem to do much for my hair
Deva Curl is a hair care line and they also created a method for cutting curly hair dry to follow the curl pattern. they train stylists in the method.

My hair maintence is $0 dollars. Except the cost of shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. I have naturally curly hair and I have my brother shave it off once a year and just let it grow out for a year and then shave it again. A few years ago, I wanted something super super low maintenance. I am at the point in my life where I am not trying to impress anyone and know for a fact I am done with dating for life. It is almost time for my head to be shaved again but I think I might actually grow it out this time. I have dark hair with the some white streaks. I don't care about coloring it.
