How many pieces of clothing in your wardrobe?

I like it - Very Much!!!Well done!!!

You've covered everything you need and if you have room in your closets for a hanger for each piece coming then you won't be tempted to fill them up with impulse buys!!!

Also, as the boots aren't clothes, it rounds your pieces of clothing to a neat 100 pieces - very clever!

I'm very proud that I've helped you - though you did the list- welcome to a season of no mistakes!!!

Thanks again, C! That was seriously the most fun fashion exercise I've ever done!! I can't wait to fill those spots and be able to put together fabulous outfits that use the interesting pieces I've already developed.

BTW I'm about to do my reveal!! Yay!

Apart from my mums birthday party tomorrow that will be the highlight of my weekend!:graucho:

Hello all,

this thread inspired me to go through my wardrobe and count what is left after 2 trans-atlantic moves, one pregnancy and losing our jobs....

so here you go:

Bottoms: 17
Jeans: 3
Pants: 6
Leggings: 2
Shorts: 3
Skirts: 3

Dresses: 13
Sweater: 3
Summer/Tunics/Transitional: 8
Maxi: 2

Tops: 31
Fancy blouses: 5
Everyday shirts: 3
T shirts, longsleeves, tanktops: 10
Camis: 3
Each 1 fleece and hoodie
Sweaters: 3
Cardis: 5

Jackets: 8
Blazer: 1
Parka: 1
Trenchcoat: 2
Leather: 2
Bolero/fancy: 1
Winter snow: 1

Shoes: 13
Bags: 8
Scarves: 5

I haven't bought anything new since about 2 years and luckily I bought quality stuff before (leather shoes and bags). I also allowed myself to move most of my bags, shoes and jackets because they would be the most expensive to replace. Stuff from H&M and Zara broke straight away, what I have left is mostly from Esprit and Guess (Jeans). However the depressing thing is that many of these garments need repairs or just don't look like they once did (some of my t shirts still have a bump in them because I couldn't buy maternity clothes..)

Edit: I didn't list my exercise clothes..

I think that makes about 100 in total (haven't tallied it up), which would be OK if I wouldn't miss some key pieces that would make my wardrobe more versatile. For this I have a wish list that keeps me going to find a new job pronto :smile1:

Was interesting to read everyone's lists.

Hi girl, thanks for sharing your list! I loved this exercise, too.

If you find a good tailor, a lot of repairs are possible and usually fairly cheap. Last year, I got a new job with a more formal dress code so instead of buying all new (and boring!) formal stuff, I had my tailor redesign some of my loose, blah- fitting pants and skirts. It was like getting a new wardrobe of 1 pant and 4 or 5 skirts, but for less than the cost of one of these items (like $130 tailoring costs!). Luckily, I'd bought quality, too, before so it was well-worth it.

Best wishes!

Stay positive - I have a long wish list too and it never seems to end...

Next shopping trip planned (on credit cards) on Wednesday...:smile1:

I'm able to 'exclude' a lot f things because I have Avery compartmentalized life.
I don't count work clothes bc they're not what I'd wear in my free time... Is that ok?

Other than those, lounge & workout clothes and staples like tanks for under shirts,
about 6 tee shirts,
4 long sleeve tees
I have 2 formal gowns (in expected to go to about 1 event a year)
5 date night dresses
3 skirts
5 'style jackets/blazers' jackets (not coats)
3 scarves
4 pr jeans
4 pants
3 blouses

And a ton of shoes, 3 bags (not including 1 dressy clutch)

I tried to pare down a lot in he last yr and think I've done well

Forgot: 4 sweaters, 3 maxi dresses

After two massive clean outs this year where I got rid of anything that didn't fit, flatter, or was low quality - I have exactly 105 pieces.

I'm definitely buying less these days and sticking with quality pieces.

Sounds like you've sorted your wardrobe - well done!!!

I wish mine was finished but I've got a long way to go as I want so many new pieces and still have pieces that don't fit me properly..I'm gradually working my way through the unworn pieces one at a time...:smile1:

It definitely takes time. The first time around a lot of sentimental but completely useless pieces stayed. Luckily, They did not make second cut.

What would you say is a good number of pieces?Ideally I would like to have around 200 pieces of good quality, flattering items.

200 sounds perfect!!

Now just think of the fun you'll have choosing the other 95 - what a challenge!!

Wish I was there to help!

How are you getting on with your shopping for your winter collection :smile1:?

I agree with and really love this strategy.
Although each purchase is much more of a blow to the wallet/bank account/credit card... they definitely happen less often. I think if i went back to my days when I used to buy total s*&t every weekend to go out, compared to now... annually, I probably spend about the same. Except I get more cost-per-wear value with the stuff I have now.
Plus, because the items are of higher quality, I'm more willing to spend a little to maintain them because I know they'll last a long time. And in doing that, I ensure they fit me perfectly, which makes me feel more confident. So, buying quality is really just better all around (for me).
It was a great revelation to evolve to someone who prefers quality over quantity. I'm proud of myself. And knowing that over all, I'm not really spending more keeps me from feeling embarrassed or ashamed about spending $ on just 1 item.

I remember, reading the dead fleurette's blog post and this one too (about why Parisian woman always look so darn good). Them coupled with a trip to Paris that during and afterwards I felt very frumpy - changed my life.
(not my blog of course)

I'm definitely buying less these days and sticking with quality pieces.
