I love the idea of counting your pieces. One of my colleagues asked me the other day if I have 5,000sqft house with a 2,000sqft closet because he's never seen me in the same outfit twice... He's vastly wrong, which I credit to my accessories and shoes, which change up the look. I've purged a lot but haven't replaced much yet, so I'm curious.
I'll post back once I've counted-this will help my upcoming shopping trip to update my wardrobe with much-needed pieces. I'm a newly converted fan of buying fewer pieces of the best quality. Excited!
Not much. I used to have lots of clothes but I donated alot of it to the Salvation Army this past Summer. Nowadays I like a simple closet, a few of each ie shirts, sweaters, jackets etc. Too much clothing makes me go banoodles, I have to keep rotating and giving away what I no longer want to the needy or family/friends who need it.
hummm....this thread has made me wonder just how much I have.
I think I am going to count and report back.
My problem is I tend to buy a lot of the same types of clothing in various colors since I love colors. I'm trying to not buy so many of the trendy pieces since those are the ones I give away the most.
I have the exact same issue.
I decided not to buy anything at all until 1st January and get rid, consign, eBay whatever I don't wear because I only tend to wear the same 10-15% of all my clothes. I don't know how to change that.
Looking forward to hearing your count up!
I'm going to try and maintain 50 - replacing worn out pieces and refreshing with pieces from my currently 20 piece wishlist.
Just have to try to resist TKMAXX splurges and impulse shopping.![]()

I love this idea. I'd love to hear back on your progress of selling/ridding yourself of the old stuff. I did the same recently and catalogued a bit of the experience to remind myself not to hold on to my new/current clothes until they're as pilly/ill-fitting/out-of-date as the ones I parted with.
As for not wearing the same stuff all the time, I'm in the same place. It feels like a real rut. However, since I've given away SO MUCH I only have like 2 jeans and 4 shirts I used to wear on repeat, so this is forcing me to wear my nicer stuff. My hubby loves it, and it feels like a challenge to rotate fewer clothes without feeling confined to boring attire.
Well, my real problem is that whenever there is a sale or I have a free shipping coupon, I have to get something even if I don't need it. Then I'm returning it and if I missed the return deadline, I'm selling it on Ebay. This is an endless circle, I think I need to resolve some other issues in my life because that clothing/bags/shoes obsession is a reflexion of other problems.
I was seriously depressed when my mother got sick and passed and this is when all that got out of control even though I always always loved clothes. I cleaned my closet a little bit after reading this thread, sorted the pile of sweaters and tops.
Another issue is that I'm keeping some things untouched because I'm afraid to damage them! This is really stupid, actually. I have a new bag and it is in its dust bag in my closet for 3 months now only because I don't want to accidentally scratch it if I take it out. I'm taking it out, admiring it and putting it back.
Sounds like you need to go shopping for some more casual wear lol![]()
