Hello ladies~

I feel a little ashamed because of how spoiled I just realized I am....
I'm a currently a dental school student (my parents have paid for all of my private school education starting from high school)

They basically pay for everything....school, food, living expenses, clothes, bags, and everything else. They won't let me work until I graduate school because they would rather have me focus on my studies and pay them back once I'm graduated, settled down, and making money...I'm in the process of convincing them to let me work this summer for some money that I won't feel embarrassed/guilty spending...

I am working mum...but not in any industry. I stay at home and manage family affair with 3 kids. Work 24/7 no leave even when I am sick. Luckily darling hubby appreciates my decision to stay home and raise the kids and he bought all my bags...and everything else. He said that's the only way he knows to say thank you to me. But last expenditure was Heart On Fire solitaire diamond ring. That was something different hmmm..

When I was single and working as Business Analysts, I bought my own bags and the ones that I do not want to use anymore, I gave it to my sisters.

So yeah I do earned all my LV, MiuMiu, Marc Jacob :)

why do they have to let you work? cant you find a summer job without them knowing? im sure its not so difficult.
plus it may be helpful to actually go in a dentist's office and ask them to allow you to work for them, even for free - your field of work needs a lot of practice, and you dont get that by studying.

im usually saving so i pay in cash. i dont like the CCs

Interesting thread!

Personally I buy in the mid price range, and never full price. Thankfully my addiction is Coach who oblige me by discounting their products 3 months after they are released.

I think a lot of the posters 'recycle' their $$$$'s, they buy one item, reveal it, and then trade it in for the next one thereby enhancing the perception of what they own. Some on the other hand do have large amounts of disposable income - and some are in debt.

Personally I don't really pay too much attention to who has what - I just enjoy the reveals :D:D
I think you're right on the money. I always laugh when someone posts "i have this one bag that still has the tags on it from 3-4-5 months ago"....really? I try mine out around the house a day or 2..tags be gone....I wear it or return it!!

It's called fortunate. Not spoiled. As long as you don't behave superior to others and realize how fortunate you are then you aren't spoiled. It is when one has a holyer than thou demeanor and snobiness about them that makes them downright awful and spoiled!
In response to OP's question, personally, I don't like saving up for a bag. I believe in buying what I can afford. The money has to be there. The only time I bought something that was more than my limit was when I was selling a piece of jewelry that I no longer wanted. In a case like that one, a bag depreciates in value far greater than any piece of jewelry. It doesn't matter what brand it is once it has been worn. In this case I justified the purchase by using the bag non stop.

I think I've already responded to this thread, but I'll chime in again!

My parents (mainly mom) would buy my sister and I bags for Christmas and sometimes birthdays. Even as I was younger, however, I would go halfsies and I would pay half for a bag I wanted and my parents would pay the other half. Mind you, I don't come from a wealthy family so being able to buy a Coach bag or a Michael Kors bag was (and still is) very exciting!

Now I'm a working girl (albeit a retail job), but a working girl nonetheless so I buy all my own bags without any help from mom. I never pay full retail price for my bags because mom works at Macy's so I do use her discount there and at Bloomingdales. And every now and then I'll buy a bag at the outlets which are incredibly discounted.

I also live at home where I don't have to pay rent or for utilities so I'm very fortunate not to have any monetary responsibilities so I can spend the money I earn as I please. One day that will all change, but I'm enjoying it while I can!

Yes, you're definitely right; fortunate would be a better term to use than spoiled... I think the sad truth is that many people DO think that their luxury/expensive bags give them the right to behave as you say "holier than thou demeanor."

Anyways, thank you for your understanding :)

This is a very good question. I go back to S. Korea over summer break (because I live with my parents outside of school)..I've actually tried working without my parents' knowledge but it took them less than three days to figure it out... They said that I had the option to either continue working and start paying for all of my expenses including college tuition...or I could just wait until I have graduated dental school to start working... Being an international student in the States, I am not eligible for any kind of student loans/FAFSA so giving in to my parents' wishes seemed the easiest option...
I do work at dental clinics but it is mostly not paid labor....(It's like interning where I am not in the position to ask for pay since I should be thankful for obtaining the position in the first place >.< )
Luckily, I will be a little less busy this summer so I've gotten the okay to work :D (Hopefully this summer it can be me who buys my mother a gorgeous bag instead of the other way around..)

I am fortunate because my husband's business took off a few years ago and we were able to pay off two mortages in full being only in our mid-30s. We no longer have a house payment so I have a bit to play with. I've always bought my bags in cash and for the past couple of years, I've limited myself to only two-three designer bags annually.

I've decided that after I purchase my fifth Chanel (later this year) I will stop buying designer purses and will only do so if/when one of them becomes unusable and needs a replacement. I've already downsized my collection and sold/given away what I no longer use. Five designer bags, alongside my other low-end bags is more than enough for a SAHM like me who rarely leaves the house! With the ridiculous price increases, my practical side keeps nagging me and telling me that I will indulge myself one final time but no more after that.

oh, im sorry if i seemed judgmental there, i never would have guessed you actually are not from the US, lol
you're doing the right thing, and if they can afford paying for your school, thats awesome :)
and i never thought you're spoiled either because clearly they are doing what they think it's best for you and your future..
good luck :)

Great stories from everyone here.
I am 28 years old, married for 3 years now and no kids yet.I have a great job working as a Chef, which pays well and my DH is a Marine Security Consultant which means he's often away from home;travelling around the world. My job means working long hours, tight schedules and constantly tired. But in my spare time or when i have time off work i just shop,i recently started collecting high end bags as i find i derive great joy on my days off when we/i am out, carrying my gorgeous bags on my arm;it makes it all worth while:heart:
Even though most of the items in my closet has never been worn and most of them ahs still got their tags still on them:yes: i love to shop cos apart from cooking i love fashion,make-up etc.
DH is very generous as well,i personally do not have a credit card, never have, never will.i deal with cash;so i know if i don't have it i don't buy nothing.

Don't feel bad about not working. Your parents are kind enough to support you while you're in school so focus on that. When you graduate and have a career, you'll have plenty of time to buy them nice things and "pay them back". Does that make sense?
