Hi,

This thread is cool since I'm one who is also always wondering how people own their designers bags!
Since I have never bought any designer bags... i have not yet found the "courage" to part my savings for the wallet and bag...
I wonder did anybody face the same situation as me, when getting the very first designer bag/wallet with own savings... (^^;)
I can so relate. I have 3 kids & somehow, no matter what, an expense comes up and sabotages my spending on a bag. To share, when I made my first purchase for a YSL, I must have called the boutique at least a dozen times asking countless questions, then finally visited the boutique, went home "slept on it" and phoned back the following day and ordered the bag on the phone. That bag was $900 on sale. I justified the price being great for a premier designer handbag. My purchase after that was to Gucci where I purchased a $1300 bag "on presale". I charged half and paid cash. (In my mind if DH ever saw the charge, he wouldn't know the full cost.) I walked out of there feeling mentally exhausted 'cause at that time I had never done anything that outlandish for myself. I easily blow three times that on my DD, but when it comes to a single purchase for that amount for myself, I feel guilty. Whatever savings I have I spend on my kids.

I think what it really should come down to, but I for one, don't follow this equation, is to spend within our means; where the purchase wouldn't even make a dent in the wallet.

I save and buy preowned bags. I'm fine with doing that for now. I just can't justify spending $$$$ when I'm a freelancer. (Well, until my freelancing brings me to over $60k a year, than I won't have a problem.)

Crazy strategic buying crazily during sales and purging every now and then!
I'm trying to behave unless aN hg shows up!
If there's crazy sale going on I distribute payments amongst debit card and 2 credit cards.
I'm hopeless I guess!

I have a fair amount of patience and keep looking until I find the exact bag I want on eBay for a steep discount. Then I just go for it. That means I spend a lot of time looking when I'm in the obsessing stage....

I'm resourceful with selling off unwanted bags and jewelry on eBay. I don't have huge expectations of profit, but some times it's all in the timing and luck. I had saved a goodly amount for LV this year but the price increase really put me off so I splurged on my kids instead :)

Buy with cash earned from my hard work. no credit card debt from me!
Lucky enough to have a well paid job that I can afford to buy any premier bag I want without stress of saving. Unfortunately I only look for practicality & durability. I don't feel pain from giving away bags if someone wants it more than me especially my close relatives, knowing I only want it but but don't need it. Half of the time I carried my bag once or twice & then sitting in my closet.

I'm still a college student but I do internships during the holidays, save, sell what I don't use anymore, ask for some money for important occasions and that's it. I buy around 2-3 handbags per year. It's not a lot but I'm happy with that, I feel like I appreciate them more this way since I know it takes a rather long time for me to be able to afford them. And well, I love nice clothes as well so I tend to spend there too (but never as much as a bag, I stick to high street / mid end when it comes to clothing except for coats and shoes...)

I have job that pays well, and since I have no kids, no cars (can't drive) and no mortgage, I spend most of my money on designer bags. I also don't go to fancy restaurant since I like cooking at home and I don't buy clothes unless it's necessary. Also when I buy a new bag I sell the old one that I don't use anymore.

I get paid well for my work but I have lots of bills to pay so I depends mostly on my strict saving routine and eBay stalking. I used to be able to afford two designer bags per year when I was still with my previous company, but now that I'm freelancing I could only afford one, tops.

I have to thank my Dear Husband for my bags. We pay with credit cards, but pay the bills at the end of the month. I average a bag a month, but I think I'm going to slow down. I have always found them on sale, but I have my eye on a full retail price soon, so that might change my frequency. Anyway, I am very happy, and in the honeymoon stage of purse buying, because I bought my first designer bag in November. Before that they were all cute vegan bags, which now sit in my closet, and only come out in terrible weather. Now, if I had a millionaire lover, I would buy a lot more bags, but I'm not complaining. Things are just fine the way they are. :)
