okk, well I save money and i work. lol.

i only buy one designer bag a year, maybe two at the most.

i only have three so far, but I'll probably be buying my bag for the year 2009 this summer.

I'm 27. Been made redundant and fuelling my bag addiction with some of my savings and cc with 0% interest.
I wish I had sisters to share my love of bags - my mum isn't as crazy as I am unfortunately.
My boyf doesn't understand the addiction but will contribute to a purchase for a special occasion, e.g birthday/xmas etc.
All you ladies out there who have boyfriends paying for their bags - lucky you!

I have a full-time job and a generous DH.

DH doesn't pay for my shopping but he takes of the household expenses and that leaves me with the freedom to buy whatever I like (if I can afford it).

I buy whatever strikes my fancy so it could be a $50 purse or a new Prada.
However, I've over spent recently and am on a ban!!

I don't have children either. As much as I like kids, DH is right. My closet is full of 'children' wanting my attention! :p

Hey all -- great thread... I'm 37, married and childfree by choice. I did 8 years of school (college then prof school), then 3 years of a residency during which I lived on loans -- subway subs, gap on sale, miller lite... Now I make a pretty decent living, making more than my DH, so I spend on a few nice things... we live in a modest house and drive modest cars, but we do travel A LOT and eat out A LOT-- those are our luxuries.
My only personal luxuries are some moderate - high end handbags, and 1-2 nice jewelry purchases a year.
I have about 4 MBBJ bags, 2 leather coach, 2 Tano -- and only one "major bag purchase" --an LV graffiti speedy.
I never carry a credit card balance.

I am 21, turning 22 soon, still in college and working part-time. I don't make that much money, but I don't have much to pay for because I live with my parents and they pay for my car insurance and my car was already paid off because it was a hand-me-down from my mom. I do have a little credit card debt and a year's worth of student loans but I think that's okay because I'm still young and I can pay that off when I have a career =)

My bags comes from the funds of myself, my boyfriend (sometimes) and my mom (sometimes). I love clothes but I mostly shop at f21 and my shoes are mostly steve madden, so most of my $$ goes to bags, my most recent purchase was my Trevi (my most expensive bag $1400 pre-loved) and I only buy 1 or 2 bags a year. I have to admit that I do spend more than I have, but I dont' go completely crazy. I really need to start budgeting myself though! I'm really fortunate because my mom loves to treat me once in a while!

I also go on trips a lot with my boyfriend, we go on trips maybe 3-4 times a year to vegas, san fran, and places like that. So, I don't think I'm in that bad of a financial situation for the things that I get to do and things I get to buy. Or maybe I'm just in denial? haha

My goal for Fall semester is to pay off my CC with my student loan (and not take out any more student loans, this is the first year I had to take out a loan) and not spend my CCs anymore!!!

24, almost 25, full time employed. Live in a fabulous area so aside from rent and cell phone I pretty much have extra money. I've been trying to be good and build my savings back up to over 10K but totally splurged on my most expensive bag yet - a brand new prada for my 25th birthday. Feeling a bit guilty but hey - I've worked hard and deserve it.

All of my bags have come from me saving for them; only a few were presents. Most I buy second hand because you can find better deals that way but truthfully nothing compares to buying a bag brand new. :)

i'm 21 currently a student and work a part time job. (my mother and i share a PF account, but i've been taking over) i just recently bought a brand new car (almost $30k). almost a year ago. By the end of this month I would have it officially paid off. I saved all my money thoughout my life time. So far this year, I’ve bought 3 MJ Stams, 4 Balenciagas, and little accessories. And on top of that I have my school tuition to pay. I have no debt on my CC’s. I always pay my CC’s off at the end of the month. Now, I afford my handbags by selling one to fund one. Sell little things on eBay/Bonanzle. I use to not use my work/job money for handbags, but this year I had to. My obsession for handbags is not getting any better each day. (thanks to PF ;)) But I promise myself I would never pull money out of my 401k or IRA!

But overall, if I can't afford it, I won't buy it.

i'm super picky about my handbags, but i'm the same way too. i would buy second hand, and majority of the time second hand is good because the original owner may not have used the handbag more then 5x! and it would still be at least $200 off of retail.

I just turned 24 and finished my first year teaching. I live with my mom, so I don't pay any rent. (I have offered to give her money to put towards her mortgage, but she says no. I do buy groceries sometimes). My bills include student loan payments, car payment (I just bought my first car ever!), car insurance, credit cards (that I don't use anymore and don't have high balances), and cell phone. I buy all my bags with cash. I have a few Dooneys that I bought in college (also with cash) and several Coach purses I've bought within the last few months. I'm currently saving for my first LV. I'll admit that I do spend a lot of money, but I pay all my bills first, always pay with cash/debit card, always have a sizable cushion in my bank account, and am about to start a savings account.

Edited to say I also always search for deals. I've only paid retail for one bag in my collection!

But I still need to be better about spending! I may spend money I have, but I spend too much!

devoted7, what part time job are you doing?

It's amazing that you are 21 and have a part time job that allows you to
1) pay off 30k in car morgage in 1 year
2) pay for tution
3) plus a couple handbags!

or should i be asking where you're living!

We're neither credit debt or millionaires. We did all the right things early on in our marriage and have a nice home and property (saved, invested, insured, collected, etc)

My dh and I have only one vice each and that is my handbags and his plasma televisions. We don't travel, don't eat out, only rarely go to the movies. We pay our mortgage and all related household expenses on time. The credit card is only used for online purchases and paid up in full each month.

We have children. We do spend on our children, basic necessity like nutrition and rewards like bikes and musical instruments. We use the library a lot these days.

I'm a SAHM. I'm an accomplished home cook and cook every day except for Friday Nite takeout. I admit I will buy cookbooks if I can't live without them, and they are always bought used and in good shape. I got a $35 book the other day for 99cents on eBay recently and I sell off a lot of my books I no longer need (there is a constant supply of these after 40 years of reading). I donated over 400 books recently and got a tax write off for them for next year.

I buy only the "classic" styles of handbags and for every item, I try to sell or come up with money to pay for it (eBay for many things I can sell). Of course since my dh is the one with the salary, he helps out when he can but I don't take advantage of it. I don't even dip into the bank account that much either. Through frugality, I've managed to acquire this year:

1 Chanel backpack (pre-owned)
1 Chanel flap (pre-owned)
2 Marc by Marc Jacobs tote bags (new)

If LV designs the bag I'm hoping for, I might go for it. It's not always easy living modestly and frugally because all our friends live more extravagantly than us and sometimes it feels as if we're living vicariously through them. It's getting easier tho, some things have become less important to us outside of our family. I do wish I could travel more but I'm good at armchair traveling too. In front of the plasma.

i'm early 30's, married, 2 two kids. my husband and i are in medical field. We both make good money but we have student loans, mortage, and our kids' tuition. i used to buy a lot of Coach 10-12 bags/yr but i have sold off my coach collection and moved onto Marc jacobs. i cann't buy that many more. Now i sell 2 and buy 1. My collection is downsized substantially. I have a "zero bag fund" , i just used money sold on old purse to purchase new. i don't have cc debt, we pay it off every month. We're almost done with our mortgage
