How do you afford your bags and how many per year? Credit debt or millionare lover?

(I, admittedly am a little spoilt (only girl out of 37 cousins... but I've insanely appreciative and don't take anything for granted)

Many of my bags were purchased by my parents or aunt for me (not high end, but like MK, Kate spade, coach) ... I accumulated enough and ended up turning them eBay and using that to find my larger purse purchases. (Bal work, Gucci hobo, Pucci tote, ysl wallet)...

I ended up selling the bal work and using that money towards my most recent purchase... Combine with the $$ from textbook returns I was just under what I needed for the pashli - so my mom (as a late bday present) spotted the remaining $$

I go to school full time, intern & volunteer and maintain a school refund from scholarships I also use - I tend to buy 2 purses a year - and rotate them when I get bored.

i go through "phases". i started buying bags in 2009. collected mindlessly, bought bags that were on sale without really thinking. stopped in 2011 when i couldnt fit my collection into my small closet. 2012 came and went without buying a single bag. Got distracted by other things for awhile.
Fast forward to 2013. im buying bags again, but now with an eye towards classics that will stand the test of time. i discovered vintage as well. i got rid of most of the bags that were sitting unused in my closet. i am keen on rotating what i have, i dont want to impulse buy like i did before.

to afford my life, ... i have two jobs, one official and the other one, more like a hobby/passion that started to make some money. i work as an art director in advertising and i paint too. i bought an expensive bag with the sales from the last painting I sold.

I've always loved handbags (cheap and expensive) but I didn't start investing large sums of money in them until about 6 months after I started a really well-paid job. My living expenses are moderate and I live with my husband who's also on a similar salary, so we have a lot of disposable income. But my buying habits are definitely going to have to change as we've a baby due any day now and I've just started my maternity leave. And I'll probably be working part-time in the foreseeable future so I reckon I won't be able to buy more than one of two designer bags a year, whereas now I buy at least 3 times that!

My hubby pays for my bags but he doesn't like those typical bags with huge logos and he will never buy them for me. He only recommends bally, longchamp, etc and anything which has no obvious logo. :(

I save.

I am still a student. So if I want a certain purse, I save from my allowance. That given, I can only afford contemporary bags such as MK, TB, KS. :D But I look forward to my future LV and Chanel once I've started working. :)

my parents pay for my handbags and other things. well, mostly my mom, she's really in charge of spending money for things like that in my house. and sometimes i buy a few things with my own money, which is technically theirs since they gave it to me. but, i have yet to put handbag charges on my credit card.

I'm quite lucky that my parents are able to pay for my tuition fees at uni and for my housing so when I work during the year (freelance / internships) I use the money for food etc... and whatever is left I just save up to get a new bag or anything else I want.

What an interesting thread!

I study at the university, so I don't have a well paying job but I like expensive bags so I save, save and save. I live with my boyfriend, who has a good job, and we split the household expenses so that I'm able to have a little bit of 'fun' money which goes to bags and travelling; I rarely go out and don't smoke, do my own hair and don't get manicures etc. This allows me to buy one or two bags a year which I'm very grateful for. Being here on tpf certainly makes me want to buy more things because of all the reveals and whatnot, but I'd never go into credit card debt because of bags, it's not worth it. I just have to accept that this is the situation now, and hopefully in a few years things will be different :smile1:

I have a great-paying job and I've never had any mouths to feed (with the exception of my very spoiled Siamese cat!)
So my play money is divided between handbags, spoiling my nieces (ages 7 1/2 and 10), stamp collecting, traveling the world, collecting Oriental rugs while on my travels and my latest obsession - Hermes scarves!
I need a raise!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Trust me, your buying habits will change to buying those cute, little baby and kids' outfits. And if you're having a girl, look out!
I don't have any kids, but I've been buying clothes for my 2 nieces ever since they've been born. The fashionable clothes, the shoes, the handbags, AND THEY'RE STILL IN GRADE SCHOOL!
I've had so much fun!!!
