If I want a new bag, or purchase anything I wait until I have the money saved up separate from my savings, rrsp etc then buy it!

THIS. I could whip money out of my savings and buy stuff if I wanted anytime. But I also have plan on living a looonnng time and retiring and I own a home where stuff like furnaces crap out in January and need replaced immediately. I do have times during the year where I come into extra money--Christmas bonus, employee retentive incentives, overtime, vacation buy backs, and this is when I buy something extra special for myself but most of it gets squirrelled away in savings. I will only let myself spend so much on a bag. I'm a saver.

I'm a saver because I need to save but I can spend a good chunk of money when I allow myself :graucho:

I save up for my own bags and put in extra work hours. I also sell a lot of stuff I don't need. (furniture, books, Beanie Babies, Pokemon cards, hahaha.) I don't go to bars and clubs or buy Starbucks every morning, and my workplace is a few minutes from my house. Budget, budget, budget!!

I don't really have any nice ones yet..

My mum got a Mulberry Antony the other day but I have actually used it before she has had a chance too (I asked of course) and its sat in my wardrobe....:D

Hopefully getting an Alexa for my 21st next year- if they decide it's too much then they will probably give me what they want to spend and then I will put the rest towards it myself.

However...I know I will end up getting obsessed. I could never trust myself with a credit card at the moment so when I do want something I will have to save up for it- I will be a university student next year (and even if this sounds really bad....) my parents will give me a generous allowance to spend on what I wish- my brother spends it on fancy meals in posh restaurants at £300 a go and I will save little bits of it each month until I find a bag I really like....i'm not going to make impulse purchases.

My bonus if its sizeable. Before I got married I was living at home so I had a lot of cash to spare. Now I own my home with my hubby and we give money to both sets of parents every month. There isn't much room for bags anymore (nor do I need any more).

1. I never ever put myself in debt. CC is always paid every month.
2. I'm a continuing college student who has a great part-time job teaching people piano and cello.
3. The purses I buy are never at retail price, including the only LV I own.
4. Currently, I'm skipping out on purse/clothing purchases because I want to concentrate on buying a 2nd hand car and pay off student debts. I do however, give myself 10% of my paycheck to go for entertainment and good food because my classes stress me out and I want to treat myself a little.

Most of my high end bags were gifts from my parents. I became a bag addict in my mid-20s (when I wasn't working) so most of my addiction was funded by them. I think my parents were just happy I had outgrown my love of anime and comic books (which I haven't :p).

The most expensive bag I bought with my own money was a Balenciaga and that was from bonuses I got from my company. My company gives out quarterly bonuses (all of which I save) and if I see that I have enough or if I see something I like, that's what I'll use. If see something I like and is under $500, I'll use money saved from my salary. Anything above that, I use my bonus money. I rarely do impulse buys especially on high ticket items. I do a lot of research (drives my mom batty!) before I decide to buy anything.

I do not own a high end bag as of yet, and one of the reasons is that I have to save up myself for one. I'm 27 years old (28 in January!).

I do not come from a wealthy household and my parents would/could never spend that much money on a bag, and I can't really blame them!

My fiancé doesn't see the sense in spending huge amounts on a bag either, although he might be able to afford it. He saves his money/ pays back the loan for his appartment where I also live in. He does give presents on special occasion, but we have a sort of 'limit' for each other which usually doesn't go over 200 €.

Me? I was a student for six years (this is the minimal time required in German med school) and although I jobbed most of the time, that money was mostly eaten up by travelling or went to my savings account (which was a good thing, since our car broke down last winter and I needed the money to pay half the cost of the new one!) or went into things I needed/ thought I needed at the time.

I started working in January 2011 and although I saved up quite a bit, most of it went into aforementioned car and travelling. Being an assistance doc in Germany, I don't make a lot of money and the payment for shifts (nights, weekends) are a joke in hospitals.

We also want to buy a house in the next ten years or so, so I try to save as much as I can. On top of that, we're planning to pay for our wedding ourselves, so there's some saving for that as well.

So how does that leave room for designer-anything?

I recently started budgeting and making wishlists/goal-oriented shopping lists with things in mind that I need to complete my wardrobe. Plus, to reward myself for good saving, I decided once I reach the amount of 'X' euros on my saving account, I'm gonna save some more so I can buy one designer bag in a couple of months. The amount 'X' does not get touched, I will continue saving afterwards until amount 'Y' before splashing out again and so on.
I'm not completely free of impulse shopping, but it has gotten a lot better than in the past.

What not buying a designer bag yet taught me: I have been talking/ thinking of getting a designer bag (always with some very specific bags in mind!) on and off for I think two years or more now. The funny thing is, my thoughts always revolve around the same bags in neutral colours, to use as a daily bag. This is what finally made me decide: it's a wish you had for a long time. Maybe it's justified to shell out the $$$ and not care what others may think.
But I have to think some more about what bag to finally get!
