How are your Swift Bags aging?

Do u baby your bags? If i have such light color bag in swift, it sure will have a "rock and roll" look. HAHA

I agree, colors look so nice in swift but I definitely don’t baby my bags and can’t imagine I would keep a swift Birkin looking this nice. I love your description, “rock and roll”, what a perfect description of the slouch and scuffed corners I am imaginjng haha!

Your post is so helpful here! I am thinking about getting a B30 in swift and am amazed at how great yours looks despite being 8 years old. Can I ask how floppy it is when you take out the insert? Thanks.

Sorry it took a while. Ready to be amazed? :)

I really think storage is the key to keeping the bag's shape. I store the bag upright and stuff it with air paper and insert.

I don't baby them at all. I just use them with caution, if that makes sense. If you can see one of the handles is starting to bend outward from the way I show it 'rough love' when holding the bag in the crook of my arm, you know, when the handles twist as your body moves :) but I really love swift. More than my togo and clemence bags.

Thank you very much for this response. Your bag looks fantastic and pert without the insert. I have been storing my bags on their backs, so I appreciate the tip that you store yours upright stuffed with insert and the air cells.

Thanks! I only have Swift in a Kelly Pochette, so was wondering/worried about the degree of slouching to expect in a B30. Of course I’ve read through the threads
It seems to vary from puddling leather and bulges in the leather from stretching in the worst cases to some bags maintaining structure very well.
Perhaps only using a lighter load inside and usinf a bag organizer from the beginning will be the trick.

Not to distrust anything that SAs say but I don't think Swift it not thinner or thicker now, H craftspeople select a piece of leather according to the item they will make.

I have a 10 years old Travel Web is 45cm and I also have a almost 4 yo Swift Plume 32, both look new. No scuffed corners, no bulges. Both are made from thick leather (2008 and 2014). I tried a Medor Clutch in Swift before Christmas and the Swift used was naturally thinner, but then no way could someone roll-up a Medor clutch made from Swift of the same thickness as the leather used for either the Web or Plume, of course it has to be finer. That's not a reflection of quality but fit for purpose. If someone is commenting in thin/thick leathers from clutches and SLGs to big bags of course there are differences, just as there would be with any types of leather.

I've only bought the Web recently so don't know how often it's been used in its past but it's a travel bag and since I've had it it's done thousands of miles and been used for work. It's been raining, snowing, freezing...There is no time and no way to baby a large bag for work and/or travel. The way the leather works on this bag is a bit like thick Clemence, it undulates like a wobble board but doesn't puddle as in a relax.

The Plume holds it shape due to the way the model is constructed, I see Box versions looking for more more saggy. Perhaps that's because Box leather from some eras tends to be thinner or is more shiny or the bags are so much older or whatever. I store my bag, in a dustbag, stuffed but upright with the handles upwards to stop 'smile' marks (B handles will stay upright anyway). I'd prefer to store the Plume on its side but then I'd need to keep it in its box and with me that means not so handy so I wouldn't use it as often. The next time I carry it I'll take a pic.

Swift leather undulates like Clemence but can hold it's shape depending on the model. I'm sure a Birkin would be made with wonderful thick leather, but the whole nature of a B is a casual tote. A 30 will stay looking more structured than a 35 but the B (a cut down version of an HAC) was designed to look casual. With Swift you should have a fine and smart look with the relaxed B style, best combo.

This is so chic! How much do you carry in it, and does it get heavy? I love the look of this bag but I am so weight sensitive.

It's amazing. The outer pocket comes in useful and unlike the Travel Bolide it has an inside pocket and leather 3/4 down the sides (anyone who has a TB let me know if I'm wrong). A very versatile bag.

I carry either:
Weekend away type stuff including usual (some decanted) toiletries
or
Long day out including change of clothes
or
Work things including folders, pencil case, rolled umbrella, cardigan etc. Great for when I want to combine my briefcase and handbag
but
I never carry a laptop in it as my LT is heavy.

I cannot lie though, pretty sure t was designed to be carried by a guy (judging by the choices of colours it came in). With contents it can obviously be heavy as a bag of this size would be (unless it was canvas or nylon). No way as heavy as even a 40 Birkin though. Strangely it doesn't look too big on me (I'm 5'5") perhaps because of the short handles and wedge shape.

PT this is excellent advice and I really appreciate you taking the time to write it out, and to share from your own personal experience. Your Web is so gorgeous by the way! WG I agree that a Birkin is not supposed to be a formal bag :-) so I actually don’t mind a little slouching, but sometimes Swift ends up with these distortion marks in the leather, similar to what you’ll see in box leather sometimes (hard to describe but it looks like items were pressed into the leather and got stretched out in only some areas). I am hoping to avoid this look to be honest, so that’s why was wondering if it somewhat inevitable if I don’t baby my bags at all or if it can be mitigated with the use of a bag liner. I did end up going with a different bag for now, so luckily I can research this for a little while before pulling the trigger at the next opportunity.

It sounds like a fabulous bag, PT. It's really good looking and that leather is TDF. [emoji173]️

I think smoother leathers often show any blemishes more than more heavily grained, you're right reinvention is best. As I say, I store my Plume with the handles up, away from the body, and yes I would probably do the same if it were Box or Tdlkt.

Congratulations on your new bag, I'm sure it's wonderful. I'm happy to help you consider perhaps a larger Swift bag in the future.

Thank you! I am also so happy/grateful (?) to find out that I have been storing my bags incorrectly on their backs instead of stuffed and upright. I figured storing on the back would help with less slouching due to gravity, but maybe storing on the back creates more bulges?

I think it's different for different models/leather. I know we're not supposed to keep them in their boxes for any length of time and out of their boxes I have to store upright. Some SAs also say, stuff and hang by the handles but...surely that wouldn't be good for most bags, how to get one off without the rail collapsing, would have to be a really thick rail, how would dust-bags stay put? I just store as well as I can.

and sorry I meant 'prevention' of course not 'reinvention' ha ha
