How are your Swift Bags aging?

This thread has gotten even better since I last read it!

I think I need to re-think the swift Lindy, since I'm primariy wanting it for a bag I can schlepp arond when I'm being a mummy (or MOMMY)!
This is what I'm reconsidering now... Did you ever get a swift L as a mama bag?

The leathers are very similar but not exactly the same - both smooth finished and soft. I believe Gulliver wears better than swift. And yes, avoid knocking the sides of the bag... I know several people have reported that their swift bags have worn very well and some, like me, have had the opposite experience.
Oh sorry to hear this! What kind of bad experiences did you have with swift?

Great thread...I too wonder how it ages....I have a swift Lindy from 2007. I don't think I would want another bag in swift though...too smoochy
Do you like your swift Lindy? I'd love to see how it's held up if you still have it? Might you share photos? I'm thinking of how corners do on a swift L since I'm careful-ish (but not precious) with my bags.

I have a toolbox 26 in swift that I’ve had for 3 years already. I use it quite a lot and the leather is not delicate at all. My son spilled water on it at one point and I just wiped it and looks like nothing happened. Color is also very saturated in swift.
I’ve started to love swift because of my toolbox, much so that I also bought plume, bolides and jiges in swift.
Thanks for sharing this, I was worried about kids/liquids and swift!

Hi everyone  Looking for some advice on here re: cleaning swift leather. Apologies in advance if this was already answered but I couldn't find anything through the search bar.

How do you all clean your swift bags in the event you get a little mark/splatter of something on it? I'm usually very careful when wearing my bags but noticed I got a tiny mark on my swift C18. I was able to gently rub it off with a clean dry q tip but not sure if that's the way to handle it in the future.

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I would post this question on Docrides thread-she is the guru for hermes leather upkeep and cleaning advice

I'm a total lurker and own only two Hermes items so I don't chime in often...but when I saw this thread, I HAD to temporarily de-lurk!

I have a 21-year old (1989) Rouge H 40-cm swift (gulliver? sorry, i'm not ultra Hermès educated!) birkin with ghw. I live in a cold climate -- snow, sleet, ice, temperatures below zero in the winter months -- and I use it every day and everywhere in the city (public transportation, shopping, travelling, etc.). It sits on the floor when it has to and I don't think twice about it. It's faced the "winter elements" regularly (although I wipe off the moisture when I get indoors). It's even been to five continents and held up amazingly well. No slouching as of yet...

To give you an idea, I'm not a bag "collector". I personally don't see the point of an extensive bag collection -- it doesn't fit my lifestyle or money-spending strategy (I'd rather travel than get another bag) -- so my birkin is the only "handbag" I own. When I purchased it, the idea was "I will spend a high amount once on the perfect bag and use it to death!"

Well, the corners are a bit scuffed and there is some "normal" wear and tear (i.e. scratches), but i have to say that it's the absolute best investment I've ever made. It's functional, classic and all-around fabulous...and looks much newer than even half it's age! I can't speak for other Hermès leathers, which may hold up just as well, but I wouldn't hesitate to get a swift and plan for the "long term"!

Hope this is helpful!
Hi Persephone !
I'm bumping this message 11 years layer, as I see you keep visiting tpf.
May I ask you for a picture of your red B40 ? Or have you finally used it to death in the meantime ? I'm fascinated by the fact of owning a single bag for years... And in swift interests me even more.

I have a Swift Birkin 35 J stamp (I think) and with Barenia and Box it's my favourite H leather. I LOOVE it's buttery softness to the touch and I LOOVE slouchy bags, so what else can I say?!?

I think Swift is a resilient leather and can withstand just about anything; I'm careful with my bags but I don't baby them, after all, they are made to be used and enjoyed!!!

I placed 2 special orders for Swift Birkins last month: it does take longer to SO a Swift Birkin compared to Togo or Clemence or Epsom, (I waited 2 1/2 years for one) but they arrive eventually.

Here's my Havanne B 35:
May I ask you how long your 2 SOs took to be delivered ?
I put an SO for a Swift B very recently and am trying to guess how long it might take.

I only remember that one took about 2 1/2 years, I had given up on it and then one day it arrived. I honestly don't remember how long the other one took but maybe a bit less. All this was a long time ago, maybe timings have changed since, I hope so!

Hello,
I am thinking to purchase a Bolide in either 27 (Jonathon or swift) or 31 (Clemence).
I am not sure if I will like swift and how it ages down the road but then bolide 31 weight might be too much for me.
This thread discusses how Swift ages, so hopefully it'll be helpful to you. :)

@Lala-purse, I think swift will age nicely in a 27 bolide. A 27 bolide will hold its shape more than a 31 bolide or a swift 30B. The issue IMO is whether you want the smooth swift leather or the pebbly clemence.

My vintage 2002 or 2007, I forget which, gold swift. 30B, phw brushed by @docride is wonderful, slouchy, lush, relaxed . I’ve posted it above, but I realized I didn’t show/compare it to my 35 smooth barenia trim II (same color) or vintage Black barenia 30B, brushed phw, weatherized by @docride (no change in texture but she can survive some wet weather)

The gold swift has the same neutral pop of color function in my wardrobe as smooth barenia fauve IMO.

I was touching both to see if I could describe the tactile differences, when DH walked in and asked what I was doing lol. He said, theyre both H cow. i had a barenia HAC years ago (rehomed bc the ghw made me feel like a Ralph Lauren ad). I also think it felt spongier than my black barenia 30B… (which I actually forgot I had bc it smooshed and collapsed behind another bag, whoops) Swift seems a slight bit more textured , but it’s still quite smooth. 30B swift also has some more natural shine and warmer color IRL despite my crappy super matte pics below. The smooth barenia trim is less shinyIRL too. . I chalk it up to issues with my ohotography skills

@Christofle, thank you! @docride is a genius! It, and the rest of us, are like fine wine

This K25 is one year old and still looks as fine today as she was a year ago. For some unexplainable reason she is a joy to use. It’s probably a combination of colour, lightness and buttery soft texture.

However…a word of caution for non-twilly on handle people - l noticed scuff marks where the hooks meet the handle. The friction must have caused it.
I had stopped using twillys for about a few months now. It was grey when l saw it and tried to rub it off with Lexol. I think it made it worse. Oh well, l have to go back to twillys now. Any tips if this can be fixed? It’s minor but still

Looks like a scuff now. I would ask H to do a touch-up when you decide to do a spa.

Howdy!

I managed to score for a pretty great deal, this B30 in Turquoise Swift leather w/ Palladium hardware from 2007 I believe.

It does have one small scratch but otherwise looks like it's in pretty decent shape. Reading a lot about it the swift leather appears that it may be on the more delicate side... I only have a togo at the moment and love the durability.

I'm looking for a bag that isn't going to need babying.

Does anyone had photos of their aged swift?
If you search through this thread, you'll likely find what you're looking for. ;)
