kelly_birkin - I tend to jump around a bit when it comes to bags - but I transfer my H accessories each time I change up. Anyhoo, within the last week or two, I have carried Coach, Longchamp, Lancel, and Louis Vuitton.

BlueGenes - So glad you found an SA you want to work with. :yahoo: Have fun with those new twillies and your new wallet.

ChocoGrace - One bag per year. Holy cowabunga!!! How do you do it? If I see a bag I like the rational part of my brain starts a slow meltdown. DH says it's not slow enough. :graucho:

candace117 - I know this is the H forum, but what are you going to get at LV? Was in the PDX over the weekend. Had to be dragged from the boutique. You guys are so lucky to have a boutique and no sales tax.

purly - Glad to see you are training your DH early on. If you are going to give him a child and boobies, you definitely deserve something special for yourself. All jokes aside, you can do it. If you have the good sense to talk about it, you can do it for sure.

And I for some reason feel like it's either children or a Birkin.

Am I alone in this? Is the choice really children or a Birkin? Or am I making it out to be a bigger decision than it is? I'm sure I could do both, probably. But the psychology of it worries me -- it's like I'm doubting the concept of having children by focusing my attention on the concept of owning a Birkin.

So you could get a nice Birkin for under or around 10K.
The average cost in the US of raising ONE child from cradle through college is $200K.

So, it seems like, if you are young and healthy -- if you want the Birkin, go for it, then start saving for having a family. Amortized over your lifetime, in cost per wear, the bag is going to be paying you to carry it if you wear it every day for the next 60 years.

But I can justify any H purchase!

I don't think you have to give up kids for the bag. The bag is oh so much cheaper than kids.

I agree with the others. You could get the birkin first because it won't cost anything in the longrun, and it's timeless, not something trendy that you will get sick of looking at in a year.

I'm on the order list for a birkin... I asked for a vert anis 35 cm togo. They told me that before the list is sent to France, I should come by and finalize it (as in - I still have a chance to change my mind about the colour / size / etc). I'm thinking I wanna go back and have a look at their leather swatches. I wonder if fushia or rose shocking are available these days? I don't recall seeing them in their leather swatches?

As for other brands that we wear. I have several louis vuittons, versace, marc jacobs, lulu guinness (how do they spell that? lol), dior, kathy von zeeland, gucci, bonia (singaporean brand i believe), coach ... a bunch of other brands but I can't seem to remember. For a while I had a special love for my LVs only. I don't own a Chanel (though I've always wanted to) but now that I have a thing for Hermes I keep thinking Chanel can wait...

purly, having children or buying a Birkin?
I don't feel like that's a choice
that should even be a factor.
I'm not comfortable answering that question.
You and your husband have to do what is right for
your situation. I see the kids as human - and the bags,
as beautiful as they are, are just material things.

BlueGenes, 2012! ;) *LOL* I plan on saving,
saving, and saving, while I remain realistic
to what is going on in my life. I'm sure I'll
be able to get a wallet, scarf, or something like
that before the BIG Bolide reveal. :)

bisousx, here's a 'dumb' question - are all Chanel
bags done in the quilted styling?

valencia and Dhalia, good bag choices. :)

Kelly_Birkin: Thank you! You reckon I should ask about the fucshia / rose shocking anyway even they don't have their swatches? I do love hot pink in all shapes and forms, I just didn't ask for it previously bc I didn't think they had it...

As for the Chanel bags. I'm pretty sure my mum has a non-quilted. But I could be wrong (or misunderstood what you mean by quilted?).

Kelly Birkin, not all Chanel bags are quilted. The style I mentioned wanting, the sharpei line...is not quilted. It's a very soft lambskin and they ruch the sides of the bags to make it squish down and look wrinkly like a sharpei dog :D So cute!!!! :D Anyway, yeah, not all their bags are quilted :D

Valencia, when I can get it, I want a damier papillon 30 :D Someday, someday.

Kelly_Birkin, you sound so much more practical than me! :shame: My savings are divided into two parts: maybe 1/3 of the savings goes for some undefined future, and then 2/3 goes toward bags! But it sounds like when you finally get your bolide (what color/leather combo, btw?) you'll have both your H and your financial security. I'm looking forward to your 2012 reveal!

 I love sharpei. I almost bought one instead of my jumbo.

I always come back to read this thread. I find it so comforting. I wish I could get everything I want but I don´t really mind waiting and reading your thoughts makes waiting even easier. I know I´m not alone.

Dhalia, the quilted design is a Chanel signature. I can't describe it, but if you have an old-fashioned quilt, hence the name, you can see these puffy, diamond like shapes within each section. Picture that on
a handbag. I don't know if this is a real Chanel or not, but I just wanted to show you what quilting is, because my description wasn't the best. ;)

candace, Thanks. That's good to know. :)

BlueGenes, well, I was overestimating my reveal
date to be partly funny. :) I want raisin, but by the
time I can get a raisin anything, it will be discontinued.
But I would consider Blue Jean or Gold too.
And I want a rigide style, not the floppy mou.

LOL, I guess I believed that because at one point I was planning for a 2012 reveal, too - can you believe I'm buying H things now when I'm actually starting law school this fall and having to pay private school tuition? I'm lucky that my job this previous year was ridiculously overpaid, and that there are a few gifts/items that I can sell that can fund law school for 3 years, but I also thought any additional spending would be out of line and that I'd get my dream H bag at least a year AFTER graduating in 2011. But then I recalculated for a more conservative lifestyle (priorities, you know) because I was determined to own one sooner rather than later. Some might think it's silly, because I won't really be carrying my bags anywhere fancy; most of the time I just like to have them out at home where I can see/touch them/examine them. I do feel slightly guilty because I feel like I should be putting more away towards my future, blah blah blah. But just seeing/touching the leather and silk makes me feel so inordinately happy, it's worth it.

And Eulalia, you're definitely not alone. I'm so glad this thread exists, too.

I think this thread is a wonderful idea:tup:..I've been lusting for an Hermes Birkin bag since I was 12 years old:girlsigh:!!! I'm almost 25 now, and no Birkin in sight:crybaby:.Now, if I stop buying all these designer clothes, shoes, and bags, and start saving my wish will come true..Or maybe price charming will come in a carriage carrying a croc birkin:cloud9:

Hi all!

I am new new new here and am obsessing about getting a Birkin. I am leary of resellers and have not yet tried my luck at any Hermes stores. My main issues are 1)finding a genuine bag and 2)convincing my husband that I have not actually gone bats. He thinks only a complete idiot would pay that kind of money for a purse. Even the leather bags are nutso to him.

I'd LOVE a smaller leather neutral like Etaupe or white (oooh white ostrich....so cool) but over the top would be one of the purplish pinks.

I am so new I don't even know all the color names. I need to brush up or else go into Hermes looking like a complete idiot and not even leaving with a twilly! HA!

ShellTay: Welcome! Do check the reference section, it is very informative. If anything, it'll give you a better idea of what you're looking for. My experience at Hermes stores has been very pleasant so far, so I do suggest that you go there first. Good luck!
