My job paid enough to indulge at the age of 25. I didn't have time to do anything but work, though. When I managed to have an hour to get out maybe once a month, went shopping and spent a few thousand dollars at once for clothes. Some of my colleagues bought an estate in a year. I should have bought H bags instead of clothes, which all got vintage and too tight by now, lol. I changed my job later that is more enjoyable but pays less.

19 years old and a spoiled brat here. In some respects.

I wish my parents loved me enough to buy me a Lamborghini though. The 2001 Volvo station wagon I have is NOT THE BUSINESS!

@Crazyforhermes - Alot of young adults are in the city, for example, a young hermes lover in london, you can save a lot of money by NOT having a car, but travelling by bus/tube and maybe cab. You dont have to pay parking, congestion charge or fuel so imho I would rather have H than vehicle.

I think it really depends....in my family all the women had Hermes bags and I just thought that's what you carried as an adult woman so I never wasted money on trendy bags that weren't things I could carry long term. I got my first Birkin as a high school graduation present when I was 17 but it was a hand-me-down from my Mom. I bought a Birkin on my own for the first time when I was 18 thanks to a paid internship and having very few bills while in college. I'm now 24 and I invest wisely and save carefully and allow myself a certain number of trips to H per month and don't abuse my limit...even if my SA calls with something that I really, really want.

A friend of mine from college put herself on a savings plan over two years where she had a bit of her paycheck direct deposited into a separate account before she even got the rest of her check which allowed her to save without really feeling the pain of doing it. Of course that was all psychological for her but it worked and she now has her bag. Each situation was different though. She's a teacher at a private school so saving up takes longer for her than for someone who, say, works in business or what have you.

I think when you're young people assume you're just wasting your pay or your parents are buying all of your nice things but it is possible to be wise with money at a young age and also to have parents involved without being spoiled.

What I admire is that regardless of origin, these ladies learned to appreciate such fine craftsmanship at a very young age and subsequently diverted part of their hard earned chash to continue the tradition.

And hopefully Hermès, and a few others, will not loose too much of their heritage, so that young ladies will still have something to continue their part of tradition.
Let's hope that the company's growth will not ruin everything. I am sorry to bring out this topic once again, but it is a major concern these days.

I got my first birkin or hac when I was 17 / 18. I'm 19 now. My parents did not pay anything for my bags. Not even a penny. I'm kind of glad that they allowed me to work for things that I want. I work and live at home.

I am 18 and even though I don't have my Kelly and Lindy yet I will have in a few weeks. I want to get it in Paris I'll be there next month:D. I babysit, give computer classes to senior citizens, and I do ALOT of Ebay. Last year I purchased a Rolex without any help from my single mother. The trip to Paris is being completely payed by me except for airfare which my mom gave me from her credit card miles. She is against me buying such an expensive bag for my age, but she understands that it's my money and I worked REALLY hard for it and she is proud. All my expensive bags with the except of one were purchased by me. With my money. I really proud of it. I wouldn't want my mom to pay for my first Hermes bag because it's something I have been wanting for years so I want to make it special and pay for it. I have been saving for years!

Each and every case is different from others. I was myself (at the time) described by others as a spoilt brat even if I earned my money myself, and that was only because I loved fashion, couture, and I indulged in the purchase of designer items with my hard earned money.
Sometimes it came to my mind that I was being a bit spoilt anyway, because I had some help in the basics, so, who knows, maybe even if we don't feel like we are spoilt, it is better to always keep an eye open for the downsides, and understand that we may be partly spoilt brats, even if this doesn't make us stupid or selfish.

yes, trama! I am definitely spoilt to a certain extent, but I do scrub my own toilet... :p there are others out there without a birkin but dont do any housework. So, I guess we are all spoilt in different ways. But I have to say, H has helped me save money in the long run, I no longer feel any lust towards bags because most of them just simply don't have the same quality as H. So I only select and buy, which in turn makes me spend less than my peers... which I'm sure has been a common refrain amongst the others here!!

I am pretty sure this sort of thread has been started a lot, if you do a search OP there are lots like this. Also there is the 'waiting/ saving for my hermes' thread which was started by razorbackbelle, HTH.

My parents don't buy or fund my bags, but without living from home whilst studying I wouldn't be able to afford it. I have virtually no outgoings other than my car and phone bill, I work part time and save to buy as my hobby. I guess I feel like it will all come to an end or trickle down when I move out so I need to make the most of it now. I only have one H bag and it's a gorgeous vintage kelly that I love to death I actually paid for it by money I won in a contest for my work, So without my studies I wouldn't have been able to afford my kelly.

I would love a birkin too but they are so SOOO expensive and as a 21 year old I just can't justify any more than 3k on a bag but I hope to own on before my thirties. I also am at an age that I want to save a travel the world a bit I have a decent amount of designer stuff not overflowing but ample. I think I will only splurge on pieces i NEED to have and save for a rainy day from now on.

Hi, I am a SAHM, just crossed 35, used to work earlier, but quit couple of years ago. DH is very sweet and supports my slowly growing addiction for this brand... After having worked and supported the family in making sure that we have paid off all loans, mortagages, collecting jewellery and other branded things, having built a comfortable life together, trying to save to for retirement, my DH is of the opinion that I would soon be ready to be a proud owner of an H bag...so having said that, he being the constant finance planner we did agree on having set aside some money every month for my first H bag fund...I dont think I would ever want to own a birkin as I dont think it is the kind of style I would wear on a daily basis and would not suit my lifestyle, I am more of a Kelly or a Bolide person, so I think my first H bag would be one of the 2 styles, based on all the vast and useful info that is available on this forum.
