I am going to Hermes store in Boston to get my vintage Hermès handbag refurnished mostly to authenticate it? I heard that the best way to authenticate a Hermès bag is to take it to the store if the SA accepts it that means it's authenticate. I wonder if they would take a 70's Hermès for refurbishment. Any idea how much will it cost? Thanks.

Hi Andrea, welcome to tPF! Hermes will refurbish any authentic H bag, provided it has not been treated (dyed, waterproofed etc.) by anyone outside of Hermes. The age of the bag does not matter. And yes, sending a bag to spa is a way to authenticate it. However, the store SA may not say the bag is authentic -- they will send it out, and the craftsperson who will refurbish it will either accept the bag (if it's authentic) or will refuse it if it's not. The SAs are not allowed to authenticate. HTH!

I have had a 1962 Kelly sent to the spa, it had to go to France from Australia.

Do this at your own risk if you're hoping to authenticate it. Ive heard stories of them destroying fakes.

Not necessarily. the sales person might not be knowledgable enough to determine authenticity. Or not want to put themselves in that position. They might send it on to the crafts person and wait for judgment.

Hello!

I am hoping that maybe someone can help me?
I recently purchased an Hermes item from ebay, and when I received it I was disappointed to find there were a few broken stitches at the top of the item. The seller is reputable, so I was surprised (and disappointed!) to find they failed to mention this significant issue. While there is only 1 or 2 broken stitches, they are in a significant location and the leather WILL begin to separate in a very short time (and after just a few uses of the item).

That being said, I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me estimate the cost of repair? I do not live near an H boutique, so I would have to mail it in to get an estimate. I am not wanting to increase costs for the seller or myself, yet at the same time had the seller mentioned this in the listing I would not have purchased it in the first place!

I have opened a case with the seller -- with the option being to return for a full refund (I have also asked to be reimbursed for return shipping, since it was not my fault the seller failed to mention this in the listing). But since I like the item, I am wondering if (s)he were to reimburse me for the cost of the repairs it may be worth the hassle to get it repaired just so I can keep the item.

In all fairness to the seller, I do not want to mention what the item is because then it would be easy to determine the seller's identity. This is for an accessory, not a handbag, so the items' construction is very simple and the repair seems to be strightforward. But, I would hate for the cost of the repairs to exceed the cost of the item!

Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Dagny

You could call the store to get a price quote. Obviously it might change once they get it in their hands, but they could give you a ballpark estimate for restitching that specific accessory.

I had my red Birkin sent in for a Spa & the top & sides RE stitched & the cost was around £450 but there was a lot of stitching so an accessory won't cost too much.
Thanks so much! :smile1:

Thank you so much. Since I don't live near a boutique, i was not sure if they would give me a quote. But it may be worth a try.

Call the store and inquire. Also repair takes time so you will be apart from your bag for awhile.

Yes, being apart from my new purchase would be hard -- especially considering how impatient I am!
