They don't use paint, they use a leather dye. I have had this done twice on the corners of my Cocoan Chèvre Coromandel Kelly over the past 6 1/2 years and it wears very, very well. It was done beautifully - a perfect match so that one truly has to look hard to see the work done.

That's amazing and great to know. 2x in 6.5 years is not bad. I didn't realize they do this, I thought they only covered with polish. Thanks for clarifying.

Just yesterday, I just got a price confirmation/list for repairs on a vintage box kelly. What I found surprising is they mentioned things that could be fixed that were inside the bag, I've heard they don't go inside as it's considered 'private space'. That being said, they stated the following, in CDN$ for some services:

$213 for polishing and cleaning
$790 for handle replacement
$96 for top flap restitch
$28 per one corner reinforce (still stiched but they are loose)
$306 for closure strap replacements
$136 for zipper replace inside
$172 for gusset (side panel) restitch

Interestingly, some of the areas they mention for fixes weren't of concern to me; I didn't outline those as repairs. It was also stated on the repair form that they will endeavor to complete within 8 weeks but it could be longer.

Some of the prices I've listed might be slightly off, I didn't get a hard copy, plus I only opted for a few of the fixes, not all, but I'm certain of the top four. And for the handle replacement, I thought it less expensive to buy a twilly. They also caveat that since the color I have is no longer produced, there might be color differentiations which is why I decided again the closure straps which I think is a really reasonable price. Plus I'd lose the orginal craftman and date stamp.

So can update when I get it back to see about the timeframe of the repairs.

i bought a vintage 1961 black box kelly 33 from a reputable ebay france seller for roughly $1,200 (converted from euro). i put the kelly for a major overhaul at the boutique and specifically made a list of what i would like to be done on the bag. my list was pretty much like yours with an addition of replacing all gold hardware pieces. that was when i learned that hermes doesn't replate (like chanel does), but replace the hardware. my kelly was shipped to san francisco for a price quote and advice whether what i wanted could actually be done (based on the condition of the vintage leather). a week later, i got a phone call giving me a quote of $1,750 and they could do everything i asked. then, my kelly was shipped to paris for the overhaul for 7 weeks. my kelly now looks amazing and they even gave me a new dust bag for free. my total investment here is $2,950 and im keeping the kelly for myself.

Fabulous, your entire overhaul took 7 weeks, that's great news. Even better that you've got great results. Thanks for the details and welcome to TPF :)

thank you. glad to be a new hermes collector. i have the kelly, a jypsiere 31, and 2 bracelets so far.

i'm looking at my kelly thinking that she is even older than me. she has been well used and will be well loved for many more years. following the sa advice, i'm planning to put her in the spa once a year to keep the leather hydrated.

one important thing the sa told me is to remove the plastic protector over the hardware very soon to keep the hardware oxidized equally. otherwise, the hardware can show yellowing underneath the plastic over time (in case of palladium of course). you have seen a lot of bags sold on internet advertise that the plastic protectors are still on the hardware. that is actually not a good practice.

That is AMAZING, Blue Rain! Congrats on your K, it must look fantastic. I am going to re-think vintage bag buying now.

So good to use a rejuvenated bag
Vintage bag workmanship is impeccable

I'm taking the gold B in soon for another spa, so I hope this will hold true, and that this time the spa'd corner coverage will not rub off immediately as it did two years ago ;)

When would you send your bag to Spa? My B is is one year and 5 months old now, used occasionally and has some minor scratches on the corner. I actually don't mind the scratches, but would like to preserve the bag for as long as possible

I don't claim to be an expert here, but my SA seems to be very knowledgable about taking care of H leathers. He advised that if you use the bag on a daily basis, you should send it to the spa once a year to keep the leather hydrated and pH balanced - besides minor repairs for scratches and color transfer.

This is crazy. I dropped my bag off on Wednesday of last week and they just called me today to let me know it's ready. It's only been 5 days (4 since they are closed on Sundays). On one hand, I'm ecstatic as I thought there was a 6-8 week wait. On the other hand, I hope there are no issues. I bought from a reputable reseller and got the bag authenticated prior to purchasing it but of course, now I'm nervous. Is 5 days turnaround odd? This was at Madison......

I'm sure someone has answered this question before, but if I drop my vintage Kelly off in Paris, will they ship the bag to me? Has anyone done this before. What's the time frame? Your experience? Thanks.

Madison has a craftsperson, so it could have happened fast. I had a wallet returned with cleaning AND new hardware in a week...I am sure your bag is fine and certainly authentic - you would have gotten a different call otherwise :hugs:

Thank you QuelleFromage!!! I will stop by the store on Friday to pick it up. My one consolation is that they did tell me that the spa has slowed down since the Winter so hopefully this is just a result of a lower volume of bags being brought in.

I thought I would post my latest spa experience here as it is quite uplifting.

To date I have only use the spa for stitching and resin repairs as I am able to clean bags myself. However, I was given a 40 Birkin by a friend and she wanted me to find a new home for it. Well, the turn lock had broken off and was missing, one of the strap latches was completely missing and the rest of the hardware had corroded. Other than that the buffalo leather was immaculate. I prepared my friend for a hefty bill just to get it into a saleable condition. Well, last week I got a call saying that H Paris deemed the hardware defective and they were replacing it free of charge. They were also replacing both straps. As the leather was in such good condition the hardware had to have been faulty for it to break and corrode. I never even considered that would be an option.

Free of charge at Hermes?!!! I still can't believe it. Oh, and they said it would be cleaned FOC too.

I was feeling so lucky I popped into H.com to see if a Birkin was sitting in my basket......not that lucky:)
