Just yesterday, I just got a price confirmation/list for repairs on a vintage box kelly. What I found surprising is they mentioned things that could be fixed that were inside the bag, I've heard they don't go inside as it's considered 'private space'. That being said, they stated the following, in CDN$ for some services:

$213 for polishing and cleaning
$790 for handle replacement
$96 for top flap restitch
$28 per one corner reinforce (still stiched but they are loose)
$306 for closure strap replacements
$136 for zipper replace inside
$172 for gusset (side panel) restitch

Interestingly, some of the areas they mention for fixes weren't of concern to me; I didn't outline those as repairs. It was also stated on the repair form that they will endeavor to complete within 8 weeks but it could be longer.

Some of the prices I've listed might be slightly off, I didn't get a hard copy, plus I only opted for a few of the fixes, not all, but I'm certain of the top four. And for the handle replacement, I thought it less expensive to buy a twilly. They also caveat that since the color I have is no longer produced, there might be color differentiations which is why I decided again the closure straps which I think is a really reasonable price. Plus I'd lose the orginal craftman and date stamp.

So can update when I get it back to see about the timeframe of the repairs.

Excellent reference thank you.
$136 for a zipper.... Must be very special zipper I guess.

Wow this is amazing information! Thank you so much for taking the time to list this! :-)

an invoice a friend of mine has paid in france in january.

kelly handle replacement: euro 372;
kelly re-stitching entirely: euro 173;
kelly 2 holes in corners fixed: euro 127.

the evelyn reparation I'm not sure about, but I think it has to do with hardware.

very interested in the evelyne rep.... If they don't go inside the bag, this then means no removal of stain at the bottom of an evelyne right?

as far as what I usually read here, they wouldn't do it if it's an inside stain.
but note that here it says «remp», which should stay for «remplacement» and not «rep» which could instead mean «réparation».
I try to remember but I think she told me it was an hardware substitution, for the evelyne.
what surprises me is the difference in price for a handle replacement between usa and europe: it's almost double!

This is great - thank you! Does "top flap restitch" refer to a complete replacement of stitching for the top flap? Is that per inch? LOL. That sounds.......inexpensive.....a word I don't ever associate with Hermes. :)

I have a BJ Kelly that has discolored flap and strap stitching from a spill. I've been thinking of restitching it but was put off by the probable cost. This doesn't sound too bad.

plastic-fish, thanks for this valuable information! I better start using my twillys after seeing the cost of a handle repair!

When I brought in the kelly, my main focus was the top flap. My SA told me that they would restitch the entire top, that they can't restitch one section. I'm like you, I thought that was quite...inexpensive...as well. I was equally shocked at the mere $28 for a corner repair. While the stitching is still intact, it's loose. I'm presuming there will be a stitch added there but I'm not sure. And for the top flap, my SA was very clear that they can't just fix the one spot without removing all existing stitching however that sounds like that might be the case with the corner. I suppose I'll see when it's back, I should be able to see if it was only patch stitched or fully redone.

By the way, when I got the initial call that my price request was complete, she told me it was $1790 - I nearly fell off my chair thinking 'the top flap restitch is nearly $1800 CDN?!' But when I went in and saw the laundry list of repairs, my heart slowed down and I chose the ones that I felt were important. As I said, I'll be back when my bag comes in and can tell you if it's a full restitch or just patched. Hopefully 8 weeks will go by quickly...

plastic-fish - thank you for posting the price list. It was very vert helpful!!

I do have another question for all you H experts re: Hermes colorists....

I sent my bag to H Madison and it had terrible corner ware. Basically, all the leather was completely rubbed off. When I got the bag back, it looked amazing, almost as if the leather was painted so that the corners blended in perfectly with the rest of the bag although the top skin was missing. I'm not sure if it will rub off as I have not taken the bag out yet but it actually looks like they painted the leather with permanent paint as opposed to rubbing polish on it.

I brought another bag to Hermes - Swift/Gulliver with black corners. Absolutely terrible and quite frankly, I didn't think they would be able to fix it. It also had some scratches all around and was dull. The woman who took the bag told me not to worry, as the bag would look good as new once it was done as they had an excellent colorist in-house that could work miracles.

My question is, does this colorist use permanent "paint" or do they recolor with a polish that rubs off? My understanding is that when H fixes rubbed corners, it eventually wears off but honestly the bag that was returned to me looked like it might be a permanent fix and the bag I just turned in had corners that were basically destroyed. I can't imagine how they could fix it temporarily. Any thoughts?

In my experience (I have a B with very rubbed corners) the touch-up they use barely lasts a few weeks. i would be so excited if there is a way to permanently cover corner rub...I don't mind the texture nearly as much as the color loss!

Thanks! Maybe I'm too optimistic. I guess I will have to take the bag I just received out a couple of times and see what happens.

They don't use paint, they use a leather dye. I have had this done twice on the corners of my Cocoan Chèvre Coromandel Kelly over the past 6 1/2 years and it wears very, very well. It was done beautifully - a perfect match so that one truly has to look hard to see the work done.
