Hermes spa pricing

I dropped off my 1957 Kelly to the Spa in Geneva and was quoted 1400 CHF (1500$) for a clean, having the handle re-stitched, the metal plates changed, the inside pocket resewn, and the leather fob changed. The bag is worn but is not THAT damaged.

I'm really disapointed to have been quoted such a high price. Would it be that expensive if I took it to another Hermes boutique, i.e. not in Switzerland!?

Many thanks!!

The price sounds about right to me, considering you are replacing hardware and doing restitching. A new clochette alone usually goes for about $250-300, as far as I know. Cleaning on its own can be as much as $300.

That actually sounds very reasonable to me considering the amount of work they are doing.

Yes I suppose so. But the handle restitiching alone would cost 300$ ? And another 300$ for the cleaning? I didn't ask for the hardware to be changed. I can't afford to have it restored at that price.

Any time restitching is involved, it can get expensive. So your quote does not sound unduly high considering what Hermes generally charges for work of this kind.

I do think that (at least in my and it seems several others' experience) H will quote you the maximum they believe the charge will be, which is at least better than doing the reverse. I am always quoted "around $300" for Birkin spa and so far it's always been $175.

Here's a pic of my 10year old baby back from her visit to the Spa

What a beautiful birkin!! Btw what colour is this? Thx

I have a black 40cm kelly retourne from the early 90's. It is a bit dull and the bottom corners have some fading and wear. Can they polish it up and fix the faded corners too?

I took my barenia/toile birkin in for cleaning. It took over six months (which did not surprise or worry me) and I was charged $350. I had never paid more than $150 so this did surprise me. Has anyone experienced this with a non-exotic bag?

just curious if they managed to restore your toile canvas to its original condition (i.e. pristine and white)? I have a 199 toile+courcheval birkin that i'm thinking of sending in... TIA!

I was thinking about purchasing a well use blue-jean Clemence Evelyne, where the color is rubbed off a bit in the corners, and somehow the bag is yellowing. Can the spa fix that and do you think it would be under $200? Tia!
