no apologies needed, no harm done !

I'm a former US citizen living in Europe for so long, I'm just bilingual.

As for buying in france, they are really closer to the Creator... But you may have to ask about hems, pulls, stains, discolorations, previous washing or pressing, whatnot.

But, I have had real beauties, some rare disappointments and 2 fakes in 4 years (unless I missed a subtility in one of them being really a fake). I'm no specialist unfortunately and still need so much your expert advices.

Happy to have found this forum where sharing a passion (or addiction : slippery gangplank) is possible...:heart::heart: to you all.

Yes, I am bilingual too & find bargains on Ebay France but, I find that I am terribly easy going about quality

I like scarves in different colors, designs & am willing to tolerate a little imperfection, as long as the price is right & I do write to the sellers in French

Basically, I am OK with used (vintage) scarves but others are not & I find Ebay France better for vintage than for near-new

Sure, you will find more vintage scarves in France, daughters or granddaughters selling what they find and these are potentially of lower quality. Hermès is almost a household name in France, everyone knows about it and many have one, collectors only having more. As to near-new, this is effectively more hazardous. Question of luck or knowing the seller (not always the big selling ones).

Here again we have a possible problem with shipping fees : if you obtain a good one at more or less 160 euros, beware of the additional s&h for registered "colissimo".
I have found an alternative, if the seller is ok with this, that is by ordinary registered mail (letter) in a bubble envelope at one third of the tarif and secure since it requires a signature and has a number.
As for ebay restricting shipment outside of France, there is an unwritten law saying that you cannot send out of the country of origin possibly more than one H a month. Or else, it is the seller that has mentioned "livraison en France Metropolitaine" and you cannot get past ebay saying you cannot bid.
This can be bypassed by asking the seller to change his ad, I had this with a charming Corsican who almost pulled her hair out to change the mentions to selling to Europe and leave out livraison to France. We had concluded and no way I could finalize my purchase. Finally she succeeded to change and all went well. It was just a matter of administrative terms in writing.

I must ad that Paypal (speaking for ebay) has decided to ban, in the near future, all selling of H described as "new" which has not passed by the "maison mère" for authentification and clearance. You can imagine what this would mean for sellers, bringing the item to Paris first...

This is a retaliation of the lawsuit and would stop altogether ebay sales of "new" items, at least for H, I dont know about the others but they have told me it would go in the way of "general rule". Too many disputes they cant handle.

Here's hoping this future is not too near, I'm would certainly not be able to go to Paris and all the authentification process (did it once for a fake) to sell some of my loved scarves.

Best of luck in your findings

Seton,

I'm sorry, but I didn't realize that I posted this scarf in the wrong place. It looked OK to me, but I wanted to make sure before paying... thank you so much!

elle tee, I find these three websites very helpful when checking out the designs
(just thought you'd enjoy them too when trying to identify patterns):

http://hermesology.wordpress.com/ (by seton)

I am in the process of moving and suggest that you use www.hermesology.com from now on to find me and it will direct you to the right URL. The database on wordpress will close soon.

btw, i just had a fantastic result from my local dry cleaners ($25) on some mysterious pindot spots (i was afraid it could be mildew or rust???) and random greasy thumbprints. the scarf looks like new, and they absolutely knew/had experience with Hermes scarves/hems...
if anyone is worried that their own dry cleaner isn't up to the task, i'd be happy to recommend this one:
Brown's Cleaners
Santa Monica, CA
p.s. i didn't ask for folds

Seton, I certainly wish you the best in your moving . I was so happy to find such a competent "scarfologist" and am confused now, where can I post my questions, like for example were there two different backgrounds for the black "voiles de lumière", two are selling completely black, another with white background and black border ? Is this possible and where could I post this ? I dont want to annoy you but where else to find this competence ?
Sorry for pestering you this way, just tell me where it is the most appropriate.

Thanks and thanks again for all your dedication. :flowers::heart:

This thread will continue to be open and you can still post such questions here.

The Scarfologist is Rose on this forum. I am just "seton".

as for Voiles de Lumiere, yes, there are two black colorways. One is black/white. The other is black/black background.

can you please help in authenticating this? i realize the seller is an unknown. i am the person who offered him the additional details that would be necessary, and he revised his description, attributing the additional text to an Hermes "collector" LOL I never represented myself that way! I have like less than 10 scarves and I don't know diddley about 'em!!!
so anyway, here it is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150311029556
p.s. secret: i would like to buy it for a friend who's been looking for this particular one.
thanks!
