here's a wierd color: quetsche? Talk about brown being close to purple! If you search on brown or purple both these scarves come up credit: Hermès (from the current online store)

In this one the brown is Marron:

Don't like this so much flat, but I bet it ties nicely! Wish they had switched out the corner circles so on the diagonal you would have one of each instead of two of more or less the same design. That said, I guess it may have something to do with how the "game" is played.

And I got this when I searched on brown: tabac, bleuté gris, marine credit: Hermès online

I guess this would look good with grey? A little ho-hum I think

Must violently disagree LOL the CHAMPIGNONS does not count as brown. It is in the Taupe category, but not Brown.
Brown has to be darker - let me get out my photo of a REAL BROWN CHAMPIGNONS . I spent years finding an optimal cw of CHAMPIGNONS - i had to have the original multi color mushrooms not the revised monochrome ones, and I went for dirt brown from ca 1990. Jean Louis Dumas did some chocolate browns in 1980 - 1990s like my mushrooms
Prior to that were two browns. Noisette is very 1970s - hazlenut - a very golden brown. I dont have one from the 1970s but my COMTESSE DE SEGUR 1980s looks noisette on balance due to the cornucopeia of browns and golds.
The early brown was that in my COURBETTES from the 1960s. An indescribable color, dark, dull, almost camouflage khaki - definitely from the dull hunting color palettes - you wore your scarf out shooting and were supposed to blend in
Agree that the lighter shades like etoupe are fashionable now, I think of all the lather colors like Tourterelle, Poussiere, Etoupe - all of those non browns LOL I guess they fall in the dreaded beige category
Ah! I forgot that my scarf is supposed to blend in to the hunting landscape! :P

Glad you enjoy this thread, we'll invite all out fox hunting next time
An old mystery ad ... typical of 1950s stuff - from the heyday of Linares and his dead animals - she is holding shotgun shells in her hand and holds a folding leather in the other hand - those folding chairs appear in all the old Hermes catalogs, they sold em by the boatload
Well, if you like shotguns, it will have to be for the next grouse hunt

@marietouchet You have such an amazing collection of...stuff! I wish that you would (sometime when you have, ahem, free time, post a summary of how you have seen the palettes change over time). Your knowledge is obviously extensive, and you have hinted at some of this; I'm intrigued! However, I know it is a lot to ask... :graucho:

Not for a while at least - off to Grand Cayman next week
And I would have to think hard how it might be done ... Contrary to public opinion, I dont own EVERY HS. I have to rely on snaps of many of them, and that is hard ... I was given a huge collection of snaps and horrors, every single one had distorted colors - they were too dark and too blue, all the reds appeared purple for example, useless ... not that my pix are so fabulous either ..
It is almost impossible to discuss colors referring only to one's own scarves, I dont buy certain colors AT ALL - no yellow for me...

Only certain shades of yellow and brown for me - I'm learning from my mistakes :crybaby:
Is that folding stool the kind with a pointed shaft which you stab into the ground, then unfold a tiny seat on top of the pole?
