I’m looking for some advice specific to the Madison store. For context, I’ve l been shopping with the same SA at the Madison store for about five years. I’ve bought various things over the years, mostly shoes and handbags including a couple Evelyns, Halzan, Constance and two Kellys. The SA has always been a bit sporadic responding to my texts / emails, probably answering once every three to four times I reach out. I reach out about once every couple months. Since last fall, I’ve been trying to see if I can get a Constance, pretty much any 24 or mini. We texted a few times last fall but she said there’s “no inventory.” She told me to stay in touch after the new year. I tried to reach out several times this month and she is not responding to my texts at all. I’m not a big pre-spender and only buy select non-leather goods when I see something I really like. Is this recent ghosting from my SA signaling that they no longer want to work with me? Or that my pre-spend is too low? Sometimes I reach out with requests for items I’m interested in (not handbags) and want to come into the store to buy but most of the time those messages get ignored too. Not sure if $1-2k items (shoes, jewelry) just aren’t worth their time?

They really don’t like to leave any discussions on bags in writing because way too many clients are happy to use that as “evidence” and report / write complaints. In store discussions is the way.

Also, maybe you just needed another person to confirm it because it honestly sounds like you know so if that’s the case have this confirmation: I think your prespend is too low. C24 shouldn’t be that hard though; if you want to go in and have a shopping trip I think your SA may be able to give you some hints.

IMO, you should only buy items you love. Full stop.

Agree with @cravin. SAs get hundreds of texts. I would not take it personally bc corporate doesn’t give them time to answer. They have to juggle a minute here and there, and corporate specifically wants them to prioritize walk ins and in store clients. Having said that, an SA may not prioritize a client who is only interested in her list and is likely not to spend otherwise. There are lots of clients who are happy to explore and buy new things.
Or that my pre-spend is too low?
The fact that you don’t get a text back is not directly correlated to your prespend. However, if an SA were to do triage on a huge block of texts, he might pick ones from long standing clients with solid, if not guaranteed spend, who do not ask for items he has to go find. I do however agree with @momoc that your prespend is too low (Relative to others). Your offers are not dependent on your SA alone. Your SA cannot offer you a bag unless he himself is approved for it. And, your SA may not be able to convince his SM that you are the best person for x bag.
Sometimes I reach out with requests for items I’m interested in (not handbags) and want to come into the store to buy but most of the time those messages get ignored too.
This issue has been discussed extensively by many of us, but your SA most likely doesn’t have time to address (or to run back and check) a laundry list of items via text. Even if the SA took the time to respond, they cannot hold items, so they will not be able to wait for you to come in. And, even if you do a charge send, an SM may well prefer those items to go to an in store client who might be coaxed to buying other items too. As others have recommended, a lower maintenance method is simply to ask for an appt. If that garners no response, simply call Hermes concierge and ask if they can book the appt.

ETA: an SA may also ignore a text if he knows an item is not in the store.

Not sure if $1-2k items (shoes, jewelry) just aren’t worth their time?
Sadly, with the amount of clients at Madison, I agree with you. Of course, there are times when I buy nothing or 1-2K USD items, but for the most part, I try to combine my purchases bc it is more convenient for both my SA and for me. IMO, based on conversations I have had with a number of SAs, shoes tend to take up enormous amounts of time for relatively small payout. They also run the risk of returns. Even so, Madison sells an enormous amount of shoes, so they are important to the bottom line. There are many clients however who buy shoes as an add on to RTW or other categories.

In addition, it is difficult for an SA who doesn’t work in shoes to source popular models and sizes. This is bc the Shoe SAs are the first to see new arrivals and can grab them for their top clients. To put it another way, my SAs know my taste quite well and structure my offers accordingly. In 2023, I was offered 2 25 QB (one quadrille 25B and one padded 25K) from Madison and two QB from FSH (25B Togo and 30B special toile) but neither Madison nor FSH could find the specific chypres I wanted in my size. I gave up and bought Birkenstocks. lol.

Does anyone shop at Brooklyn? I have a Q and need advice. I recently hit it off with a lovely SA in Brooklyn. They gave me their card and told me to text or call them if I needed anything. At this stage I hadn’t purchased so I went back several hours later and bought a small silk item.

I’ve struggled to find an SA I click with and this person was SO lovely! They even told me to text them ahead of coming in next time and we’ll have some champagne. 🥰

My question is can you be offered a QB at this store? I understand they don’t carry bags or RTW and I’m in no rush to be offered one. I love the brand and have lots of items I’d like to buy regardless. I’d just like to know if I continue to shop with this SA, will I one day have the option to get a QB or is it a no go as it’s a permanent pop-up? 🤨

I’ve heard while they don’t carry bags, they can access them at Madison and you have to go to that store with the SA to get the bag but I’ve no idea how true that is. The Brooklyn flagship will carry bags but it won’t open until 2026.

Hey would like some advice on whether I should switch SAs.

I found a SA at one of the NYC stores and had a good impression at first - on my first visit, took the time to take note of my wrist size for future reference and spent a while with me suggesting items and talking about them. One of my items was a gorgeous bracelet similar to the double tour. Once I got home I noticed the bracelet had a couple of scratches. I felt bad for wanting to exchange but texted the SA with the pictures and asked if I could exchange. Days later, SA responded and told me I could go in for an exchange. I'm not sure what the SA text SLA time period is.

I tell the SA what time I go in for the exchange, and go in for the exchange and find myself waiting for an hour. The SA also stacked a bunch of other clients to pick up stuff.

I tell the SA of some shoes I want to try and schedule another visit. I even text the SA "I'll be 5 minutes late." I get to the store and am told the SA isn't there. I really did wish the SA told me ahead of time so I could reschedule, but maybe that's expecting too much?

Days later SA responds to my confused text asking if I even arrived on the correct date, and apologizes. On the day the SA wasn't there, another SA helped me and I really liked their vibe.

Am I being too uptight thinking maybe I should switch SAs? For those of you who have switched an SA among the NYC stores - why did you do it, and how did you pick your next SA?

Thanks a bunch.
This early in your shopping experience, no one expects you to be committed. Shop with whomever you like until you find someone you can see sticking with. I shopped between Madison and WS for a year before I decided on an SA when I seriously started shopping H boutique in 2008. But, I strongly suggest that before you purchase anything, inspect it in person before you buy for a more relaxing experience.

@sarahlouise06 , the tried and true recommendation is to find an SA that you connect with, and eventually bags will follow. That’s true regardless of the location. Bc an SA has to go to bat for you to his or her SM before you are even considered. It is my understanding from friends that Brooklyn location is not an impediment for the right client. Have fun.

Williamsburg will be a very large store. The SM is a transplant from Meatpacking and a few SAs from Madison, MP and Wall will be moving there as well over time. As to accessing bags from Madison, I cannot tell you whether that is true or not, but I’m sure it will be a super special case for now if it’s possible. We stopped in once and the SAs are great and their shoe selection is insane. The SA hinted with “now is a fantastic time to set up your relationship here as we will be getting bags when the new location opens” but we are happy at MP. My advice, since it sounds like you love the SA, would be to maintain that and shop there and wait for a bag once they get them. I wouldn’t press with “can you get one from Madison for me”. If the SA mentions that that is an option, then that will be amazing for you. If not, a year and a half is lightning fast in Hermes time.

Thank you so much for filling me in! I appreciate it. Someone kindly messaged me to let me know that you can get a QB at the Brooklyn store but ofc only if you have a relationship, have been shopping there for a while etc. I think you hit the nail on the head and it would be best to continue shopping with the same SA and after some time, hopefully a QB is offered.

My final question – I am moving to Australia for 2 years with my husband. We'll move back here and I will be making trips here while living there. The SA knows as he asked what my timeline is and I was wondering is it possible to do a long distance with him and continue to shop with him? My reason being the Sydney boutique is very competitive and I'd rather shop with someone I vibe with for a long-term relationship.

It's absolutely doable. I moved to Europe and I maintain wonderful relationships with my SAs in NY and California. Since you are moving back, you definitely want BK to be your main store even while you are gone (plus the big store will be open then!).
(Slightly OT, but my main concern for you here is that Australia can be hard with duties, so charge-send could be difficult.)

Hey everyone - looking for some honest feedback. I started shopping at one of the at NYC boutiques last July 2023. I've spent $15k on fine jewelry, home and scarves. I was offered a C18 Noir Box with Palladium after 2 months (I politely declined) as my QB wish is a K25 Noir Epsom with Gold. My SA and I get along well, we have lots of fun and she usually replies within the day whenever I text. Back in October, she told me straight-up that she wouldn't be able to get me the K25 in 2023. I really appreciated her honesty! When I went in this Jan 2024 and brought up I'd also be open to any greys and palladium, she looked shocked and immediately responded that the specs we decided on (Noir Epsom with Gold) are locked and we can't change. We just have to wait. I said great! I only wanted to be more flexible as I know being very specific (especially with such a popular combo) makes it tough for your SA. Obviously I prefer to stick to the requested specs. What do you guys think she means by "the specs are locked"? Has anyone received a similar response from their SA? Is there an expiration to QB wishes? Thanks in advance!!

Perhaps she means that the SM has her locked into that bag for you, IDK. But, re timeframe, you might have to wait a while bc the specs are popular and 15K from July 2023-present seems relatively low when many of us spend 3-5X. JMO though

Hi all. I recently started my journey at the Wall Street location last week. Since then, I’ve gone to the boutique three times and bought about $5K spread across home, shoes, and RTW with the same SA. Between visits 1 and 2, he texted me to come in as a sweater I wanted had come in and I went the next day to pick up. My third visit was today and was a random drop by. I asked if he was available but he was with a client so I decided to leave but as I was leaving he called after me. He ended up leaving his client to say hi to me and we chatted for 10 mins and I asked if I could make a wishlist, to which he said to text him everything I wanted since he needed to go back to his client.

I really love the SA I’ve found (he replies to all my texts within 5 mins and we joke around a lot) but does me asking to make a wishlist makes it less valuable than being offered one? He replied that he would “100% be on the lookout” for the bags I wanted but I know a mini Kelly and B25 are popular sizes so not sure if this is language they use with all new clients.

Also - how exactly does the wishlist system work for NYC stores? Are bags assigned to an SA who then distributes to a client who requested that bag or does the boutique assign to whoever had that bag on their wishlist first?

TIA

You’re overthinking shopping with “wishlist being less valuable”. The wishlist is just a list of bags, leathers, sizes, colors, hardware that you would like to purchase. When a store gets a bag in, the SAs mention to the store manager that they’d like to reserve it for someone. The SM looks at the profile of the person and if they agree, then that someone will get offered the bag.

Got it, thank you! I was very specific for my wishlist so wasn’t sure if that was a mistake for getting any offers.

You are overthinking this :) Just let your SA know what you are looking for and don’t assume you can’t get a small bag if that’s what you want.
The way NYC stores generally work is that bags come in and it’s a bit of a negotiation as to which SA and which client gets what. If “your” bag arrives, your SA tries to nab it for you, with the SM’s approval.
This is why I always say don’t wait to let SAs know what you want, especially if it’s quite specific. Your specs could come in the next day :shrugs:

Thank you!! That makes sense. I believe my SA is new (less than 6 months) so hopefully he gets some bags assigned to him since we really hit it off! :)

Also - a different SA (prior to me be being assigned to one during my first visit) said that in the 8 years she’s worked at Hermes, only 5 Kelly pochettes have come into their boutique. Are Kelly pochettes really that difficult to obtain in NYC or just another SA trying to lower my expectations?
