::tap tap:: Excuse me - I live fairly close to the Mall of America, and if people who live in other countries do a destination (Mall of America) vacation/shopping trip here, they’ll do it to Portland. I imagine Portland might even take some business away from the MOA, it being closer to Vancouver and shopping points south (California). :flowers:
I wouldn’t be surprised, shopping vacations are the best kind of vacations:)

I wonder if they chose Portland thinking that it is tax-free and a big enough city with some nice restaurants etc for people on a trip to their remote H boutique to enjoy. Figuring that a significant portion of their core clients would be fly-in clients. I think many people use the Vegas boutiques in a similar way, though of course there is more to do there. Maybe more like Denver, I think a lot of members shop there remotely/fly in, and both cities offer good skiing nearby in the winter and mountain getaway vacations in the summer. They will get a lot of clientele from Seattle/Bellevue and from Northern CA, as these locations are fairly competitive and are extremely close to Portland. Seattle/Bellevue is my store, and it is much more competitive now than it used to be, because many clients are coming from the Vancouver, BC area to make Bellevue their home store because Vancouver is extremely competitive. For new clients in Bellevue, it seems quite hard to get a quota bag, so many may give Portland a try as their home store instead. Multiply this by xxx for Northern CA.
Oh man! I didn’t realize it would be hard to get a quota bag in Bellevue, that’s where I have a relationship with my SA :(

Oh I agree, I was only thinking that a store in Oregon makes sense, and Portland is really the only choice. Though it would not be considered a destination vacation, if one was going with the idea to shop, it would not be hard to have a enjoyable and comfortable weekend.
We could have a fly in TPF meet quarterly if the store can support long distance shoppers lol
(not sure how my SA would feel about that; it’s one thing to shop in Paris on vacation) but quite another to split US purchases.

Wow, Portland! I'm not surprised. My spouse used to have a lot of travel to Portland, and there are a lot of people who "commute" from Portland to the SF Bay Area. Some fly on commercial jets, some pilot their own planes. One major tech company has a plane shuttle to/from Portland to the bay area daily.

Back before we got engaged, my spouse would visit the jewelers in Portland to shop for settings, gemstones, diamonds. Many of the jewelers shared stories with him on how people will fly into Portland for the afternoon or schedule a stopover to go shopping. I used to travel with project manager who would carve out time to go shopping for watches or handbags if we were in Portland. This was like 10-15 years ago.

We should have a fly in TPF meet up regardless! Of course remain faithful to our home stores, but there will likely be some store launch items like the usual commemorative scarf or some little cute things, I know my SA is happy for me when I am able to purchase a store-exclusive item like that. The main appeal would be to have an excuse to meet with friends though

What happened to the Austin one?
The opening day was poorly executed. Long lines (I think I read 8+ hours for a lot of people), low inventory for most people who were waiting long time partially due to VIPs (who kept going in and out) who weren't restricted to purchase limits, hot weather (IIRC, with no shade?), very limited amount of QB, etc.
