Has anyone heard confirmed news that Hermes is opening a store in Portland? Apparently Dior is coming too. My SA at Chanel gave me the news - mentioned it would be about three years before they are open since they’ll be in a hotel. The foot traffic all around the world is going to be insane!
Oregon has no sales tax
Omg I was thinking the same thing about sales tax. Looks like I'm going to Portland!!!!! :panic:

Interesting perspective here. It hadn’t occurred to me as I don’t consider Portland to be a destination.
My home store is in Vegas and is considered to have a largely transient clientele. I wonder if H is savvy enough to understand that remote clients could be enticed by the lack of sales tax in OR. The tax savings can really add up for larger spenders. Maybe H realizes that the locals may not exactly flock, but others from out of town could.
These are my exact thoughts. While I’ve got disposable income sufficient to buy Hermès, I’ve gotten to that point by being smart with my money. If I can save thousands over the course of a year with minimal effort, you can I bet I will! :yahoo:

Oh I agree, I was only thinking that a store in Oregon makes sense, and Portland is really the only choice. Though it would not be considered a destination vacation, if one was going with the idea to shop, it would not be hard to have a enjoyable and comfortable weekend.

I’m from PDX and judging from our Chanel alone it will do very well here… there is never any stock at our Nordstrom Chanel boutique due to people taking advantage of no sales tax. I’m so excited for them to be here… but sadly I’ll still be too afraid to wear any of my Hermes bags around town! The location is going in the new Ritz-Carlton hotel/condo project- I heard a Cartier will be as well!

ETA: Never mind, clearly I had forgotten just how high our sales tax is. I look forward to making a visit one day!

I'm also very surprised about it being in Portland (though welcome it of course). Portland is far enough from the Bay Area or LA that it's hard to imagine someone would actually travel there just to shop... the cost of traveling would likely exceed any savings. Wonder if this means New Hampshire is on the roadmap too?

But super close to Seattle!

In all seriousness though my trips to Vegas paid for themselves in sales tax savings. When you’re spending tens of thousands of dollars it can be worth it at times.

Interesting. The H that is coming to Scottsdale is also in a new Ritz project. Wonder if there is something there...

You'd have to spend quite a lot. The difference in sales tax between Seattle and Las Vegas on $20k is only $400.

Looking forward to a Dior store in the PNW though.

Precisely. Now multiply that figure and you’ve got my flight plus I get a nice little trip. PDX will pay for itself over and over. My wallet will not be happy but I will. :yahoo:

::tap tap:: Excuse me - I live fairly close to the Mall of America, and if people who live in other countries do a destination (Mall of America) vacation/shopping trip here, they’ll do it to Portland. I imagine Portland might even take some business away from the MOA, it being closer to Vancouver and shopping points south (California). :flowers:
