Thé paris thread had so much potential - would love to see photos of the displays for example, bags yes but also homeware and other things. When I was last in Paris I took lots of photos and posted them. Sadly the Paris thread is now just verging on the unhinged. I ve stopped reading it a while back.
Definitely time to start a new thread about enjoying our bags and where we use them.
There are two threads I’d love to see:

1) Pure Eye Candy. Not boasting about your recent “haul”, not the SO thread, not wildlife. Just beautiful pics of Hermès with a bit of descriptive text. Could be your oldest bag or your newest or one you had to let go ten years ago. Only requirements, original content only ( no lifts from social or press) and chat only related to photos posted.

2) How to Enjoy Paris Even Though You Would Like a Bag. At this point I think the shopping forum needs this. There is so much more to do and see in this beautiful city, and even if you came FOR a bag, here are other ways to enjoy your time (esp close to the stores).

I completely agree. The Hermes subforum needs more fun threads dedicated to just pure enjoyment and appreciation.

1. yes, would love to see more eye candy too...something along the lines of What's Your Favorite H item of the Day? That way it does not overlap with the Hermes in Action thread.

2. always open to food and restaurant suggestions haha

I feel like enough people come to Paris for bags that a visitors thread would be worth it, and would keep the actual shopping in Paris thread cleaner. The hotel recs etc etc can all be there.
A girl can dream ;)

And yep....sometimes we just want to see pretty things and enjoy them :flowers:

100%. The influencers thread is definitely best avoided. What I can’t understand is why people seem to care so much about the antics of a bunch of strangers doing all the perfectly vacuous and predictable things that influencers do.

I feel like everything that can possibly be said about chasing a bag in Paris has been said a million times over, but that thread does seem to be a magnet for all the material unhappiness and desperation of people who could probably benefit from a recalibration of their sense of perspective. It’s just a bag (yes, really, it is). And none of it is the fault of the City of Light.

I would love to see a new thread celebrating all the wonderful things Paris has to offer. I love the posts in the Paris shopping thread (few and far between, unfortunately) of TPFers out and about enjoying restaurants, summer exhibitions and other events etc with their (new or old) bags (tagging generous posters like @880 @tinkerbell68 @Helventara here :flowers:).

And tips/recommendations are always welcome!

Let’s call it Paris Insiders
I love this idea! Where would it go - the general or shopping subforum? Someone start and I'll be sure to post. I'm about to be inflight so can't right now.

Re: the Paris thread, if only some of the posters could maintain perspective. It's all such a first world problem to not have the chance to spend 5-figures on a bag. If they could only remember that there are many many people who never even have a chance to travel to Paris or even abroad.

I'd be happy to contribute to an Hermès-specific Paris enjoyment thread as a Parisian who lives fairly close to all 3 stores. It seems shopping-related, or else it would just go in the tPF main travel forum, which is not very active.

On perspective....I mean.....we are all just lucky that we even get to think, or have time to think, about spending money on a bag to put things in. Let alone a bag that costs over $1000. Half of the planet lives on under $7 USD a day, and 10% of the planet on about $2 USD/day.

When we get to people losing their minds over the fact that they want so badly to spend $12K on a bag after flying (business, first, or PJ) to Paris and cozying up in a nice hotel - the loss of perspective there is dizzying. (Let's not even discuss having the wherewithal to visit "100 Hermès boutiques" worldwide.)

I'm nowhere near visiting 100 boutiques, but I remember once years ago while we were in Asia, my son said to my husband, "I don't mean to sound ungrateful but there sure has been a lot of retail on this trip." LOL. Poor guy.

Here he is biding his time more recently in Sevres. :hbeat:

Thank you @Veritybelle for the tag. It’s very much appreciated. I took a very long hiatus from TPF and from the boutique aspect of the brand when my first SA left Hermes. Because of that, I think that I can see things from both an OG perspective ( when a small customer could grow into a favored client), as well as from a post Covid newcomer perspective. I’ve been fortunate to develop new SA contacts, and I was truly surprised to be called out by a newcomer for being unsupportive bc I gave an honest opinion to a relatively small issue she raised. If you ask for an opinion, and others who have been down the same path multiple times give one, it’s really tiresome to double down and accuse the response as nefarious lol.

The Paris thread is another instance where grievances seem to spill out from the lack of local boutique success, in itself, measured by a very tiny metric. Some posts seem to take more successful experiences of others as a personal affront. Of course, everyone is free to voice a personal opinion on a public forum, but it would be nice for people to endeavor to be polite if not pleasant. We are all very privileged to even contemplate a lottery acquisition. But, at the end of the day,
it is just a bag.

I would love a positive thread about Paris...I've taken breaks from the Paris shopping thread many times because it's just too much.
I LOVE Paris and in fact just put a deposit down for our next trip there in spring 2024 and while I'm sure I'll visit the Sevres store at some point, I really just want to savor all the things that makes the city so wonderful...food, art, culture, the people, the language. Lucky you @QuelleFromage for living in such a wonderful city, 'some' poster's opinions notwithstanding ;)

I agree. I just don’t read those threads anymore either. Not enjoyable. I just want to see the excitement of beautiful new acquisitions of true H lovers. This “ h game“ and overthinking everything is exhausting to read. Very very ready for the day Hermes becomes “over” and we can enjoy it again. I’ve never been a trend follower so this h trend is killing my joy a bit lol
I read the threads even though they do put me through a roller coaster of emotions from delight in happy endings to sadness and incredulity
I agree with your last comment.
I really really want the Hermès fervour to die down as like you I’ve never followed trends and danced to my own drummer.
I feel much more conspicuous carrying my Kelly’s and Jypsiere because they do definitely get noticed these days therefore I find I feel more comfortable with my totally under the radar H bags ( Massai, Omnibus etc ) because nobody notices them
I never brought my bags to incite envy or give an appearance of wealth I brought them because I loved them and the history and quality of the products

I agree with everything you said above. I often flip my Birkins backwards or wear different bags all together depending on where I am going. Miss the under the radar days. I think we will all do a little a happy dance when Hermes becomes “so last year“ soon as everything does. Especially with instagram and “influencers.” And the true H lovers like us will stick with the brand. Hoping that’s sooner than later.

Wow. I’ve ‘found my people’ as they say. I was just about to post in the bolide thread how much I enjoyed the conversation about the color Rouge Sellier and the wonderful pics that members shared; it was like the old days and I wanted to lick my phone screen the bags were so gorgeous.

I had to stop reading the Paris thread; I’ve been every year for some time now and only tried the lottery once to see how it worked. Now I’m too busy eating raw cheeses

The lick my phone screen comment about killed me but I actually understood what you meant at the same time

In French, windows shopping is « faire du lèche-vitrines » = licking the windows. So it’s perfect to say that!

I am French from Paris and live in the US. I would love a H Thread related to what what’s currently trending in the city. I have 2 kids and it’s not always easy to please them so recommendations for exhibits and activities would be perfect too!
As for eating, anywhere is good there! Even just fresh market food is amazing. I miss it so much!

The only place I feel ‘safe’ to show my H bags is Insta atm. I do the same thing like you do in public. Backwards and even told it was just a look a like .
