I don’t often read the relationship/Paris type threads, because quota bags aren’t my thing, but I read a few pages yesterday. It’s upsetting to read to be quite honest. I understand the frustration, but I don’t understand the anger. Especially the anger directed at members here trying to help. Used to be such behaviour got you banned, but not anymore evidently.
It’s just bags. It’s not like the worlds going to fall in just because you couldn’t get what you want.

Couldn’t agree more with this and many of the other recent comments on this thread. Reading the last few pages here just now has actually been therapeutic (+1 traumatized/appalled from the paris thread lol). It was really nice to see how supportive and sane many in the community are (esp people like @880 who’s always been so willing to help people!). Thanks to all those who have shared and helped others.

Maybe I’m just living under a rock.. but how/when did H get so crazed by influencers and the masses? Do we think it’s going to continue to get worse with the opening of more retail locations?

I miss the days when you could just go in and buy a bag or stuff you wanted, and actually use your k/b without people gawking…

Thanks for the kind compliment @thebirkinqueen :)
I don’t understand the hate for authentic preloved bags, in solid condition, at reasonable prices.
The beauty of these bags is that they are meant to last; to be refurbished; or spa-Ed,
and going preloved is sensible and sustainable if you cannot get a lottery appt or do not want
to spend on other boutique merchandise

I'd be happy to contribute to an Hermès-specific Paris enjoyment thread as a Parisian who lives fairly close to all 3 stores. It seems shopping-related, or else it would just go in the tPF main travel forum, which is not very active.
I started a thread in the H shopping forum which has now been merged with an existing one on Paris in the Travel forum :flowers:

Totally agree! I actually think it's fun to look for interesting vintage bags with different leathers than what's currently being offered in the boutiques. I found a 20 year old B35 in Fjord leather and a Bolide 27 in peau porc, in addition to a few other discontinued bags and clutches. And yes, very well priced as well for certain items!

ETA: omg I can’t believe I got it wrong. It wasn’t Fjord. It was Buffalo B35! And with a shooting star stamp.

Agree with you both! Absolutely nothing wrong with it and sometimes it’s your only option for particular colors/combos. Plus I feel like most owners take good care of our beloved bags and many available on resell are not “banged up”.

On that note - I have heard that there are good vintage stores in Tokyo/Japan.. does anyone by chance have recommendations or might be able to link me to the thread on this?

(Sorry I am not very tech savvy or super familiar with how the forum works.)

I like Amore Vintage Japan and have bought a couple of items from them (very happy with my purchases and with my dealings with the team). I also look at Vintage Qoo, but have not purchased from them (yet… ). Both have bricks and mortar stores as well. Brand JFA often has interesting pieces but they also sell on eBay so you need to check pieces are actually available before pulling the trigger there as the site may not always be up-to-date. Happy hunting!

Drooling over Peau porc lately!! Would take anything in it  Also loving Vache Naturelle. Love the different leathers Hermes has offered over the years.

I just read a few pages of that Paris thread to see what I missed and :wtf:

Serious shout out to @880, @acrowcounted, @QuelleFromage, @momoc, @periogirl28 and others for their tireless efforts to help guide those tPF members new to the Hermes world understand some of the idiosyncrasies that accompany the H shopping experience, especially post Covid.

I can understand the frustration of being unable to obtain something that you really want. Earlier in my Paris travels I signed up for an appointment and I didn’t get one either. The disappointment is real. But but even as I type those words I remind myself of lessons I learned at an early age (cue the music….) ‘you can’t always get what you want’. And my grandmother said it long before Mick (out with a new album, yikes!). It’s just not fair to take out your frustration on those who are trying to help you (or on the great City of Light). I do agree that the SAs at the concierge desks have a difficult job at times but there’s no reason to be dismissive of a client who is respectful.

@880 and I are in complete agreement on the subject of resellers. You have to do the research, and no, it’s not easy, but there are lovely bags available in the secondary market if you’re willing to look. Or not.

ETA: and thanks @Veritybelle, I love a good lead :flowers:

I wonder too if it’s a personality thing. I by nature am not super competitive. I actually shy away from it and it turns me off. So maybe those that get caught up in the h game or Paris game are more competitive by nature? So for me if a bag is not readily available at the boutique I just find it on the secondary market or just move on. I also try to live by the what will be will be mentality. I try not to sweat it and I find that things always seem to work out. Usually for the better! Just my 2 cents

I’m reasonably competitive but I think I’m more inclined to research, analyze and problem solve. I like to get the job done :search:

My first Birkin (2014) was pre loved from Fashionphile and it’s just perfect. While I understand that buying a NIB B or K from a reseller can be absurdly expensive, these bags are, as you note, meant to last so a preloved, more reasonably priced bag is a steal (relatively speaking of course!) And, one need not worry about making that first ‘ding’

Exactly!!! I’m leisurely looking for a preloved k32 retourne in box for that reason. I know if I got it brand new from the boutique I would never want to use it! Like the box Calvi I got. Still in the box lol.

My 1999 K32 retourne in box definitely arrived with some signs of love (which the h spa worked on) but I’m comfortable carrying it anytime because it’s already been enhanced by scratches! My SA offered me a B25 in box and I was afraid it would only sit in the box too

I DM’d @880 to say thanks a couple days ago re: the same thing. I wanted to DM thanks to the other members you noted but felt a little shy and presumptuous since I’ve not met them in person and/or have had little to no actual exchanges/interactions with on this forum. So, big public thanks!
