Toile d’H (I have seen it called Toile d’Hermes) is missing. There have been multiple stoles in that design (I have two mousseline ones and one in taffeta silk). I know there was a mousseline one with a silk fringe as well, and probably more. Not sure re: author and / or year.

It is similar in style to the 1963 Toile de Jouy (and clearly inspired by the toile de jouy style), but it is a different scarf.

Some wishlist items: I would love to see the following indicated:
- Waterproof scarves as mentioned above
- Mousseline versions of scarves (at least when 140cm mousselines were available)
- Jacquards (there were not that many, after all).

I know of a lot of special edition scarves missing from the 3rd edition, but I assume many of them will be listed in the dedicated book.

(from SOTD thread):

I think Sp.Ed.s proved so problematic in CAlll that prompted author to create a separate volume to, hopefully, get things right. From what I understand she has access to H’s records (thus the ‘rename’ of a few designs), which as I further understand to be somewhat chaotic, soooo info might not be completely accurate or definitive?

I read in Forward of CAlV that she’s created a “trilogy” this time around with one volume dedicated to Sp.Issues and third for Limited Editions (though a couple appear in CA4 for some reason). So far I’ve been unable to locate these other 2 volumes and author neglected to answer that question when I emailed her about another topic. :shrugs:

Special / limited editions are super hard. For example, I think they have been doing one for pretty much each boutique in Asia, of which there are many. And I have always heard Hermes is not great at keeping records. Curious to see what those books will be like.

With the release of Carrés d’art lV (CA4) comes some inevitable discovery of typos, errors, omissions, etc. The Forward states that CA4 will be done in a trilogy: Classic Scarves, Limited Editions, and Special Issues. As far as I know we only have Classic Scarves to date, so starting this thread with that in mind.

I thought this might be a great place to share observations and corrections with each other on our quest towards total scarf-enlightenment

Agree on the Sp.Issues. Wonder what parameters designate Limited Editions?

Can we add Plisse distinction also to wish list?

Plisse would be hard since any scarf could have been plissed after being manufactured.

I am adding the explanation from the book, although it doesn’t really make things clearer. I would have expected both types to be merged into one book.

I am so new to hermes scarf collecting that the whole limited and special edition scarves isn’t fully indexed in my brain. But I did take notes while looking through the book. I now realize some that I noted might be considered limited or special. Or it might be that they were not in classic 90’s format maybe. I probably don’t know enough.
*The Marble Balade en Berline. Maybe Not mentioned because a 75. Book has the first marble silk.
* Brides de Gala Fleuri
* BdG Love. I have twilly so maybe not done larger.
*My Arms of the United States has a special edition not listed in code ( as I mentioned) In 1976.
* not sure if a classic size was done - Coup de fouet au bloc. ( I have a 140)
* double sided not mentioned I don’t think.
*Early America special edition for chicago museum of art was it?
*Promenade a Versailles ( prob just a “special edition” Saved for special edition book?
*jardin enchante Had a special issue for Central Park so prob saved for other book
* I assume Perspective is from 2019 or 2020 to still be on the Hermes website yet not mentioned on the book listing.
That’s all I had notes on.
