Hi girls,

I know there is a Monaco thread but I'm wondering specifically if anyone was successful in getting a leather birkin (not exotic) as a walk in and what the mood or tactics are for this store? I tried really hard in Paris but to no avail - got a Kelly for my mum.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Alex

You can forget about getting Birkins as a walk in any stores from the Riviera. You would have to be extremely lucky or play the Hermes game.
They even close the stores from time to time, and let you rot outside under the sun. If you don't know a particular SA, and even if you carry Hermes from top to bottom and a 35 birkin...the store in Cannes in particular is a shame to the brand .. no matter what you want to buy, silks, bracelets, they will give you this big attitude. Good Luck..

That sounds so encouraging! :giggles: Good, so I won't get my hopes up and get to enjoy my trip w/ my husband in August.

i think my friend was very luck. he got his croc kelly as walk-in

Well, I dunno...never say never, I guess. One of my most pleasant experiences was in Cannes as a first time walk-in, and was given a whole oodle of free goodies (perfume samples, Hermes magazine) from a lovely SA (Sophia), even before purchasing anything. Fluent French may help!:smile1: It actually started my love affair with the store and the kindness of the SA there. She spent literally 30 minutes trying to track down a passport cover for me in orange and finally found one in Lyon, I think. I still remember the beautiful white sweater on the mannequin outside. It was summer and I'm still kicking myself for not buying it, but I was so sweaty I couldn't manage to figure out how to delicately try it on...so, anyway, always worth trying your luck. You never know. BTW the Riviera stores are generally closed in the early afternoon for a few hours. This is pretty common in the South of France. Get there before lunch.

I also had very good experience at the Cannes store. A male SA (sorry, can´t remember his name) was really nice to me and spend a time helping me to choose a kelly double tour and a clic clac. When I was goig to pay, he even offered me a white 35 Kelly PHW, although I didn´t ask for any bag at all. It was in september 2010. How I regret today not buying that Kelly...

the prices in Monaco are the same as in France. You can also deduct VAT. I don't think none of the stores are very friendly towards "Tourists" especially when it comes to Birkin, and Kelly purchases - unless you are ready to drop top dollars and it's yr lucky day. Monaco and Cannes are by the way, franchises stores, therefore they don't share inventories and pretty much do as they please with their stocks. NICE is not a Franchise and somehow I think Cannes and Monaco are always bombarded with cruise ships, festivals, Mip TV and other events they might be more difficult to deal with. Wishing you the best of luck !!!! :balloon:

Oh really, I was told the opposite when I spoke to FSH yesterday, they told me Nice is a franchise store while Cannes and Monaco are not.

I don't think I can deduct VAT as I live in the EU.. but good to hear it's the same price :smile1:

So I'm wondering which stores in the Cote d'Azur are franchise stores? It's Monaco and Cannes, or Nice?

What about Beaulieu sur Mer, St Tropez, Marseille? Aix-en-Provence? (And Capri?) Are they all corporate stores?

Thanks for any help!

I don't know about franchise vs. non-franchise in Southern france but in terms of stock Beaulieu-sur-Mer is wee baby tiny store by the port. I doubt you'd have a lot of luck if you're looking for a particular bag, eg. B or K, there. Cannes and Monaco are huge, as is Aix. St. Tropez is also large; 2 stories. I'll let someone else tell you about the franchise vs. non-franchise, but I'd definitely let the size of the store dictate where I was going if I were looking for a specific item:smile1:
