Just for the record, I did drop into the Monaco store. It was a pretty good experience, and I did walk off with a few cute H items (no bag, obviously, and nothing that would make me want to engage in the hair-swishing I discussed earlier, but hey, I did buy something in Monaco!).

Picked up a P18 in Noir w/ phw on my first visit to the Monaco store! Ofc I had to inquire about a wishlist, and I received the expected response of how it’s for locals only 😏 didn’t hurt to ask tho!

A friend of mine just bought a Kelly Elan with feathers at the Saint Tropez store. It was in a display and she asked and was approved to purchase it. So it does happen, pretty uncommon though.

I know what u mean. But thats the only way Hermes can avoid any bag to fly off the shelves by putting display only. Thus way they can have at least some bags to be on display. It would never hurt to inquire or show interest. Maybe to ask if they have something similar on sale, indirectly giving them an idea

I was just at the Monaco store in August, and some of their display items were actually for sale. One of them was a Bolide 25 in a bright yellow color that the SA so kindly took out to let me try on. He even brought out other colors for me to see, but ultimately I went home with a P18. No prior prespend there either. So don’t just assume that none of the display items are for sale, cuz you never know until you ask!

Eye candy at St. Tropez. Asked if theyre selling any bags and was told they only have steeple bag and some other canvas bags etc. I ended up just creating a France profile which i will use when i go shopping in Paris next week.

I think your friend was very lucky. I have often been in European stores and asked for a bag that was on the shelf and told in no uncertain terms that it was not possible. And the fact that it was a Kelly makes the story even more wonderful for your friend. Perhaps they put it out that morning hoping someone would agree to take it that day. But most all the stories here of Birkins and Kelly’s are of people walking away empty-handed and disappointed!
