Hi Ladies, Opinion needed
I went into Harrods on Monday, having made an appointment with my SA to meet her around 11. I arrived at 11.15 but she was not there and I was served by another SA. Then later on I got a text that she apparently forgot she had an appointment with me.
I asked the SA that helped me that day about the possibility to get my wish bag this side of Christmas. When we checked the system, however it appears that when I asked my usual SA to renew my wish with change from K25 or K28 to K25 a few months back, she had forgotten to change the expiration date so I was waiting for months on an expired wish.
Now I have 2 questions
I want to get something for myself this Xmas, should I keep holding out to see if I might get my wish or just choose something else?
Secondly, while I do get on with this SA ok and she has helped me getting non-quota things I am a little annoyed that when I make appointment quite often the appointment would start late (longest time I waited for 40min with another client taking his time). I’m also a little annoyed to find out I’ve been waiting for an expired wish for months. Waiting is ok but I could have ended up waiting till next May only to find out my wish had expired 8 months ago. So the question is: do I start working with someone else?
Given how low stock seems to be + Harrods being very difficult to get B/K/C, I’d look to get something else for Xmas rather than hoping (and wishing) for a quota bag (especially as you’re after a K25).

Re. whether to switch SAs, appointments starting late due to another client taking their time I think is not exactly within the SA’s control. However, SA actually forgetting that you have an appointment is another matter. That and how they messed up your wish would make me want to switch.

Is this a new rule? The process used to be easy (at least at LHR). You line up, show your purchased goods (if asked), and you’d get the refund within 2-3 weeks.

Shipping it to home address is risky
It's not just that it's risky; shipping H items, at least to the US, in my experience tends to end up with higher duties charges. I think it may be as simple as not dealing with a human but with a calculator.

I agree. By the time you add the shipping, insurance and duties charges....well there goes your VAT savings. It's not impossible you would end up paying more, so unless the item is significantly less to start with in the UK, the whole thing becomes less and less attractive.

Yes that’s true, one has to do their due diligence. I ship to a country where the duty is really low and Hermes prices are very high.

Exactly…I don’t understand why they changed the VAT refund rule. Tourists will save up their shopping money for France or other European countries..

It's pretty simple. Brexit.
It makes me a bit sad as I love my London SA, but it's no longer nearly as advantageous to shop in London, certainly not when compared to Paris.

I would recommend avoiding the ground floor H concession in Harrods; unless things have changed very recently, they operate a queue to even just get in and browse which is horrendous not just at weekends. BUT, if you’re only interested in RTW and tableware, just head to the 1st & 3rd floors respectively and the atmosphere is completely different, no queue and SAs are pleasant and very helpful

Also a reasonable display of shoes upstairs and fine jewellery- it would be helpful if they had some scarves there too. However ground floor Harrods does vary and often there is no queue and you can walk right in to browse and often can catch a salesperson reasonably promptly. I think they vary according to how busy it is. Certainly much better than before when there was a constant queue and they only let 1 person in per staff member present.

I was told by my SA to make my appointment and wait at Hermes Femme (that’s what he calls it) and whatever else I wish to see may be brought upstairs from the ground floor. I think it’s a great idea to keep up social distancing and stay safer.

Good idea - but sometimes takes out the spontaneity of seeing something you may not have otherwise considered. I have to say upstairs is very very quiet - total contrast - perhaps because it is relatively new ?

I am always happy to browse in any Hermes boutique I visit, and I totally agree about unexpected finds as my last visit yielded something very precious to me. Alas, considering the current number of new daily cases, going upstairs likely a good way to go for now. It’s quieter because customers are generally more interested in Hermes bags than RTW or Fine Jewellery.

I didn’t realise fine jewellery was upstairs now. The RTW new section is really calm and the SA’s super friendly compared to downstairs which is manic most of the time.
