Hermes boutiques in London

I have a friend in London who is willing to pick up something for me on his way back to the states. How much cheaper is an Evelyn there and Oran sandals? Will he have a chance? He usually shops for me at the airport but I thought I’d send him on a shopping expedition for me.

I don’t know if you got a response on the Oran yet. I paid £404 at Heathrow T5 in March (they cost £485 in regular Hermes stores in the city).

Just came back from London and visited 5 stores. Wanted to get a clutch or handbag; no wishlist in particular.

Harrods - super crowded but wait was not long probably due to customers leaving quickly because of limited stock; nice sale people.

Cadogan - horrible! Sales were standing around trying avoid eye contact & said they don’t have much without even trying to learn what I am looking for. Rude. Anyway, moving on...

NBS - long wait, maybe 20-30 mins but worth it because stock was good & sales were nice. Ali assisted us and continuously brought us differnt bags after hearing what we like/dislike. No B or K here, but they did have 2002, an orange/pink with blue/brown interior top zip clutch (new style I have not seen), Cherche mini, and a few other bags which I didn’t remember their names. We ended up buying a men’s Flash clutch and an Octogone (which was never on my wanted list due to the canvas strap; however, the bag now comes in a leather strap & I couldn’t turn down a Gris Asphault).

Selfridge - friendly sales but empty stock although I heard they expanded & was supposed to get more stock.

Heathrow airport - only 4 bags (Multiplis clutch, a men’s clutch, a big travel bag, and I think Garden City bag).

That’s pretty much my verdict, though I may be biased... selfridges is very nice actually but my fave is NBS. RE is also very good. Harrods full of women who seem to have done something terrible to their lips...

London is definitely hard to buy a B or K, even if you know a SA by name, have made a few purchases with her and spent on my last visit almost £18,000 the same day (a cashmere/mink jacket at NBS and a leather coat, Neo boots and H men’s watch at CP, the store I usually buy from).

Received an email 3 months later from her:
“During your recent visit, you expressed an interest in our RTW collection and leather bags.
We would be delighted to invite you in store to introduce our new spring/summer RTW collection, whenever you will be in town. Look forward to hearing when would be most convenient for you, and would be pleased to organise your appointment accordingly.”
They had a ‘display only’ Toupe bag I asked about and got the ok from the manager to buy it, but regretfully didn’t. I don’t know how significant (if at all being approved for a display only’ bag is) this is.

Not sure if the email meant Bs and Ks. What do you guys think? Is that how you get contacted when they want to show you one? I’ve only gotten mine by going to the store and being surprised .Never been contacted by anyone to invite me for an appointment

I’m sure this is nothing compared to what some people spend but I was still shocked that it wasn’t enough.

Please don’t take me posting the amount as bragging. I just curious to find out what’s considered normal spending here? I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much before in ‘non-bags’ at H, let alone in one day.

Also, at Harrod’s do they only look at your Hermes spending or does your overall spending matter as well?

I’ll be in London this Saturday or Sunday. Should I contact my SA or go somewhere else?
I want to retire my everyday bag and would love to replace it with a black B30 GHW... do you guys think I stand a chance?

I have to defend both H at Harrods and Selfridges.

Though neither of these two stores is my home store, I do visit them from time to time.
As a Londoner, I agree both places can be tourist traps as they are huge dept stores and are mentioned on tourist magazines.
However, there are nice SAs I have met over the years at both locations, and occasionally some bad SAs too. But I refuse to generalise, they do have some excellent SAs that have provided me with great customer service and shopping experience.

If you dont like crowds I would, like others have already mentioned, try going super early or simply, choose another H store in London.

I’ve had an excellent experience at both places (neither being a flea market when I purchased something. I mostly browse the outskirts of it without buying when in that chaotic state). At Harrod’s, the SA even told me she had just sold a red B25 when I asked about them instead of feeding me the usual ‘we don’t have anything”.

1) you must make your wishes known
2) hold out for what you really want - I'm sure you will be respected for that
3) take every opportunity you have and start with your regular SA

Thank you very much for the suggestions, PJW5813. I’m definitely not good at that. I think I’ve threw a hint and got the ‘write down your preferences and we’ll contact you’. Could that have been the email? I’ve always taken the ‘write down your preferences’ as a polite way of blowing you off, unless you’re in a bag appointment.

I’m sure as I become more established with SAs that will really mean what it says lol

If a receipt doesn’t have my name on it, does that mean there is no record I made that purchase????

I just noticed the receipt for NBS has no name/address at the top, even though we did a VAT return on it. Is there a way to add sales that weren’t recorded to the system, if I have proof of purchase like the receipt or a picture of it?

I don't think 'write down your preferences' is a polite way of blowing you off.
Although I can understand that one might think that.
In fact, I would take it as quite a positive response.
This whole game without rules means that you have to be proactive.
Although I have never wanted a B or K, so don't have that problem, I think the spending game is much more blatant in Asia, more subtle in US and not much of a feature in UK.
It is genuine interest in Hermes that seems to count more here.
