Hermes Blacklist?

Well that's what I thought when she asked me, but when I rethink the whole conversation later the way she said it was not encouraging, she actually asked "the bag is still with you right?", and it was not hard to tell that she has some implications.

Actually it's been a while since I was offered anything, I understand that it's very hard for anyone to get any bags recently but with my spending ratio and history, not getting even a P18 for over a year is really worrying. That's why Im thinking if they've been suspecting that I've sold my bags, it's been a frustrating year already and this conversation hurt my feeling

I think that could very well just be an innocent question! A lot of people resell or gift off bags that don't work for them anymore and these are such big ticket bags I just take her question to mean, "You still like it right?" I'm sure (hope) they're not so arrogant to think it's wrong to sell off items you don't like/use anymore, even if God forbid it's Hermes. You can't return them so.... what is the alternative, they think people are throwing them away? $10k paperweight?

I know this is an old post but this is the closest post I can find about my situation.

I just wonder if anyone has a similar experience - has anyone been asked by your SA about the "whereabouts" of one of your particular B/K? I usually dress causally when I go shopping and save my more expensive handbags for occasions or important dinners, ie I won't deliberately carry a Kelly just because I'm going to Hermes. Then recently my SA suddenly seems very interested in one of the bags I bought from her 2y ago and she even told me to "bring it with you when you have time to visit again", I was a bit shocked by the question and I asked "why" (without much thought at the time, just found the question funny) and she just said "just wanna see how it goes with your outfit".

On my way home I keep thinking about this, her expression suggested it's definitely more than just that, I have a feeling that she's suspecting I might have sold it. This gives me a really bad feeling, I know Hermes has a lot of unspoken rules, but being suspected, particularly by a SA who I have known for years feels even worse, it's like there's no trust between us at all ...

Anyone else has experienced this before?
I’m gonna answer this and say I have DEFINITELY been asked this question. I was asked even more bluntly, “You still have the bag, right?” I do have the bag to this day but I didn’t wear it on that particular day. Very big possibility they want to know if a customer is a reseller.

Do you still have the bag?

This is a little rare but it definitely could be not that serious. Maybe the SA just saw someone else with the same bag and recalled yours, maybe they got the exact same bag on hand and remembered they once offered you one, or it could really be a random thought that happened to pop into their head.

I do think it’s very common for the SAs to take notice of what bag you are carrying. They comment on mine when we chit-chat (even non Hermes ones) and are definitely happy when they see I use something they’ve sold me. I'd say given their job that’s pretty expected. I agree that if you have the bag, it won't hurt to take it in next time. If not, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

We know Hermes will gladly service and spa pre-loved bags, and we've got stories from members who carry their vintage bags (that they bought second hand) into the store and having SAs complimenting them. So I don't think they are forbidding people from re-homing their bags. Buying with the sole purpose of flipping (brand new) bags in great volume and taking it to a level of business..that's different IMO.

Things like this is why I got sick of Hermes and left the brand. The games that customers have to play with SAs and quotas of items/money you "have" to spend to be "allowed" to purchase items from them is ridiculous. It's OUR money. After my short stint of nonsense like that, I took my money elsewhere. Hermes didn't miss it, but I also don't miss the elitist crap that comes with the brand.

I still have a soft spot for their scarves and some of the jewelry, but I get those on the secondary market or order them from Hermes online. Even that is rare any more.

It's so hard to know what other people are thinking! I would assume it was an innocent question, and just wear the bag she asked about next time you visit your boutique. I would imagine the SAs are genuinely pleased to see customers using and enjoying their Hermes items. It also gives them an idea of what you truly use and wear, and what you might like in the future.

Hey, we all sell our bags. It's called recycling. That's also why we buy new bags--because we've grown tired of or have worn out one thing and want something new. However, I too find it a strange question and I would ask the SA why the inquiry?

Moreover, even if you sold it, and unless it was a custom bag, how would they know? You know they've made more than one etoupe Birkin or Mykonos Kelly or Black bolide or whatever it is, so how could they match a given bag offered by a reseller back to you?

I'm quite candid with Hermes. I've brought bags in for a spa treatment in preparation for reselling-- we've discussed my goals and what needs to be done, so I really don't understand why your SA would mind even if you were selling a bag.

However, I always wear an Hermes bag when I go into Hermes-but then I always wear an Hermes bag. The point is, I want them to realize I love what I bought with the hope that they'll offer me something else. Maybe mention to your SA that you save your Hermes for special occasions? But maybe take out a bag when you go to Hermes?

Actually I was asked exactly that as a follow up question, and I'm quite sure it's not because she already has a bag to offer because we were discussing which color to focus on for the next offer.

I do have that particular bag with me because it's a more recent purchase (although still more than a year ago), but tbh I did sell some of the older bags, usually bright colors that are too difficult to match with my outfit (sad to say, I'm not that young anymore), so if it's another bag that she asked about that's a chance that I can't "show" it to her.

So did you deliberately wear that bag to visit after that? I almost always go to that area after I went to gym/yoga class, and that's why she doesn't see me using their bags often (sometimes I don't even bother carrying a bag, after all you just need your car key and mobile phone to survive in the city ...). I live quite far from the shop, but guess I'll have to find a day to visit with the bag anyways ~

Many SAs ask this question, although some more indirectly than others. Mine asked me to bring in the bag so she could tie a twilly for me.

On other occasion, when she saw I bought a bag from website, she asked if I have that bag. I just casually shrug it off saying when I got the bag it looks more mature than I thought and gift it to my mother.

That’s very interesting you got asked the same question as a follow-up! Mind you, the bag that I got asked about was a relatively new purchase at that time. It was not an old bag from a long time ago.

After that, I did wear that bag to the store.

I have never been asked directly and not sure how I would feel if I was asked about my items.

However I can say that when I do go into Hermes I do try to carry one of my bags now and then. I also try to wear my scarves/RTW/Jewelry every once in a while so they don't think I am purchasing these non quota items to get a quota bag, then sell off my items. It's not all the time I visit my boutique, but I do try to make an effort. It's not right and you should be able to buy what you want and sell as you wish. From a different perspective, I could see how my SA would find it odd if I was making all these purchases over the years but never came to the store wearing/carrying any item I purchased.

Wear the bag next time when you go to the boutique and don't take that personally! A youtuber called "Isabelle's style" were also asked from her SA about her magnolia kelly. I assume they have to ask their customers sometimes

I've never been asked by my SA about previous bags but I bring them in regularly, always receive a compliment and she's commented that she's pleased to see I remove the stickers (her assumption is rightly or wrongly that customers who don't take the stickers off intend to resell them as "brand new"...)

The number of bags have exploded on Fashionphile, whilst stock is so so low, so it may be the case that SAs are "on a hunt" for resellers to blacklist..?

Same thinking. I also firmly believe that we should be able to buy what we want and sell or gift them away as we wish. Brand new or otherwise. But I do understand where they are coming from.

Also, while this is a fun purchase for us. To the SAs, it’s their livelihood. They may be asked to go if they are found to have sold to a reseller.

I just want to correct this, not everyone sells their bags. I would never sell any H bags. I've happily gifted away bags to relatives in the past if I don't use them anymore.
