Ahh. . .the ring search. It was really fun in the beginning when you are trying to decide what style you like and playing "dress up" with all the rings. . .but when you pinpoint what you like and you start to TRULY look, that's when the pressure, stress, and heartache from disappointments come in! I went to all the Tiffany stores in the So Cal area (8; not including San Diego) and I also went to all the stores in Las Vegas (3) during my sola search in TWO WEEKS' time. Every store I went to, I had an SA do a search for me, and each and every time I would get inconsistent results - it drove me nuts.

My search is a little different from your (and whoop's) experience, so I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to not see the diamond or ring in person before the purchase!! I wish the two of you the best of luck! I am really glad the two of you are involving your bfs; this event is such a special event in your life, it only makes sense to share it with the one you're going to spend your life with.

Lec - when are you planning on buying the ring? Anytime soon or are you still taking your time deciding?

8 stores in two weeks! Kohl! That is a lot of driving for the bf! But so worth it, right? Haha

Lec - Gog will ship you the stone to view first for a fee. I think to ship the loose stone back and forth is costing us about $100. But itll be worth it so you can see the diamond before setting. Tacori hand makes each setting to the measurements of the diamond so once it's set it's set! GOG will take back the stone but the setting is yours so you have to find a comparable stone measurement. Just letting you know if you are scared and want to see it first, they will let you for a small fee. Not too bad when you spending this much!

Thanks whoops for the heads up :) I'm planning to have them ship it to me 1st so that I can see it too or go to this local jeweler that has great reviews (but my bf doesn't want to go until after the Valentines Day rush because he thinks we're just going to pay a premium and pick from a scarce selection).

We're both iffy with local jewelers too..because we've been to a couple of B&M stores and the sales people were really pushy so that kind of intimidates us hehe.

With GOG..so far I can't find any stones that I really like that is around the specs that I would want. There's only this one that has somewhat of a potential:
http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7785/
But I'm not sure about that huge mark in the middle..and it's on the higher side of our budget too. Bleh....

Kohl- I guess it's whenever I find the diamond that I like...he said he wanted me to be sure of it and to not regret it because then he'll feel bad and regret it too. So I'm just waiting for more stocks from GOG..but if after a couple of weeks and I still can't find it then I guess we'll have to go to the local store and see what they have to offer. I just hate having to pay the sales tax, and like whoops said..GOG is also offering a discount if you get the diamond and setting through them. Oh BTW are you driving up here to see the Sola? My SA said that someone said that they're gonna drive up here to see it :graucho:

That's a great stone, if not for the grademaking crystal there. That's what makes it an SI, it's a crystal in the table in the center.

Id give GOG a few weeks to see what they can get in after Valentines. You can also check out other online vendors but I don't know which carry Tacori. Pearlmans MIGHT but I dunno how their diamond selection is.

I think pearlmans stopped carrying Tacori due to quality issues. The micropave on the sides of the bands were falling out. Or that was what the rumor was?

So far all of the online dealers I have seen don't offer the dame quality and selection good old gold does? Since1910 and toppers and Solomon brothers all sell Tacori too. Also check local dealers, sometimes they will compare and match online prices. I tried that here but the 10% tax was a big hit to them and the store didn't have many Gia or ags diamonds. Mostly no cert or egl. But if you can get it through them that would be fantastic!

yea I think a lot of them did, because tacori's quality control has plummetted lately. Esp with the start of their QVC line. I think GOG can order any of them, I know in the store they have a whole section of their case devoted to Tacori, I think each major designer had a whole "case" of their stuff unless that's changed in the last year.

Lec - in combo with this http://forum.purseblog.com/the-jewelry-box/diamond-buyers-prepare-yourselves-662026.html we both officially have the worst diamond buying time choice ever. People might start snatching them up. Just like all the price increase talk has spiraled my spending... The lv and Cartier ones definitely resulted in my increased demand. Happy hunting!

Ame - one of the reasons we chose to go Non pave was to avoid this problem. :( I don't really have too good vendors here to go to for help. I hope the quality is still okay since it's hand made. I haven't heard too much about Tacori lately

well no work can be done by anyone by Tacori from what I understand. So any Tacori issues need to be sent to Tacori by an Authorized retailer, like say GOG. It's better that way for sure. Safer.

I like the LOOK of Pave but for me that's just not at all practical. I barely wear my stuff as is and it's not pave!

I thought Tacori quality issue was a few years back but recently they've been improving? I didn't read about it much but there was a thread on PS about that.

And ugh, Whoops, I just saw the thread Ame started. Great. Now I'm freaking out. :( Need to hunt! lol

It has gotten a lot better! And they guarantee the lifetime of the setting as long as you original owner that they will replace any sidetones that fall out. So no worries! I think you should be fine. I haven't heard anything lately.

I think most of the issues were with the crescent collection with the open exposed sides.

I was looking around last night...GOG in terms of convience and price would be a great option for me but as of right now they still haven't gotten any new stock. I'll wait until end of this month, but if they don't have the diamond that I'm looking for, then I was thinking about looking at Brian Gavin's diamonds. His diamonds, particularly the H&A ones seem to be stunning. I saw a few pictures of PS-ers who bought theirs from him and even though the stones are like a H-I, they seem to be bright white and the H&As are really pronounced. One of my gf is going to try to source some diamonds for me too so I'll wait for her to get back to me also, but I'm just trying to find I guess a backup for my backup plan.

What do you guys think about Brian Gavin's diamonds?
I'm liking this one right now (only negative is that it's a 1.34ct, when I was originally hoping for a 1.5. But I did try on the Tacori with a sample 1.2ct and it was a decent hand coverage size, I was just hoping that I'll get a good enough sized diamond that I won't feel the need to upgrade any time soon, and thought that 1.5 would be good...)

There's also this one, but I'll be moving down a huge jump in color to stay in the price range that I would like:

neglible flour or medium flour ame? I always heard that having flour will help make a stone look brighter, but I don't want it to be glow in the dark bright at night though lol. Brian Gavin said his flour stones are not milky like other peoples stone..so iono. There's also the blue collection that he released..which are high in flour but they're ideally cut and really low priced, I'm not just not too sure about the high flour...
