Just in general. It's a lot to do with both the angles of the cut, and also to the way the human eye adjusts to the light returnAme- "An ideal cut diamond will often appear extremely dark to the naked eye when it's all firey"...do you mean when it's set in a halo setting or just in general?
Exactly. A G-filled halo is not going to be noticeable next to a well cut H.And yes, ame was referring to my halo comment. Sometimes the halo can take away from the center but in your case its not a factor. I dint like pave will affect it unless you are super color sensitive
Mine does also. It's very normal and it's proof that no diamond, no matter how ideal, looks 100% perfect and bright in all lighting situations. It's dark and firey sometimes, white and bright sometimes and bright and firey other times.Actually any idea cut stone can look "dark" in situations where there is fire..ie..direct sunlight. Mine does it. I didn't know why way back when and went on PS asking about it. Halo or no halo.
No, the halo wouldn't. The brightness of the melee in the halo because its returning the light differently than the center stone will make the main stone appear darker to the eye, even though it's not really.Whoops! I was wrong then. I thought she meant the Halo because I believe halos have a tendency to make the center darker. Guess both ways it is dark
Yes, this. It's not so much that it's actually going dark, it's more that the human eye cannot handle the amount of light return it's giving, so our pupils close down a little and it appears far darker than it really is.Well think of the videos showing scintillation or fire (can't remember which) that GOG does. The diamond is really dark. That's just what some (if not all..I don't know) ideal cut diamonds do in certain lights.
Yea there are a few that WILL do that, but not all do. My stone is not milky and I have seen very many VERY strong blue flour diamonds that did not do it either. It's a neat trait, but not everyone loves it. Ill have to see if I can snap some pics under a UV light sometime. I don't tan but I can try that in a tanning bed.My bf and I read online about what lec mentioned - diamonds with flouresence either look cloudy or milky! I am glad that it isn't that big of a deal. I love being schooled on diamonds on this forum, it's so informative! haha
Yes, this. I know that with my diamond band, when my main diamond goes dark and firey, the band is bright and firey. It's sometimes annoying. But I got used to it. I know there have been some posters on PS that have been so annoyed by that, that they changed their settings. Lynn was one of them.I think what ame meant was the center stone will react different than the melee in the halo. In some lighting the center might take on that dark appearance but the melee might not which in a sense makes the darkness of the center that much more obvious.
