Contessa - we love our furbabies! And we are DEFINITELY proud mommas :D

Lec - your Kimmy's coat is so thick and lush!! She has the sweeties doggie smile I have EVER seen! I love happy dogs!! Sometimes I feel Bailey can be a little dour LOL. But he's such a funny little dog. I agree that dogs really help calm me down - especially during stressful times in school!!!

Kohl omg he's so cute!! I love shih-tzu maltese mixes....and I love them individually too! Yay talking about dogs make the stress level go way down! hahah

Whoops- I would def get matching either white gold or platinum. If he doesn't want to bang his up..then maybe white gold would be better. If you have white gold jewelry already then you probably shouldnt be allergic to it? You guys placed the order for the setting to be white gold right?

Yup! Setting is set to be white gold. At the time we were more price conscience but now we think that it's not that badbs difference. However, for durability reasons and the ammount of exposed metal, white gold is maybe better. I think I'm just overly worryin as per usual. I think if white gold is more durable maybe that is the way to go for my bf too. But my brother in law had a white gold and he tore it up so now he has a tungsten which is another option we are considering. I actually suggested the Cartier to him too so when I get my bracelet it will match but he doesn't want me spending that much on him.

Omg! Loving the bee outfit shoes! You guys make me want my dog now but we have to wait.... So cute!

Just my two cents. It's very easy for me to make my white gold shiny. I have a jewelery paste of sorts and when I use it on my white gold it's as shiny as new and if there was any tinge of yellow showing, it's masked by the shine. I agree if you had diamonds on the band platinum might have been better, but for a plain shank, I vote WG.

Sk - what kind of paste? I'm preparing my area for my new enggement ring. Haha it's almost like having a nursery for a new baby. I'm going to look at the ultrasonic cleaners some time this weekend or shop around online for it.

I honestly don't remember the name of the paste. A jeweler gave it to me in a little tub. There isn't a label or anything. It gets dried out all the time and thats annoying. BUT I do have something else that works just as well. I cannot verify how safe this prodect really is. It's one of those where they don't list ingredients or anything. It just says Precious Metal Restoring. No Acid, ammonia or abrasives. Safe for gold, silver and platinum. It's like a runny cream. Stuff works AWESOME when your in a hurry. I will say don't use the cream on your whole ring. No matter what it says I would be afraid it would take the rhodium off. I just use it on the underside of my ring (palm side) rub a little one, wipe with a paper towel and rinse. Makes my metal amazing. I never use it on top, becaue I have never had the rhodium wear off the top of my rings before and I want to keep it that way. The spray honestly seems to keep my diamond cleaner longer.

I should add I only use the spray when I am in a hurry and the cream maybe once a month or less...just when it needs a shine. I have a really thick band though (it was 9mm) so it shows dullness and scratches more than a thin band would I think.

Hmmm Yea, I really need to go start tracking don some people that can help me plate the ring. The Tacori dealers locally here said that it's not going to void the warranty if they dip it and it's about $50 each time and takes roughly a day so it's not too bad. They said had I purchased it with them they would have dipped it for me for free but since I didn't I would need to ship it to Tacori to get the service for free. So, even if I do end up needing to dip it once every 1 or 2 years it's not overly expensive $50/year. The more I thought about it, you were right about the WG plain shanks staying shinier versus risking the platinum dulling on me. I think I could live with the slight yellowing it (may actually compliment my skin tone more since bright white can appear harsh sometimes against my pale asian skin, as long as it doesnt change the shine and white of the diamond) rather than having the dull patina of platinum. SO! thank you for easing my mind. And now that we have a cheaper wedding band in 18k white gold, bf is even telling me to just purchase the matching band if I want and we can eat the increase. But I'm not sure if i want matchy matchy. maybe from another collection.

it takes 10 minutes..tops...to rhodium plate a ring. ( it probably takes more like 3 minutes)
Also, in my experience, the costs jewlers charge varies widely. The place ame and I are at now charge $15 per ring (which is the cheapest I've heard recently) but I've been other places that have told me $90 to do my ring (because it's technically 3 together.)
Another thing, the rhodium wears off. It doesn't just go away everywhere. What I mean, is areas that don't have "wear" to them won't loose the rhodium. The whole head and prongs on mine has never needed to be rhodium plated, nor has the top by my channel set diamonds. Would it wear off eventually? I don't know, but I usually only had it replated every 2-3 years and it never showed wear during that time. The only reason I ever had it plated was the palm side that gets all the wear and tear. Honestly, it probably only takes the rhodium on me (I don't baby my hands or my ring) probably 3 months to wear off...but it's not obvious at all on my good white golds. And it has never "flaked off"..there is no obvious line between where it was and where it still is after a few years. I've always been able to shine the gold back up for special occasions or what not so that it wasn't even obvious. Really the only time I ever had it plated was if I was buying jewelry somewhere I would ask them if they could do me a favor and dip my ring for me while I waited to check out...hehehe...for free :-) That or if I was having it sized or something and usually the jeweler would include it in the price. I've only PAID for it..umm...well maybe I never have...lol.

I just called a local Tacori vendor and worked my magic a little bit and talked him into extending the warranty for the rhodium dip onto my engagement ring if we purchase our bands from him! so yay now I don't have to pay for it and I guess we are also going to be looking at the Tacori bands to match to get the service for free extended to the ering. hehe :D Even the bf is considering wanting a Tacori to match. We will be a fully white gold Tacori couple. Going this saturday. They also have my setting with pave so I can try that on in person too.

He actually took the opposite stance as you SK, he preferred platinum for the polished shank and white gold for the pave. :confused1: His reasoning was he prefers the worn patina to yellowing but he said he also has customers who try to buff platinum 5 times a year and that also will remove metal too. But if he will dip for free, then I don't see a problem. Also, I'm not so graceful and I think I'd scratch it faster than I would be able to yellow it. BUT YAY!

We are going saturday to see the setting and try it on with different bands. Might even order the bf's ring and then write down the style number of the bands I like so we can go back and try it again when my ring gets here. YAY!!!! wow. never thought i'd have a tacori set. but guess so!

Good job with working out that deal!!
A lot of people would agree to the platinum plain shank. I know some people love that "patina" look. I don't, but thats just because I'm into all things sparkly and shiny...lol.
While your there you could ask him if he has anything tacori that is unplated. He probably won't, but it would give you a chance to see it if he did.
I'm a big nerd..like a BIG science nerd. I had to know more about Rhodium plating and the science behind it and white gold, so I spent the day researching. Here is something interesting I learned. After the rhodium wears off, and depending on the grade of white gold, the reason we see yellow is because if the metal is scratched up, the light that bounces off the gold atoms travels to our eye faster than the light bouncing of the nickle alloys atoms. If the metal is kept polished and shiny though, the light does not travel in this manner and our eyes don't see the yellow. That explains why I have been able to mask any yellowing without having to go the rhodium route often..lol. It also explains why the palladium white gold stays whiter looking, because
Sorry for the nerd moment.
Now I'm off to research the science behind palladium vs nickle white gold..lol.

Lucky for the bf and I, his favorite color is yellow! So I think he might actually like the color. And don't worry about it! trust me! I actually am the biggest research nut, which is good because that's what I do for a living haha I've been researching white gold alloys and found it very interesting. I think Tacori said that the plating isn't the only thing that helps keep it white. Also white gold is harder so if I fall on my face, it wont scratch as bad. Less and less companies are using nickle, some may have traces but it's minimal. Nickle is already banned in Europe due to the allergies. Learning about the metals during this process has been really fun! I always thought that platinum was the way to go because it was better but I've learned a lot about why I shouldn't go the platinum route and the pros and cons of both. Even the jeweler said that for some it could be unnecessary and it's always down to personal preference.

I just feel so bad thinking of people who are allergic (supposedly 10-15% of the female population) and the poor bf who purchases a WG ring to see the gf break out due to it.
