Aww yea. I told my bf I'd put in for the ring if he wanted..... But that jumps the budget to like $15-16k hahahaha he isn't so happy with that but versus getting it after, I think he might be okay.... We are going to talk later.

He really wants the ring to be fully from him. But the supply of diamonds isnt letting it happen. So I told him we can find other ways, like me taking over more of the bills and such. Currently he pays a significant larger portion than I do so its not like I would be paying anywhere more than him.


Guess we both are in limbo for a while....

I think we're going to need to talk over it too. I'm starting to feel really bad though, since I feel like such a brat for wanting a 17k ring. So we'll see..I'm trying to not let this ruin me celebrating about getting the keys to house just yet lol.

I'm sure the both of us will find something that we love and are comfortable with...just wait and see what happens :)

OMG! SO MY BF AND I JUST HAD OUR TALK...

and we just put the reserve on this: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7761/

Somehow we jumped our budget for the diamond by almost 50% of intended :wtf: But we figured if we wait and buy the diamond and setting later we lose $1500 automatically.... so why not throw in the extra $2500 to it and then get a better stone! Also at this VS1 it should be eyeclean since it's a cloud and not a crystal. I dont care too much about the Canadian diamond part but why not! It was between this and the august vintage 1.29 F VS1. But the bf loves hearts and arrows.

We also decided that to make up for the difference in the stone that we would get the setting in white gold instead. Also making our wedding bands less because they will be in white gold too!

I'm going to call GOG in the morning and complete the order with the setting to hopefully make it to Tacori in time before the price increase! :smile1: Hopefully.

Ame & Skphoto: I would love to hear your opinions on the stone because I will be buying this and setting it sight-unseen. Any help would be great.

Here's what I would do:
Get the best stone you can and put it in a temporary mounting. Save for the setting and about 4 months before your wedding get the setting you are lusting for with the matching band. That gives you time to afford the setting (from whoever) and you get the biggest and best stone you can afford NOW before the increase. Put all of your budget to the stone.

I know you guys really want those tacori's but seriously, don't skimp on a good stone. Get a winner, get the setting later.

YES! AME Approved! :yahoo: I got so tired of searching I jumped all the criteria! No more playing with the VS2 and SI1 stress. Lets make it gorgeous and clean! Thank you so much for all the help through this process!

I just researched what that little candian maple leaf symbol means and supposedly the diamonds there typically (not always) come out cleaner so it takes away my worries that it wont be eye clean. Also, after taking all the classes i've had in social responsibility it's kind of nice to know.

We did have to pay a little more for it. But peace of mind for the rest of my life is priceless!

The only concern I have is the white gold setting instead of platinum, but I heard Tacori is pretty good with it and uses palladium alloys. I dont have allergies because my bracelets, earrings and right hand ring is all gold. My white gold earrings haven't yellowed and they were really cheap. Hope it works out. I put that extra money to the diamond.

Lec - Were you able to talk to your bf about your stones? I hope it all works out for you. This process was draining that my bf had to open a bottle of wine to celebrate it being over! I know you've been looking for far longer than I have too. Keep your head up! And you have a beautiful new house to furnish and decorate!

I tried selling this to the boyfriend!... he wasn't having it! I was so sad because I was thinking that he would be happy and I pushed for a plain band with the diamond and then forget the setting all together. But he has a STRONG attachment to the setting! Much MUCH more than me. He told me he would rather buy a crappy diamond and put into the setting and then switch it out later than the get the diamond and switch the setting. He is really sentimental and wants the actual ring of the e-ring to always be the original. Whereas I would rather switch the setting. SO the compromise ended up that we would get both but change the setting to white gold.

OMG! Whoops I'm so happy for you! That stone does look gorgeous! Congrats!

Well bf and I did talk and we both would be more comfortable with waiting until end of March..and if that stone is still there (doubt it :() then we'll get it and just deal with the price increase for the Tacori because he wants the Tacori too since he knows how much it "speaks" to me lol.

Diamond prices also expected to jump 5-10%.... :( soon. Which we probably cant afford.... Cause for the same budget we would lose a color or clarity. I think ame posted it a while back..... The tacori increase we could have maybe dealt with but then the diamond too was just too much. We thought to just throw it all in and get best rock which was the one we reserved. (that h vs2 was sloop tempting!!) but bf refuses to let me have a big rock for safety reasons. So he said e would rather max out quality on a smaller stone.... I don't think he realizes the halo will make it look bigger than a 1.5 even...

So hopefully you can get it by then. We kind of sucking it up and dipping into the wedding budget. Decided to just cut back on wedding and then put in ring.

Also, since your bf is considering financing, even going through a credit card he would still pay less in interest than waiting for the increase which is overall 10% for diamond and setting which knocks 10% off your budget making your 17k ring into a 18700 ring. When we actually sat down and calculated how much we pay now with interest free financing for a year on yhe card, even if we do not pay in a year, versus what we pay later without, we would pay less now and have a better rock and ring. I know not everyone will think this way though and they would stay in budget and upgrade later but I don't want to ever upgrade. And seeing as the bf is paying so much I guess he intends on keeping me! Lol

Hypothetically speaking this is if GOG does increase diamond prices and since the owner was the one who originally posted the article on another forum, I'm thinking he will soon because rough diamonds are more now. And even buying from inventory wont help then because they willbprice it at how mch it would cost to replace at that time.

The cost for rough is skyrocketing, which is why the cut stones are going up so much also.

If you're considering financing, I think charging it is worth it to do it now IF you find a stone you love.

Order is in! We were able to get it no problem... Eye clean and cant see anything top, side, front, back, upside down! Yay! Significantly feeling the impending squeeze on shopping and future purchases but wow! So glad the stress is over too! It's gorgeous and I can't wait to see it! I have a 1.25 true h and arrows canadian f vs1 diamond set into a tacori white gold halo setting (in avatar).... :yahoo:

Lec - if you do love and can't live without the one you found then do it but don't settle. I agree with ame on that! Lesson lived and learned, I kept trying for something that was so hard to find and I had to go safer and jumped the budget. I didnt settle and i know i have a diamond i can look at everyday and not obsess over black or "maybe"s. Also i asked Sarah about when gog will increase prices and they said it's not a set date when increase because they will follow market trends. But Cartier is going up, tacori going up, tiffanys went up.... I'm sure it's coming soon.... I hope you find the one you love!

Congrats whoops! PHEW, doesn't it feel great that it's over?? I was constantly stressing over my ring when it came time to purchase (I ran around to all the stores like a chicken with my head chopped off), and when it finally was done, I was very at ease but then also very anxious for weeks waiting for the resizing. . .but it's over now! Yay! So cute how you and your bf opened a bottle of wine to celebrate! :drinkup:

Yup' when we called to finalize the order, Sarah surprised on how far we increased our parameters on this! Haha but the bf is just glad it's over. He said it's not even about the cost so much as it's about him stopping the madness and search. GOG literally called every one of their suppliers and nothing in the 1.1-1.7 range showed up at all so it was us always going back to scratch. This way we are both happy with everything and yes boulder off the shoulders! Can't wait to get it. I was jumping up and down in disbelief then it hit me this is really happening and I panicked haha
