I have 2 weeks off and am spending part of it in dc. I wish that I had made more ambitious travel plans but at the time I was buying tickets I was too fried for that level of planning. And I thought I might have to help a friend with rent.

Right now I'm hoping to see a few friends and take it easy. I'll try to leave the country next time.

Poppy sounds like ash. :). I need to make a machine that can fling spare shoelaces.

It's been a rough year... Was in a car accident and healing has been up and down. But summer's here and I'm doing well enough to start hiking again. And we've got a trip to NYC to look forward to!

How are you guys and the sibs?

Oh Jenn, I am sorry to hear of your trouble but happy that you are mending. ( & that you did not, in fact, fall off TFoTE )
How is your lovely house and yard ?

MrStorm asks if you ever found your Minnehaha dreamcatcher earrings that he packed for you and Lu.

Oh no! :hugs:
I'm glad you are on the mend. Hope the furballs are being good to you as you recover.

Spring was a little bit tiring but the DH's migraine meds are finally working and my workplace is not so heinously understaffed. I'm trying to take as much time off this summer as I can. Mentally I'm already on vacation - reading lots of fluff.

Jenni - sooo wonderful to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the car accident! Did you have to take time off work? And glad to hear you are healing.

You haven't missed much sadly - I wish I could be here more often and I miss all of the hotties and the lovely chats and support we used to have. I've been working my ***off. hubby was unemployed for a year and thankfully might be starting work later in June. I have a full time job Monday to friday and it is a position with more responsibility. So I am barely ever coherent during the week. And am starting a new masters program in July. I'm almost 52. MUCH less $ to spend on bags. and MUCH less time to surf bag shopping sites. LESS time to paint and write....:tdown:

DS is moving to Dubai in July to be a chef at a new hotel. He'll be gone at least a year so I am going to miss him a lot. DD dyed all her hair purple and is doing video game design....

I've been thinking about 2-many. Haven't heard from her for awhile and hoping she is okay. and I miss LULU...

Jenni! I'm so sorry to hear about your car accident. Since you were already having back issues it couldn't (can't?) have helped. I know it's also hard to get stuff done in a new house while on the mend.

I cannot imagine a position with more work and responsibility than your last, Sally. Yowza! You must never have any free time. Dubai is so far away, but from what I hear very nice. Do you think you'll go and visit him? Game design is a fun, but tough field. Lots of pre-ship crunch time and post-ship lay-offs (depending on the type of game). Is she more interested in console, web, or mobile? There are some great studios up in Canada. I just met the head of a Vancouver studio a few weeks ago in an exec ed course, in talking to him, it sounds like there's a great community up there. All of the studios we work with are on the other side of Canada, so I can't say anything based on experience. My little brother is starting college in a few months and wants to be a game programmer. It worries me a little because I know how tough the industry can be on young/entry level workers, but I know he's going to have fun and enjoy his work.

I've been thinking about Lauri & Lu too (and Cho, Brenda, Angie, Nikki, and everyone else too!). I've been assuming that Lu's been busy with her fabulous intercontinental lifestyle, sports team worth of kids, house renovations, climbing mountains, building a nail polish empire, and just generally kicking ***.

I took the maniacs to visit a boarding facility today. My mom will not watch them while I'm on vacation, so I had to find somewhere to board them. Places in the city make me nervous so I found a place out in the valley. I'm a little nervous about the heat (it was 20 degrees hotter there than at my house today), but they have misters on the patios, a dog water park, and air conditioned houses that the dogs have access to. It is a little bit crazy. They have multiple houses on a large piece of land and have done it up really nice. They have bedrooms set up for the dogs to stay in and people sleep in there with them so they have 24 hour supervision. They have multiple play yards and the aforementioned "water park." The part I like the best is that they have layers and layers of fences and gates so my little Houdinis can't escape. It looks so nice that I don't think the girls are going to want to come home. I'm putting them in daycare there a couple days a week for the next 2 weeks to get them used to the place. They were there for 90 minutes today for an eval and did well. The crazy part is that with their multi-dog and extended stay discounts, this place is actually cheaper than most of the other ones I was looking at.

MT - I tried to dissuade her from the challenges of that industry but...I'm the mom so am consequently outdated and don't know what I'm talking about apparently. I'm just glad she's doing some kind of school so I have shut up and will let her struggle through...

Not sure if I'll go to Dubai yet...we'll see how it goes for a bit. Skype is good so maybe that will do it. I'm going to be super busy working and going to school so not much time for sure.

Wow Sally! I can't believe you are even more busy. Do take care of yourself. Dubai sounds like a great adventure for the DS and I'm excited that your daughter is working on games. I hope she likes it.

mt - that doggy facility looks fabulous. I bet they have a ball there.

I hope the other hotties we havent' ween in a while are doing well.

Hi Loves!!!!!

Missing you all. Everyone's lives have gotten so busy (not that they weren't before).

Jenni - Sorry to hear about your accident! :( Hope you are much better.

Sally - Game Design can be good, depending! I think if you start young with a lot of energy you can get yourself into a good spot with it. I ran out of energy about when I graduated LOL. My degree was in 3D animation though, so just a little different.

Big hugs and love all around!

I didn't mean to sound like a negative nelly. There's a lot of opportunity in the game industry. I'm just glad my team does strategic platforms that support our games rather than the games and that I'm not just starting out. I'm too old to work that hard. I guess I did work that hard back when I paid my dues though, I was just young enough that it didn't seem like a big deal :D

Hi All!! Mish, Chloe is looking SO grown up! And MT, the maniacs are adorable!! I've been wondering if they've totally bonded :) Moth, good to hear you're being able to get some reading time in... And Sally, goodness! Dubai?! MORE work?! Hope things get back on track soon!

Stormy, please tell Mr Stormy that they did indeed arrive safely with the cuffs! :flowers: and thank him! I can't remember if we posted pics of them or just the cuffs way back when. It's been so long... I've just been in occasional contact with Lu, mostly through FB, and I think she's doing well. Busy with work and Elevation Polish, for sure!

I'm pretty much back to where I was before the accident, thanks everyone! It was rough for awhile... My car was totaled. Full body MRIs, PT, facet joint injections (ask me how much I wanted to punch the doc who did those). Haven't replaced the car yet; still waiting on insurance to make up their minds. It was the other driver's fault, but her insurance said she wasn't covered at the time :wtf: so it's all on mine. But I'm back to hiking, with just the normal back/leg pain. In another month, I'll be back in to see if my new orthopedic guy suggests surgery. The MRIs revealed a lot of arthritis and bone spurs around the previously injured discs :(

It's so nice to "see" everyone! My skillz are rusty, and real camera is in need of some TLC, but I've got iPhone pics to post of my sample Botkier....

And I'm frantically trying to find shoes for our NYC trip!
