All these spring trips to France! Burgundy on a barge trip sounds delightful! Do you actually stay on the barge or just use it to get from town to town?

GM gang -
The barge trip is a combo of both. The biggest city/place we will visit is Dijon, followed by Beaune, and other small, wine villages along the Soane canal and smaller waterways. We dine mostly on the barge and will have one Michelin (3 stars!) rated dining experience on land. There's a van that follows us and takes us to our land excursion for the day. You have the option to join, or to just hang on the barge (read/fish/relax), or take one of the bikes and explore the area. It's really the epitome of the "slow movement" - both in food and travel. One sees so much more when the pace is not as frenetic!

sallyca - wow, two weeks....how fabulous. Will you be there when the sunflowers are in their full glory????

mt - sorry, I am of no help to you with this trip. Am a captive of the barge agenda....most willing, bien sur!

Oy! The TPF app hasn't worked on my phone in ages and I haven't been on the computer at night, sorry for my MIA-ness! I hope life is treating everyone well.

Congrats on your new shop, Faf! I love your idea and I'm hoping for your success.

MT - love your avatar with the two pups, they are so cute. Have you been to France before? I seem to remember you doing the car pick up in Europe before, I think that's such a fun and exciting thing. Do you have any favorite spots or were you going to try to find all new things?

Sally, I missed this when it was first posted. I'm planning on hitting of the South of France in June. I still haven't booked travel or even figured out itinerary. I just know I have to be in Munich for a day in mid-June to pick up a new car. The current plan involves driving down to the Cote d'Azur. What are you guys planning on seeing? Maybe I can cheat and steal ideas from you. For some reason I'm just not really excited about planning this at all.
MT - for sure you can steal ideas from us!!!! We're going to be staying in the Luberon area and taking day trips to avignon, arles, nimes, les baux, cassis and les calanques, aix, cotes du rhones and chateauneuf de pape wine regions. we are going to hit up the market days in many of the villages in the luberon. Anyhow that's the basic area we are staying in and touring around. Not sure if we will head further east along the coast....

Blam, this sounds perfect. The idea of a "slow movement" vacation makes me sigh... you'll take some pictures? At the very least, I want to hear all about it when you get back.I will be vacationing vicariously thorugh you-- no pressure, of course!

Avignon, Aix and Nimes are all such gorgeous towns. You're going to have a great time, I can tell!

I think we might do a stop over in Switzerland (Lucerne or Lausanne/Montreux). I know the Lake Geneva is gorgeous, but I think Lucerne might be a better distance from Munich for a stop over. Then I think Nice, Marsaille, and either Dijon or Lyon on the way up to Paris. Then over to London for a couple of days before we head home. Depending on the hotel situation we might stay in Monaco instead of Nice. I need to figure out what day trips make sense so I can nail down how many days in each spot and get hotels booked. My dad has a billion Marriott points and Interval Travel weeks, so I'm trying to use those.

My little Poppy was spayed this week. I don't think her pain med prescription is strong enough. If she's not crying she's growling and when I tried to look at her belly last night she busted my lips open and gave me a giant fat lip. Then she tried to snap at me while I was cleaning my blood off of her. I have a call into the vet to see if we can up the dose. She's kind of a psycho, a whiner, and a growler anyway, but this is way worse than normal. Poor little thing.

requesting fab pics if any of you all with the vacation plans are so inclined.

MT - Oh. I hope you get poppy fixed up and she's all ok. We had that happen with old mr cat when he got his teeth out. We hadn't given him enough and he had tears running down his face. I'll be she goes to sleep once you get her all fixed.

So I'm not the only one, then? Do you get a "parse error"? Something about the remote server sent an unknown response and the plug-in may be outdated? Then if you tap "ok" the "loading" wheel just spins and spins and spins ...

I hope everyone is well and having a happy early spring. It's still so chilly in NY.

So jealous of everyone's upcoming trips. I want to see pics too.

MT, I hope Poppy is all better soon!

Thanks for the pup love, guys. We're checking in with the vet in the morning because I don't like the way the incision looks and she's still being a little crazy. I think she's probably fine though.

I just booked my Euro road trip travel. We used up a ton of my dad's Marriott points to get free hotels. We're staying 2 nights here, 2 nights here, and 2 nights here or here. I need to book with real cash money for a night in Geneva or Montreux and a night in Lyon. I think we're going to get away with less than $400 for hotels, which is amazing since the ones in London and Paris are like double that per night during the time of our trip.

We're flying in to London and stopping over to visit with my friend who happens to be in London as well that day, then flying to Munich and picking up my car. Once we have the car we'll drive down to Lake Geneva and spend the night. From Geneva we'll head to Monaco for a few days and then up to Paris with a stop over in Lyon. I'll drop the car off in Paris. After a few days in Paris we're heading back to London for a few days and then back home. I need to decide if we should fly from Paris to London or take the train. I think I might book the Eurostar since the train stations are in the city, unlike the airports.

I didn't actually plan anything to do or see though. I have a few shops that I want to visit in France, but besides that nothing is planned. I think we're going to do some kind of boat excursion in Monaco and I'd like to take a detour to Nimes area on the way up to Lyon.

I think my credit card is going to melt. I booked the flights tonight and last night I paid for $4k in continuing ed classes. At least I'll get the money back for the continuing ed classes once I finish them (through tuition reimbursement at work), but I think I'll have a credit card cycle before then and I'm not going to like seeing the giant balance. At least I'm getting points :D, but I feel like they are so worthless right now. I have enough points for 2 round trip business class tickets LAX->LHR, but there are no flights available in any months I'd actually want to go.
