jenni, being canadian, i really like british english. our academic publishing firm is based out of the UK and our colleagues over there are super polite. it always cracks me up when someone says 'pants!' on a teleconference. i miss working for a non-profit but, i've grown to really like publishing. people are intelligent, thoughtful and curious. our lunch tables are littered with discarded the chronicle, harpers, new yorker.

monkeytail, i love how you take the time to think of really great handmade gifts. that's so special! hope you get to finish your projects in good time. is it the norm in your office to give everyone a lil something for the holidays? this is my first holiday at my new workplace and i am stumped. i'm used to giving gifts to direct reports and don't usually gift up... i must investigate and find out.

ETA... i just saw a picture of poppy. my heart melted. eee.

i'm halfway through holiday shopping thanks to online shopping and jet-lag. monster high dolls and accessories, space center playset, baby and bath toys, make-up brushes, flat iron, cashmere x 3, missoni x 3. looking for a good price for a tumi transponder carryon.

we got back from a two week vacation in hawaii this weekend. tired and depressed. we've gone every year since marriage and every year, we become more motivated to move there. this trip, we met quite a few people who have moved from the mainland. the boy can easily get a job there. i should have no problems either since everyone tells me i seem like an 'island girl.' at the airport, while waiting for the boy to get the rental car, locals were asking me if i was happy to back home. *sigh* one day...

Not everyone gives office gifts, but enough here do that it is kind of the norm, plus I'm an a-hole most of the time so it maybe balances it out a little. I gift my direct reports, all the other developers (most used to report to me), the VPS, the exec assistants, office manager, reception, our GM, finance, legal, team heads, and anyone I work closely with throughout the year. I usually also send gift baskets to the various teams we work with in NY, but since bonuses were small this year I'm cutting back.

i need to make some time to read back to see what everyone's been up to. i'm going today to my ob appt to see how the baby's doing at 18weeks and see if they can get a sneak peek at the sex. hehe! baby mib coming early May!

Congratulations MIB! Are the little ones excited to be getting a new brother or sister?

sacc - good to see you back here too. I hope you do get to move to Hawaii eventually. The getting a job and affording a place are the usual big hurdles. Some of my friends want to move back home but they wouldn't be able to get jobs very easily.

Trying again to finish up my Christmas shopping. I tired to opt out of the family gift exchange and do things only with my parents but that hasn't worked sadly.

Elevation restock tonight btw - 9 pm MN timehttp://localtimes.info/North_America/United_States/Minnesota/

forgot to stick in - the scary holiday decorations at my work building. Glad I am not afraid of clowns/jesters

Thanks ladies! My DD is really excited, and she'll be 8 when the baby is born so she's really excited to play mama. ;) As for DS, he's not happy to NOT be the baby any more. He's really not into babies either period, so he's not too thrilled. He loves blowing raspberries at my tummy and yelling to the baby... he/she will def will recognize his voice by the time he/she's born. lol I will have to do a lot of sibling rivalry stuff once the baby's born. I'm planning on doing one of those gifts to the kids from the baby stuff... hope it works! As for the nausea, it's tapered off, but still there so I hate the feeling. Otherwise it's really cool and freaky whenever I feel the baby moving. :)

Moth... the position of that clown... just really not flattering. lol

MiB - hope the nausea passes.

Eek I am totally going to be behind at Christmas. I think since the entire rest of my family on my mom's side did an Elfster exchange I might try to do something random. I was thinking of getting my mom to do a count of the people in the exchange minus her and dad and have her do a gift card drawing or yankee swap or something.

My also be job shopping soon. Lots of changes at work and few of them sound positive.

Boo-yeah!!! The Cumberbatch strikes again :faint:
I'm a bit bummed because I think that with the new three-part Hobbit movies, I don't think they'll actually get introduced to Smaug in this first one. Seems like it probably ends with the Eagles carrying them out of danger.

Adorable pic of the sibs, Moth!!

moth, hope you can find a good job soon. i'm not loving my situation here as well so we'll see what's going to happen after the baby's born.

pim, thank you!

i need some good thoughts my way right now. i got news that my 1st trimester genetics screening tests came back positive for chromosomal abnormalities so I have to go in to see the geneticist next tues and also do a detailed ultrasound with a doc to rule out anything. i don't know the real results yet so i don't want to stress too much. it's hard being an older mom esp because the health profession really try to scare you and the chances of all the things that can go wrong because of my "geriatric pregnancy". Geez... I'm not even 40 yet! My grandma and great aunt and cousin all had kids after they're 40, and had really healthy kids.

it'll be helpful to prepare in case it's something like spina bifida since the surgeons need to be there when the baby's born, but otherwise, it's just informational. i'll love my baby no matter how they come out.

i think it's my hormones... after today's shootings in connecticut, i've been a blubbering mess at work.
