Mib - hang in there. I think we were all blubbering messes yesterday. I had a computer meltdown/compromised email thingie that sucked up my entire day and was incredibly stressful but I would happily take 100 of those days if it could bring those children back.
There are lots of false positives in the early genetic screening test and the good news is that you will be getting more detailed information. Spina bifida is not usually detected on screening until the second trimester I think so that is not likely a possible problem at this point anyhow. Because of your age (and yes the officially obstetrical language uses words like "elderly" to describe older moms - which is crazy) they were more likely looking for Downs syndrome. This link gives a good description of the test and also the information about false positives. Even a positive result does not mean that the child will actually have a problem.

i need some good thoughts my way right now. i got news that my 1st trimester genetics screening tests came back positive for chromosomal abnormalities so I have to go in to see the geneticist next tues and also do a detailed ultrasound with a doc to rule out anything. i don't know the real results yet so i don't want to stress too much. it's hard being an older mom esp because the health profession really try to scare you and the chances of all the things that can go wrong because of my "geriatric pregnancy". Geez... I'm not even 40 yet! My grandma and great aunt and cousin all had kids after they're 40, and had really healthy kids.
it'll be helpful to prepare in case it's something like spina bifida since the surgeons need to be there when the baby's born, but otherwise, it's just informational. i'll love my baby no matter how they come out.

I'm excited about the new year though and have some good resolutions I'm hoping to stick to.
How are you all doing? I've been heartbroken over last week's tragedy and just not able to comprehend it or come to terms with it at all.

Thank you MB! Yes, we are still in Portland. We actually moved closer in and are now in the heart of the action. My landlord had wanted to raise the rent, and I figured if I was going to have to pay more, I might as well live where I can walk everywhere...

Yay. Glad you've found a place you like better. I spent my work bonus on a mini. We got it for games and I really like the size and weight of this one. It fits in lots of bags. Was totally happy that I got the cats to play with the cat game app.

Hi Hotties!! Missed you all!!! I'm glad I stopped by to see Chloe's pictures!!! She's sweet and beautiful as always! The picture with Santa is just perfect!! I'm glad things are going well for everybody. I've been busy applying for jobs, with school and the academy. I'm loving the academy though. We are getting a two week break, so I can breathe a little. It's the only time I'll have to study though, since in January I start two more classes at school. I'm also testing for two more cities, so I'll have to keep in shape and not have too much fun during the holidays. Our final PT for the academy is at the end of January too, so January will be extremely busy for me. Everything else is going well here! I miss you all! 
Merry Christmas HHotties! We had a great day yesterday hanging with friends and again today. Chlöe only opened a handful of presents and then we went to play with our friends. We are going to just open them whenever she feels like it over then next few days. Christmas eve, she told me that she was going to tell Santa all this stuff, and I figured I'd better take her for a visit. We got there and she didn't say a word! It was fun for her to see him again though.
