The elusive combination of syntax, diction, and tone that makes up someone's writing "voice" cannot be faked, and always rings true. I teach writing for a (not very lucrative) living, and while there are many things I will BS about, this isn't one of them. You will ALWAYS sound like yourself, no matter how hard you try to hide an accent, say.

And my best friend, who grew up in a hard place in Brooklyn, always says "if you see crazy coming, cross the street." And she's got a point.

That is all :D

(Sally...)

All the Thanksgiving talk sounds delicious! I'm kind of relieved that apparently we're just bringing booze to the gathering we are attending as I don't really have time or energy to make anything. I'm stuck in on this rainy weekend trying to kick this cold//flu thing.

You're STILL fighting that? :hugs:
Hopefully you'll have the energy to enjoy Thanksgiving!

We went to a faculty party last night... Everyone was so happy just to have an excuse toi walk away from grading. And tonight my lovely husband is taking me to sushi for dinner and then to see Skyfall!!:yahoo:

And for t'giving I'm in charge of gravy, roasted Brussels sprouts, and these two desserts. DH is doing corn chowder for lunch, and balsamic glazed carrots. In-laws are doing 25lb turkey, mashed potatoes, zwieback, cranberry relish, stuffing, and loads of wine. Yum.

That's so funny, NMR! That's almost exactly the recipe I decided to use. Maple syrup, olive oil, bacon, and shallots. I think I'll skip the nuts because so many other dishes we're making have nuts in them.

Those look delish!

Thanks MT, it was me, but I ended up finding a super cute little silver jacket and making her one....the things we do...I've also now made a Doc McStuffins costume....kill me now, I never thought I'd be "that mom"...

I might eat the choco fig today. Just found out that another member of our team is leaving- the one who in reality supervises me and tries to help me figure out how to make things run smoother. :P Ack. I suck at applying for jobs but I guess it should be resume time.

We do leftovers breakfast too and it is always a gloopy gravy covered mess, but so delicious.

I got thrown a curve on the turkey. I was expecting to just do a breast, but my BIL got a whole turkey from work. I think it should be the same but just take longer, but I guess I've gotta research it tonight.

As of tonight, I'm off work for 2.5 glorious weeks :yahoo:

:hugs: thanks Sally!
I just made the cake layers to freeze and cart over the mountains. Brown butter, spiced pumpkin cake sooooooo good :D topped with cream cheese frosting and a pecan and pepita caramel crumble.

But I've got a stack of grading that is filling my Cannes Tote. Busy weekend. And then only TWO weeks of classes left :faint:

Happy pig out day, Hotties! I'm thankful for such a great group of friends here with whom I can be silly and talk about purses lol!
