Ack Jenni - that is unfortunate. Do they have any plans to try and get accreditation?

I am a total cold weather wuss these days. We've finally switched over to our 50-40 degree weather and that has me shopping winter coats. :p

I'm not sure, Moth. Hope so, since 90% of the students who do have the dream of getting an MFA aren't making it into grad programs. But the problems run deeper and are university-wide. Sally, glad you're following your dream! As frustrated as my job makes me sometimes, I'm glad I followed mine to grad school, despite friends and family naysayers.

Moth, definitely go for full sized cupcakes! Especially if that means you can get more of a variety of flavors.

This little fat baby is coming home next week. I think Violette must sense something because she's being super clingy.

I've got a busy weekend of Thanksgiving prep lined up. I think we still need to figure out at least one veggie side. I'm in charge of the turkey this year -- it's being brined and smoked. I'm also making pumpkin bread pudding with spicy caramel sauce, spiced cranberry chutney, and baking cornbread and cubing and dehydrating it for stuffing. My mom is making green bean casserole (too gooey to count as a veg in my book) and baking a pie. I guess we need rolls or biscuits too. My niece is helping us on Wednesday. I don't know if she's going to be cooking/helping prep or playing with the new puppy though. She's very excited. I forgot, I'm also doing hot apps. I know that peppadews stuffed with goat cheese w/a balsamic glaze are on the menu (stolen from the Macaroni Grill menu :shame:), but I don't know what else -- maybe something figgy. I bet my niece will like filling the peppadews with the cheese. My mom being allergic to pork is a bummer because prosciutto and anything would probably be a good addition.

OMG MT!! I'm coming to your house for Thanksgiving; to eat and steal your puppy(ies)!!! The yum factor is so high I'm drooling massively! And the cute factor; well, there are no words!!

I think someone was looking for a Fresh Beats Band jacket a while back, maybe Piggy? I have a 20% code for this one http://shop.nick.com/Fresh-Beat-Band-Rockstar-Jacket/M/B007FF0F7G.htm I can PM the discount code -- I don't want to post it since it's off the employee discount intranet.

I don't think I want to deal with Thanksgiving, although I don't think it will be too bad since I'm doing a lot ahead of time, my niece is helping, and the turkey won't be taking up the over. But I'm totally excited to be out of the office for a few weeks. I've got a couple more days and then I'm out until December.

Lauri -- you're totally falling behind in your Izzy picture posting duties.

Oh yes! Would love to see Izzy photos.

Ack. I have to go through the trauma of finding the cats a new vet. The entire practice was sold and our vet is retiring. All of the old vets are gone and possibly a lot of the staff too.

What a sweet PUPPY!!! Violette will love her.

What about roasted Brussels sprouts? Toss w/ olive oil, s&p, and some slivered apples and almonds (I do mine w/bacon but for your mom...) and roast in a hot oven. Yum.

Yoji makes me want another puppy.

I was thinking maybe Brussels sprouts. I think I did a Brussels sprouts and cauliflower gratin last year and the kids loved it. It is, of course, much better when you flash fry the sprouts in a little bacon fat and steep bacon in the cream, but that doesn't work for my mom. My niece suggested carrots, but I think we might be having something yammy and that's too much orange. I talked to my niece last night and she's so excited to help cook.

The elusive combination of syntax, diction, and tone that makes up someone's writing "voice" cannot be faked, and always rings true. I teach writing for a (not very lucrative) living, and while there are many things I will BS about, this isn't one of them. You will ALWAYS sound like yourself, no matter how hard you try to hide an accent, say.

And my best friend, who grew up in a hard place in Brooklyn, always says "if you see crazy coming, cross the street." And she's got a point.

That is all :D

(Sally...)

That's so great that your niece is into helping! And yes, everything is better with bacon, but the Brussels sprouts can still be delish and easy in the oven. I think I've seen some recipes w balsamic vinegar that might echo the smoky bacon?

And I'm with you... There's always way too many goopy, creamy, cheesy, etc. sides. Dood. That's what GRAVY is for. Duh. Gimme some romaine and a vat of gravy and I'm happy :p
