I know it can be confusing with different leathers called similar names, but this thread is for Barenia Faubourg only.

For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

It smells like leather, but a different note, more vegetative or earthy to me. So you may not be wrong, you may just be experiencing the smell differently based on what your memories have references of. Your nose isn't broken, don't worry.

Can you ask your SA if it smells normal to them? I really like the smell of my barenia, and it smells really great to me, but it definitely smells different than my other leathers. My BF calvi is one of my favorite SLGs and it's 4 years old now and it doesn't have too much of a smell anymore after constant use.
For me I'm huge on the smell. I try to save it as long as I can. For some reason the leather on the inside of my Hermes boots smell AMAZING still, even though my feet have been in them a ton. I was hoping BF would smell so delicious that I could enjoy a bit of that in slg form... otherwise it loses a big chunk of its initial appeal for me if the smell isn't something I like. Maybe I'll get more into it after smelling it in its box for a few days.

Decided to keep! The smell lessened a little and I got more used to it after sniffing it once a day for a few days (absolute weirdo behavior but I wanted to know if I should return!) Pics of the bastia. Already a few light scratches, but I'm using it in my bag daily for my house key and thus decided ahead of time I'm not gonna worry about that stuff with this one. I like the feel of it and the sheen- my one H bag is clemence but weirdly extremely matte so I am enjoying the richness of this little piece.

You can always rub the scratches away! Over time, it'll develop a beautiful sheen/patina! I have scratches on my BF bag and calvi but it just all blends in together and I don't worry about it.

Hi everyone! Just got a BF pictoin 18. Scared to use her because of the patina. Will the handles darken as I carry the bag? Worried because of hand creams, natural oils and sunscreen on my arms if I carry it on the crook of my arm. Should I get twillies for both handles? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone! I just got a picotin, and curious if anyone with one can show me how theirs looks after some usage? I heard the handles can darken due to oil from hands and wondering what that looks like. Do you use Twillies on the handles to protect it? Or just let it be ? Did the lock leave a mark on the leather ? Thanks!! Do you find u have to baby the bag or are you rather care free with it? just new to this leather and want to care for it in the best possible way
Wondering the same thing! How are you liking yours?

I just purchased a dark brown barenia faubourg leather picotin 18 and now I am wondering if I should return it based on the reviews I'm hearing about how quickly it scratches. Considering it is a Picotin, I actually want to use it- alot and if it is going to scratch and look bad so quickly I think I may need to continue to hold out. I purchased this online which I already know is super hard to accomplish but I don't want to just have it sit in my closet... ugh please share your thoughts. Thanks!

it will scratch - its a characteristic of the leather, I dot think it looks bad. Not everyone enjoys the 'patina' you may be batter off with something like gold togo for a similar look minus the patina. Maybe one of the experts here can add their view point.

I have the same bag and it is super easy to use. Yes, it can scratch. You can just use your finger tips to rub out the scratches. BF does not patina the same way as Barenia. My Fauve B30 only developed a sheen over time. I put it side by side with a new one a few years ago and it is on this thread. The Ebene one does not show the sheen much.
The best part about BF is that it can get wet and you can rub out the scratches.

4 years old Kelly Ado and 3.5 years old Picotin 18.

And here are my 2018 Fauve BF bags today.

B30 - Around 6.5 years old. Some slouching. Has a sheen. No darkening anywhere. I have scratched it so many times and rubbing will take care of it. Its very first scratch was by the key right after I bought it at my store.

And mini Roulis. Purchased August 2018. No darkening either. The strap shows a bit of aging. I dropped sugary cocktail on it. That cleaned up fine with water. And then it was soaked in the rain when I was at an outdoor museum with my friend. It has the strongest Barenia smell of any of my BF and Barenia bags, despite being one of the oldest.

Edit to add: You do have to be a bit careful with oil around BF and Barenia. I just had a little grease spot on my Barenia bag’s handle when I took it to Waffle House (yes!). It kind of blended in and faded within a week. But pickier people might be bothered by it.
