Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

I used to have TONS of Dooney & Bourkes and it got to the point where I no long used them b/c I became a Coach fan, so I sold about 8 D&B's on eBay. I now only have 2 D&B's left and those are the 2 I use the most often. My Coach collection is small only 2 bags and about 5 wallets/cluthes. 1 Chanel which I could never ever part with.
I wish I would have used the D&B eBay money to buy a LV, but instead I used it to pay my bills b/c I was looking for a job at the time.

I don't regret it though.

Hi there! This sounds like it worked out well...congrats! I love it when thinning out one's collections turns out like this.

That’s exciting Lo! I do like that Boyy bag a lot too.

There was one small BV wallet in ebano today on Bluefly, plus I had an extra code, so I ended up getting it! Although I only plan to buy 1 bag this year, I have a few SLG needs/wants, and a small wallet was one of them. It’ll also tide me over (sort of) until I can make my big purchase, hopefully soon. I’m hoping to make it to Tyson’s this weekend to try on some things and see some colors in person before making my final decision. And, as always, I hope my sales pick up so I can actually pull the trigger! I might try to multi-task and list a few things tonight as I watch the Maryland – Duke game.
oooh!! I'd love to see the pic of the BV wallet! Congrats!

I found it. Why do you think it might be mislabeled? The size? I know this seller often buys discount from outlets and then resells on ebay. The scratches look small, but I don't know if conditioner would take them out... worst comes to worst, I've heard of girls using acrylic paint to touch up areas like that. Hmm... if the price is high, maybe sit it out for a while and see if it gets relisted? Considering the scratch, I doubt someone will pay that much if it was on sale for much less in December.

I couldn't find that Betty though... it's not the one with the chain strap is it?:sweatdrop:

I'm glad to hear that you've got the Edith on it's way! Maybe it will appease that Paraty hunger for a while?

Hey thithi,

You have totally earned your wings today, m'dear! :hugs: Thanks for injecting some sense into me with your comments!!!

My hunch was right - the bag was in fact mislabeled, and it is a brick red medium Paraty (the exact bag I am looking for). I asked the seller to check the official name on the tag and she told me that it was in fact a brick red bag. The scratch is very superficial - you can't even feel it when you run your finger over it, apparently - and can be buffed out.

I just can't get over the price, though - that is what's stopping me. That exact bag was on sale two months ago for just over $600 at several dept. stores. :wtf: It is authentic and rare, but I know that if I buy it, I will mess up my budget for a good long while, lol...

I shall pass on this round, then. If someone else wants to buy it, so be it. If it pops up again at a more reasonable price, then I will reconsider.

Wow. That was easier than I thought!!!!

PS: If the bag doesn't sell this run around, do you think it would be wacky for me to ask this seller to let me do layaway with her? (I have done this before on *bay).

PPS: Yes, I am insane.

PPPS: The Betty I am talking about is the chocolate Brown Betty Hobo that was listed last night. I have first dibs at a reasonable BIN price. It's NWT. The choco. leather is among Chloe's very best, and that bag is very HTF, esp. in new condition. :sweatdrop:

Woe is me...

Yepp. I guess it's nice to have a huge collection of bags ( I wouldn't mind having one again someday) but it's then tough to choose which bag to use lol.
Great thread. I like this!!!

You know, I often think that I would like to have a large collection, but when I have had one (at least by my standards - which means about 12-13 bags total), I haven't really enjoyed it. In fact, I have felt overwhelmed!!

(This is the kind of stuff that I need to remind myself of when I feel the urge to buy more bags that I can truly handle). :p

Glad you like the thread!!!

Okay, so I just got home from work and on the commute home I thought about the Paraty and the Betty Hobo...and I thought, and I thought... :sweatdrop:

I came to the following conclusion: I am not going to buy either bag.

(Don't reach for your glasses, people - you read that last line correctly).

The Paraty is under retail but knowing what I know about its actual market price makes me very reluctant to buy it. I am just not comfortable with the situation. So I will leave it be (I even deleted it from my watch list!) and let matters take their course. As for the Betty hobo, it is gorgeous, but dark brown bags don't generally work for me and I need to accept that. If it were gray or red, I would have bought it already, but it's not.

Thanks for letting me go on about this "out loud," everyone! :hugs:

I truly believe that if it were not for this thread I would have bought BOTH bags and felt horribly about it later on...it would just be repeating the same behavior that led me to start this thread in the first place.

Yay for you Lo!!! I had a feeling you'd come to that conclusion. If I don't feel like I'm getting a great deal, it tends to put me off a bag. I know I really, really love a bag if I can pay retail for it. Out of my rather large collection, I have exactly two bags I paid retail for, a LV Totally mono and a Prada fairy clutch. The price per wear on the LV has been incredible, that bag is my go-to work bag. And the Prada fairy, for which I paid slightly over retail, well that is art imo. I've never regretted either of those purchases.

Good self control. You don't want to find yourself in a situation later on when you need to purge the bags you are buying today.

Thanks, nyer - I actually thought about that - and the truth is among of the 3 bags (with one on the way) that I own now, there's not a single one that I wish to part with at this point. Your comment makes me feel better about my decision. :smile1:

Yeah - I actually WOULD probably pay retail (or close to it, at least) for the Brick Red Paraty if I had no other option (i.e., it never went on sale to my knowledge). But that fact that I am well aware of its going retail price in the very recent past makes me reluctant to accept the ick-bay deal. I hope that she drops the price!!!!!!! I would be willing to pay more than the sale price, obviously, but not 60-70% more.

I am kinda sorta proud of myself. :p

I'm really happy for you, Lo! I know that you wanted those bags really badly but I'm glad that you thought it out and decided against buying either of them. I hope that you find your NWT Medium Paraty in Brick for the sale price soon!

I can't begin to tell you how often I get buyer's remorse when I impulsively buy something especially if it's a good deal. I'm learning and I'm trying to educate myself before I make my purchases though.

that's great Lo! I used to do the same thing, just buy it cause it was there, without really thinking it through. There is a bbag that's on the bay for the second time that i've been wanting for a while, it's a really fair price and before this thread I would have just went ahead and bought it without really thinking it through. It's killing me that it's relisted but it is also maybe a bit too much like another color I have so I am holding off and really thinking about what color that would complete my collection better. It's hard but feels good not to be so impulsive. Plus I'm coming to the conclusion that something else always pops up down the line that I want more!

congrats on the willpower!:yahoo:

Great decision Lo!! I know it's hard to sit out an auction, but sometimes waiting pays off. I have seen this seller drop prices during relists, but not always. It's still worth a try! Now that I know what the sale price was, I think somewhere around the $1000 range would be the most I personally would consider buying. No more. I hope this one works out for you, it really is a gorgeous bag. If it's meant to be, it will happen!

You're lucky about the betty - I'm not a brown kinda girl and I refuse to add that color to my collection. I'm still hunting for a deal on the black chain betty, so unless that pops up at a steal, I'm not going to pull the trigger on any other Chloe bag.

redskater
, which bbag are you lusting for? You can tell me either style or color if you don't want the purse ninjas to strike. LOL. I'm still looking for something in outremer.... I've emailed Erica a ton of times and still no days, plus they're sold out on the website. I'm trying to avoid paying retail + tax... so if you know somewhere that has it for -tax, let me know! I wish Saks didn't get incorporated. boo. I even emailed Aloha Rag with no luck.
