Ahhhh.... I am looking at a Betty chain hobo... it has one chain strap, not the double leather straps. I had the medium Betty with the double straps a long time ago, and the straps didn't work for me. Too wide and wouldn't sit on the shoulder, kwim? But the chain strap hobo might actually work!

ITA about store SAs... I've been in the MJ boutique before and asked them about bags, and sometimes they don't know the color names or the bag names either. Once in a while you run into someone who knows their stuff, but it's very rare indeed. This discussion reminds me of Retail Hell, a book I read recently about a SA's experience in handbags. It was a funny book and interesting to read about the SAs perspective.

Ahhhh - I know which one you are looking at!! I was eyeing that, too - it's gorgeous...I lurve the Bettys with chains.

I would also love to find a medium Betty in a color like gray or patent bordeaux. And I'm gonna look up Retail Hell!

I remember a long time ago impressing the Kate Spade SA at the Georgetown boutique by knowing the style and shape name of all the bags I picked up. LOL!

I am selling off my stuff slowly but surely. We got hit by a big unexpected bill so all the selling really really helps all of a sudden!

Great that the selling is helpful! We got hit with some home stuff recently and it really put a cramp in my shopping style, so I can feel you on that one.

And remember the days when Kate Spade was really hot? I used to have one of the original little black bags and I though it was the coolest. Shortly after that, I got my first little LV and the rest is history.

lo, congrats on your new Edith! will she fit over your shoulder? you ought to read "Retail Hell" it's a quick read and very funny, and we can all relate in some way or another!

Hey redskater!:D Thanks! I will def. read Retail Hell, then -

As for the Edith, she doesn't fit over my shoulder. I broke my rule about no hand-held bags, and since this bag is so lightweight I don't think it will be an issue. Let's see what happens!!! If I don't use it, I will sell. This bag retains its value well and I got it for a true song so I am not terribly worried.

congrats lo! that is a great color! maybe i should take a look at chloe....

Thanks, thedseer!! Yes, you should take a look at Chloe - this style i particular is right up your alley, if you like the MAM. It is lighter, and very durable with excellent leather. It is no longer produced but on auction sites and in consignment shops. It also comes in two sizes: large (which is like luggage) and medium (which is what I bought and recommend).

I know that you like Mulberry as well - if it helps, I tend to think of Chloe's designs during the Phoebe Philo period (when the Edith, Betty, and Paddington were initially designed) as being very British like Mulberry, in that they are study and well constructed. However, the Philo designs are a bit naughtier than Mulberry's classics, if that makes any sense. I  this!

I just sold of several Coach bags and with part of my profit I am debating over the LV Neverfull in Damier Azur or the Speedy 30... I have the Neverfull in Mono and she is my everyday bag/tote/briefcase/laptop holder so I like the style...but 2 of the same...my DH is laughing himself silly over me...

Thanks so much, jc and Odeb!! I just conditioned and prepped the Edith to wear ASAP, and it is even more gorgeous...I am in lurve with the color. I think that I have finally found a brown-ish tones that works for me (it is very similar to RM tomato, but a tad less red). :yahoo:

It is also very light, esp. for a Chloe.

Congrats on your successful sales!!! You know, I think that it's definitely helpful to know when a certain style really works for you (in this case, the Neverfull). I always say that if it works, go for it - it's hard enough to find a bag that fulfills your needs as it is!

And the Damier Azur NF is beautiful - I love the Neverfull style myself.

The only thing that would make me say buy the Speedy is if you are in need of a more traditional everyday handbag that's not a tote. If not, I say then buy what you will use and enjoy most. :smile1:

I think if I end up getting a Chloe, that will be the style that would work best for me... but I managed to talk myself out of it, for which I'm glad. I decided that it's a bit too similar to my MJ Sid bag. In the meantime, I'd like to purge out another 5 bags but I'm having a hard time deciding... I've realized the smaller the collection gets, the more difficult it becomes to continue purging. But I've got to do it because I've got my eye on something!!

I've never seen a patent grey betty before... I had the bordeaux, and the combination with zippers and mixed hardware colors was stunning. I bet the grey would look amazing too!

This is very true...I had it in my mind to list a couple of bags last night...but when I got them out...I could not do it...I still like them...so now either I will wear them, or if I don't in a couple of months, they will go...it was a nice realization to come to that I actually love most of the bags I have now...
