I like the idea of the Kindle too, but because I read a couple of books a week I quit buying them and now use the library. I save $$$ and space. I'd get a Kindle because of the ease, being able to adjust the size and you could always have a new book to read, but for me that would get costly. I do think they will go down in price, electronics always do. Too bad you can't access the library with it!

thithi I saw the outremer day at Neiman''s on Friday. wow it is a stunning color, I hope you can get one. Don't settle for another color or style, It is gorgeous!

I have to admit that I am enjoying changing my signature wishlist on a daily basis...it's fun and a lot cheaper than actually buying any bags!!!! :p

(BTW, my friends and SO think that there is something wrong with me - they are borderline concerned about my bag buying lull, heh heh). :lawl:

ITA with the comments about this being a buyer's market, too, btw - I have never seen prices this low, or certain bags staying on ick-bay or the Bonz for so long. Despite that, buyers are still around - they just take longer and want a lower price in general. While this is sometimes frustrating as a seller, I have to admit that as a buyer I also want those good prices. It's about give and take, I guess.

In a few cases I have wanted to get rid of a bag so badly that I just sold it at a very low price to get it out of my sight!!!

I've been following the iPad but from what I've read, I think I'll wait for version 2.0. Also, the technology used to design the Kindle is quite specific for reading--very easy on the eyes--I can read for 2 hours without any issue and this is coming from someone who gets motionsick trying to read in a car. I just think a computer screen is more difficult to read over long periods of time, but that is just my preference. I also worry that the iPad's kind of big. I like being able to tuck a Kindle in my purse, and yes, that's a requirement for handbags for me now, too!

Lo--it is fun to just think about what you want rather than buying it sometimes, isn't it? If you actually have some time to consider which bags you like, you find that sometimes those preferences change before you make a buying decision and you just saved yourself some cash and hassle.

Great to hear that the Kindle is easy on the eyes! That is a major concern of mine.

And I got myself a little Valentine's present today. :graucho:

I put a red bag on layaway at Ann's Fabulous Finds!!! I have been looking at it for weeks now, requested extra pictures, did a lot of research, and finally took the plunge today after reviewing my expenses (yet again). It's a Chloe Edith - a nice size, and very durable. If I can swing it I will pay the balance early. I'll keep you all posted!!!

For a variety of reasons I am really loving Chloe's designs, even though I had never paid attention to them before. Several of the classic bags remind me a great deal of the sturdiness of Mulberry, but just a bit more overtly feminine, if that makes any sense.

redskater - that's great you use the library to read the books you want! i wish i lived near the good library (the one near me is not that great) because i would be so much more disciplined about it! i buy way less books now, probably because i have so many and since discovering paperbackswap.com, I have instead traded for books i want!

Lo - I too have lowered a price on a bag lower than I should have just because I wanted it out. After the initial annoyance with myself, I am generally happy it is out of the house anyway! Great on the red bag on layaway! It's one you've been looking for, right? Whoa, I saw the dramatic change in your wishlist! Did I miss the boat on how Chloe now has your utter affections?

TM - yes I agree with waiting for 2.0 iPad, mostly because the first gen Apple stuff always has bugs in it, and we are waiting to see if the price goes down. For now, I'll be using my kindle on iPhone to tote around ebooks...

^ I hope paperbackswap works for you! i love the trading websites, it costs for shipping but it helps clear out my library and also allows me to find books i want for cheap. and it's good to know that it's going to someone who actually wants to read it.

congrats on the edith Lo!! I'm not familiar with the style, but i'm sure it will be fabulous. post pics for us when you get it!!

redskater, thanks for checking out the outremer in person.... i saw one when i was at barney's a while back, and it's really a stunning bag. the color pops so well! i'm definitely saving up for it now, although buying any bag in general is on the burner for now... i have travel/vacation expenses that i need to pay for soon. also, i like the idea of the ipad, but i think the kindle will be a better fit for me. i can't wait until the prices drop!!

Ok. I've had to adjust my purge a bit. I am now "trading" for items instead of just buying new items without getting rid of anything. I think it's a good step? I wasn't having a lot of luck selling my items for fair prices. While I understand that some people will not pay the same price I pay for many items, I've already priced things really low and definitely not the prices I paid or even close to retail. Any lower and I might as well just donate (but I really want the funds right now...).

So...now I am getting a new bag (I suck) BUT I am doing a partial trade, so I am getting rid of something else + paying cash to get it, which isn't SO bad, I guess? I'm just trying to rationalize my inability to purge...

So, I have been reading this thread from the beginning (LOVE it Lo!) and would like to ask for some advice from everyone here. I have 6 bags and 5 clutches that I love and use alot and 4 everyday bags that I like but can live without. I would like to declutter my very small closet. Problem is that I cannot take/post pics and don't really want to deal with learning how to sell online. I know it isn't money smart to donate the bags but I figured this way I would be done with the process in a matter of minutes :) and someone else would benefit a bit. Someone mentioned dress for success on this thread (I think it was this thread) but I do not have a drop off site near me, does anyone have an idea of what would be the best thing to do?

Hi Kimmi!!! :D I think that what you are doing is fantastic - donating is a wonderful option - I like to do it too as well. I would suggest checking out other organizations, like Hospice, that have resale shops and accept donations. They will also give you a receipt that you can save for a tax deduction. ;) I like to donate to the one near my house, personally, because my mother used to work for hospice and my grandmother also benefitted from the work that they do. You might also want to contact your local United Way and see if they can help direct you to an appropriate local charity.

Another idea is an online consignment store - have you ever looked at Ann's Fabulous Finds? It is a wonderful business, and well worth a look. You can ship your items to them and then just sit back and relax until they sell!

LOL, yep, mayajuliana, my list changes a lot - and then I get hooked on a bag (sometimes one that is not even on the list) and I think about it for weeks/months, research it to death, ask around, until I decide to go for it. The price was absolutely right on the red Edith, and I have looked at that bag so much and couldn't fall out of love with it...let's hope it works out!!!

And the Chloe thing is kind of odd - I had never paid attention to their bags (just as I had never paid attention to YSL) until very recently. To me, classic Chloe bags are a combination of durability and feminine details - but nothing too girly (that wouldn't work for me or my lifestyle). I can't believe it took me this long to find YSL and Chloe, because they are both an excellent fit.

Hey sexycombover!!! (I so love your ID). ;)

I think that all you can do is try your best to sell and no more. Trading is a great alternative!!! Anything that means you are moving in the direction of a collection that better fits your needs is an improvement, in my book.

Why have stuff sitting around that you don't use? Sure, it would be great to get cash for it, but trading and donating works as well. And buying a bew bag doesn't mean you suck, lol - I have bought one recently, and just put another one on layaway yesterday. To me, it's all part of the process of moving towards a more thoughtful handbag collection. I think that you are def. on the right track!

Lo-you will love the Edith! I have 2 and they have lasted for years! The leather is so thick and durable! I am not sure about how many sizes they come in, but I have a smaller one in Red and a larger one in Purple!

How long is the strap drop on yours?

Now I am up to 22 bags sold! Of course I have bought a few too:p I have 8 up for sale and am contemplating adding a few more! For me it has to be 3 to 4 out for one in!
