Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

Thanks for the input, LR! And I am also intrigued by the Belly - I love the shape...and it does come in red...muahahahahaha....

There was one left on Bluefly last time I looked, but I can't swing it right now. Oh well!

I am a lover of big bags but the Maxi was just too big for me for everyday use. It would make a good travel bag, IMO. I don't know, some ladies love it but it's pretty darn big for a daily bag

The BV Belly is a great bag that is between the Large Veneta and Maxi Veneta size. I love the belly.

I have to disagree about the maxi veneta. It's my favorite everyday bag and when it slouches it's not so large at all.

I've seen lots of Fever IRL and it is a very bright orange red. Think traffic cone. Some women love it, though!

i have not purged my collection for ages and dont plan 2 but im sorta content with my bags ATM, i only have a small collection but thats the way i like it. i want to get good use out of my bags and the more bags i have the less use i can get out of them. When i got my first LV i thought i only "needed" one but then i found my LV HG and after getting it and a few more i start looking at the new bags and ask myself how much more i like the new bags but to be honest i dont like them any more than the ones i already have. i may get one now and again but i dont feel like i need to "stalk" a bag until i get it KWIM??? im very lucky to even have one $$$$ bag and i do work hard to buy them but now i just want to enjoy them and stop buying for a bit.

Also all the threads about quality issues with $$$$ bags is helping me slow the spending and enjoy the quality products i have KWIM???

ITA on all points! thanks for posting.

Somebody made a point in another thread--forgive me as I don't remember who it was--that sometimes people get really fixated on something (in this case, bags) because there is something else that is lacking in their life. There is no challenge or other passion driving them and this behavior can serve as a coping mechanism to get through that period. It makes a lot of sense. It can be a distraction at times, and then when the crisis or event is over, one is left with all these extra bags, some sense of guilt and frustration and the cycle continues. Just food for thought.

I read an article YEARS ago about a woman who had a nephew who loved his Hot Wheels. He had only a few but he played with them all the time. She became fixated on getting him more and more and then he stopped playing with them. She asked him why and he replied, "I just don't know how to love so many cars." Pretty smart for an 8 year old, I think.

Wise, indeed!

I remember seeing a de-cluttering show where this woman had saved ALL the clothing from her children's childhood, no matter what it was or how badly it was stained!

The Organizer Person forced her to let go of all but 3 very special outfits for each child. She said, "When you only have one or two, it's more special." I've taken that advice in many areas of my life. It's saved me a lot of grief.

Wow - excellent posts, TejasMama and ecmf!!!

Wonderful food for thought. I am truly trying to work this approach into my life, and it makes me far happier. I would rather own less but have it mean more. Compiling a huge collection of anything is pretty stressful!!! (And that's against the point in the first place, no?)

Great tidbits everyone!

I've done WAY too much thinking about my collection and I think I'm finally at a point where I can see myself getting down to 10-15. I wrote down a list of my essential colors and figured that I can keep one satchel and one hobo at most in each color. The colors are:

Black
Grey
Dark Brown
Light Brown
Blue
Wine/Burgundy
Red
Purple

This conveniently equals 16 bags. I don't use brown or red bags too often so I can live with one bag in each of those colors. Then I went through my collection and wrote down my faves for each color. Now I'm down to a list of basically my HG's and the rest can go. There are still a few on the sell list that I'm going to have a hard to letting go of, but at least it's a start! I've already sold 5-6 in the last few weeks and I have to admit that it feels really good. I love seeing that extra closet space and I know I'm getting closer to my goal.

jc, you ROCK!!!! :hugs:

I think that your plan sounds very reasonable - and you will see that having a smaller (yet still very well rounded) collection makes you less stressed.

That said, if you question your new direction or feel like it's not working for you/you want to try something else, we are here to help!!!
